How come, whenever they did a shot of any two people getting into a
car....they both always got in through one side....instead of going to
their individual door. What causes that?

Hi Kirk
Could it have possibly been when Gomer says "Judy Judy Judy"? Maybe you got
it mixed up with the hoot owl impression, I've done that before. Hope to
have helped.

Subject: Rain

Howdy!

I recall that a while back we discussed the fact that it hardly ever rained
in Mayberry. It seems that we could only come up with two occasions:
"Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" (where we saw the flash of lightning and heard the
thunder), and "A Black Day for Mayberry" (where it rained when the crowd
was gathered for the arrival of the 'secret' gold truck!

Well, those were all the 'rain filled episodes' that I could think of too,
but I was surprised to see episode #183 - "The Gypsies" - the other day,
and the drought-busting rain storm featured in the show that I had clean
forgotten about!

That Jamie Farr sure makes a convincing looking Gypsie!

This message is a salute and an elderberry wine toast to Allan Newsome, our
belov-id Floyd!

Now, I ain't gonna quote your whole post there, Harriett, but all I gotta
say to your post is, "HEAR, HEAR". (I always wanted to say that. LOL)
You got it exactly right. I think I for one, take all that Allan does for
granted sometimes. He not only takes care of TAGSRWC, WBMUTBB, and a number
of other sites, he also does my site, "Them Timers are Tricky" for me, since
I still ain't got the hang of uploading stuff to it, and Martha and I really
do appreciate everything he does. He really deserves a metal for all the
hard work he does for everyone. Just a short 3 years ago when I first got
on line looking for TAGS sites, WBMUTBB was the only one. NOW look at
it....and Allan is the one to thank for a LOT of em. THANKS ALLAN

Now don't get carried away there, Aunt Bee. I haven't really bowed and I'll
still be watching as close as ever. Rule #2 is still alive and well and I'll
still be there in forcing it.

Rule #2 is VERY important and it's kept our little corner of Mayberry a fun
place to visit for a long time. I don't plan to abandon it so folks...just
act like somebody and I'll be a little more careful about the enforcing of
this rule.

And of course, remember Rule #1 (Obey all rules) and I'm sure things will go
well here in town.

About Like TV:
I work in an elementary school. Fortunately for me, I have been blessed
with an iBook and the school is networked with T-1 connections. Most of the
time, I can watch Like TV and it's virtually like watching a video tape.
But even with that high-speed setup occasionally the picture gets jerky and
sometimes stops altogether. At home, all I get is a slide show.

"Anybody here know why these two should not be wed, speak now or forever
hold your peace." - Andy Taylor

I love that line. It's the first one spoken in "The New Housekeeper", the
very first episode of our favorite show. That single line of dialog led to
so many more lines, and episodes, and memories.

I also love that line because it's sure to be spoken by the one who
performs the wedding that I'll be sharing with Stacey Woods, a WBMUTBB
member and the woman I love. We met right here in WBMUTBB, in Sarah's chat
room. And we'll be getting married shortly before Mayberry Days this year,
in fact, spending part of our honeymoon at that annual festival
celebrating "The Andy Griffith Show" and all things Mayberry.

I just wanted to share the good news with all our fellow WBMUTBB members,
and ask for your prayers and support. Stacey and I look forward to making
many memories of our own together in the years to come.

I'll see ya.

Subject: Another "Ernest T"

I had previously sent in a message about our small town's Ernest T-type
character. In talking to Laura Lee Hobbs about her "three Ernest T's," I
described another interesting individual (this one a female) that I knew
many moons ago. Laura Lee urged me to share it with the rest of you
folks, so here goes.

When LLH mentioned about the three brothers wearing several layers of
clothing, I was reminded of a woman I knew when I was a kid. She was the
grandmother of a classmate of mine (though she was more like her mother
because she raised my friend and her brother). She was a nice person but
had some definite eccentricities. She, too, always seemed to be wearing
several layers of clothing, none of which matched or complemented each
other in any way. I don't recall ever seeing her in anything but a dress
or skirt, and she always wore kneesocks -- colorful and gaudy ones -- and
often more than one pair at a time. She also usually wore a hat or cap,
something mannish looking. She and her husband spoiled my friend by
giving her everything she wanted (candy, records, etc.). And yet, they
lived in a little run-down house back in the woods that didn't even have
a bathroom or running water! (I still vividly recall the first time I
spent the night with my friend and was introduced to the chamber pot
under her bed.) The inside of the house always was cluttered and didn't
give a very clean appearance. I don't remember any decor -- nothing to
make the place look homey or inviting. I guess this woman paid about as
much attention to her home's appearance as to her own! They later moved
into a nearby house that sat out on the road (as opposed to back in the
woods)and, I think, even had running water. The area where they lived
goes by a name (I don't know if it was ever officially a town), but it's
way off the beaten path and is actually only a stop sign where two
country roads cross.

Interestingly, in her adult years, my friend seemed to achieve a much
greater measure of worldly success than her grandparents enjoyed. She
and her husband built a big, beautiful house -- out in the boonies just
down the road from where she was raised!

One thing that always strikes me as I see/listen to that part is that

Subject: George Lindsey Appearance

Hey friends,

Just wanted to drop you a note about an event that is happening on September
7, 2000 in Clanton, Alabama. It is called A Touch of Mayberry and it will
star George Lindsey our own Goober in a performance for the P.E.E.C.H.
(Partners Enhancing Education in Chilton County). I am fortunate to have
been asked to be in attendance to do my Mayberry Deputy character and create
a mayberry feeling before George performs.

Just some background for your information. PEECH has given over $125,000 in
grants to teachers/classes the last four years. Buying a ticket to the
event will go to support and secure grants for 2001.

The event is Thursday September 7, 2000 at Chilton County High School in
Clanton, Alabama.

General Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Doors will open
at 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. show.

Directions to CCHS: Take exit 205 from I-65, go 2 miles north on RT. 31
just south of Clanton. The school is just past the Wal-Mart on the right.

Information was supplied to me from:

Dr. Larry Michael, President
Chilton Education Foundation

You may reach him at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or contact me and I will try to give
you more info.

Hope some of you can come as this is going to be a fun evening of fun and
laughter supplied by good ole Goober!

Many thanks,

David Browning
The Mayberry Deputy
