*"Morelli's was the restaurant where you could see them pounding the
steaks! Martinelli's was featured in one of my all-time favorite movies,
Parent Trap (the original with Hayley Mills)."

True, Martinelli's was the romantic Italian restaurant re-created by
those loveable twins, Haley Mills and Haley Mills....but Martinelli's was
also on TAGS. I remember something about Martinelli's meat market, but I
don't remember which episode. (By the way, Parent Trap-the original-is also
one of my favorites. Just one more thing we have in common, Aunt Bee. ;)

Didn't we get to see Andy kiss Helen in the episode where they try to get
Goober a girlfriend.

Remember the funny scene on the front porch where Barn and Goob are watching
Andy and Helen. This is one of my favorite funny scenes of all time. I
just roll on the floor everytime Goober starts to shout "they're doing it
Barn, they're doing it".

Lots of luck to you and yours,

Subject: Andy, Everybody's Best Friend

This morning, while watching the episode "Otis the Deputy" on video,
something occurred to me. In that episode, Otis calls Andy his best
friend, even though Andy seems to regard Otis as more of a nuisance. I
recall that in the episode where Howard and Millie are going to get
married, they choose Andy and Helen to be best man and maid of honor
because they consider them their best friends. I just got to thinking
that in the post-Barney era of TAGS, many of the characters seemed to
think of Andy as their best friend. Yet, Andy doesn't seem to have the
same depth of attachment to these other characters. Other people seek
him out, confide in him, ask his advice, etc., but Andy doesn't seem to
do this in return. He is the most popular guy in town, and he's
everybody's best friend, but no one is HIS best friend. After Don Knotts
left the show, it seems there was no one else who was truly Andy's peer,
no one that he related to on an equal level (I'm not counting his family
or Helen).

Am I way out in left field, or do the rest of you feel the same way? I'd
like to hear some comments on this.

Under the bucket again,
Janet

I LOVE the scene in which Andy goes to Orville Hendrick's farm to talk
to him about his "relationship" with Bee. Did you ever see the actor
who played Hendricks appear in another episode or another sit com?

He does appear in another episode - a color episode - the one where
Andy is trying to raise funds for the new organ at church. He plays the
man who has the second hand organ.

Hello, This is my first time to write you all, but it's been "prayin on my
mind" !!!! I was reading my wbmutbb digest and I remember several times when
Andy kissed someone. The Christmas episode has Andy kissin Ellie at the very
end of the show when they say goodnight. Also Mary the county nurse (who is
trying to get Rafe Hollister to get his shot) kisses Andy on the jaw. Does
that count?? Another episode that may have a little kissin is where Ellie
and Andy are caught in the dark at Ellies house when the power goes off.
When it comes back on there is Barney right next to both of them instead of
Thelma Lou. Does anyone else out there have any other possibilities!!!! I
sure do love Mayberry and good luck to you and yours!!

Just wanted to give a thumbs-up to new member Rob McGowan's web site that
has panoramic photos of the exterior and interior of Andy Griffith's Mt.
Airy home place. Since he didn't explicitly give an address for the
site, some of you may have overlooked his message and missed out. Here's
the link to go directly to that page:
http://www.riverimage.net/mayberry/andyshomeplace/panoramic_tours/index.h
tm Be sure to click on the appropriate spots to get the panoramic photos
to pop up. They are true 360-degree panoramas -- very interesting!
Especially note how tiny Andy's bedroom was!

Thanks, Rob, for letting us know about your site, and welcome to WBMUTBB!

I must say that I'm "busier than a cows' tail during fly season" in getting
all 72 hours of TAGS recorded without missing ' a lick '! Does anyone know
if a listing is available of all the episodes being aired during this
wonderful event? I have tried several times to go into 'tvland.com' and to
try to get into the tv listings for TVLAND but have not been successful.
Would appreciate kindly any response to my request.

lots o' luck to you and yours,

I think Mr. Schwump was also an extra in one of the "fun Girls"
episodes. When Goober and Gomer are sitting at the table with the "fun
Girls" I do beleive I saw the distant image of Schwumps sitting at a
table behind them...talking to some lady.

Also.....in my recent inquiry into "who owns the market" Foley...or
Martinelli....I got the name Martinelli from the episode in which Andy
has to get out of town for a few days...'casue things are just too much
in Mayberry....before he gets ready to go....Aunt Bee gets a call from
one of her friends that is upset becasue Gomer gave her a ticket for
parking in front of the market. "The voters approved it....so Mr.
Martinelli can sweep out his market."

Aunt Bee.....I'm on vacation!"

Not sure where he left his car. Maybe Gomer was supposed to work on it
while O'Malley was up here in Dee-troit and Gome's car fixin' ability
went out on him again. In Charlie's situation, had I been in a rush to
get home, I'd arrange for a ride with Gilly Walker, that's what I'd do.

No, she's still Clara Edwards in Mayberry RFD (well, I suppose she could
have married a man named Edwards).

In "The Pickle Story" she says, "when Mr. Johnson was alive...", so
obviously Johnson was her married name. Apparently a few years after his
death, she went back to using her maiden name, Edwards.

I've also wondered why a rich guy like that didn't have running water
in his house. Perhaps it was a summer or weekend getaway house, but
that's not the impression I got. Chuck, what's the story?

Howdy agin, to ye and yern, (fer those new to us I use ye every now and then
to keep from the repetition of yall's)....the fatman here, missed ya over at
Wally's the other day, had that nectarine crush, and by golly Floyd was
right, it was gooooood, too! On kissin, I do remember the story of Romeo and
Juliet where Andy was tellin about getting kissed "right square on the
mouth"...and DID kiss Miss Ellie (where by the way he also referred to her as
"Elinore"..when the new Doc came to town and he had to "declare" for her and
told her he "thought the world and all of you" and kissed her on the
forehead. Also, if ya remember, he kissed Helen (whilst Barny and Gomer
watched)....right there, thats THE couch...., letsee...oh, yes, one
more...off the top of my head...Andy & Helens blind date, at the end in the
back of the squad car, remember where Andy made it a long kiss too cause
Barny and Thelmer lou (were sure gonna have it out when they got finished).
Barny is such a hoot! Well, the fatman's wife has the Johnnycake and coffee
ready, so yall be good and act like sombody.....

Andy really planted one on Sharon DeSpain in the "Class Reunion" episode
(season 3). 'Course, then they went their separate ways.

I can picture in my mind's eye Andy kissing Helen, but I can't put it in the
context of a particular episode. Of course, Cassanova Barney has been known
to give Thelma Lou quite a smackeroo, such as in "Farmer Takes a Wife" and
others.

I do believe Mr. hendricks gave up the butter and egg business and went into
being a organ salesman.
if you remember, this was a colored episode. the old organ was going bad. ms
Clara could not even play thru a whole hymn.this is also the episode that
Floyd, goober and the rest of the gang pledge money to buy the organ, then
they all had a change of heart. but,in the end it turned out for everybody.
