Just last night Andy gave Helen a great big kiss, right square on the lips. In episode 163, Andy is jealous of a visiting teacher working with Helen at the school. Andy and Helen get into a fight, and in order to quiet her down (and admit he was wrong) he plants 3 of them right on her mouth. I know this has been brought up before, but does anyone know where I can find a map of the town of Mayberry's layout online? I found the county map, but I'm more interested in the placement of buildings (courthouse, diner, filling station, etc.). I noticed something on an episode Saturday and I wanted to see if the map agreed with what I learned. If I'm right, I'll tell everyone (for your under-the-bucket times). By the way, just a bit of Internet Etiquette (as taught by Mrs. Wiley), ALL CAPS IS SHOUTING! Please don't do that anymore, I already had a headache when I started reading this past weekend's digests. Besides, people quit reading all caps after three or four words because it's just too difficult. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 09:36:56 -0700 (PDT) From: Darryl Banks <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #305 kissing I've got one...... In "The Pickle Story" she says, "when Mr. Johnson was alive...", so obviously Johnson was her married name. Apparently a few years after his death, she went back to using her maiden name, Edwards. So where does Bertha fit in? Was it her middle name?(I think it was Bert= ha Johnson)Aunt Bee called her that in the episode where Andy and Opie were rotten housekeepers and she cleaned their house before Aunt Bee got back = from taking care of the relative with the versitis. I think I do enjoy the shows more since I started reading this digest. There are so many little details that I have been made aware of that make viewing more interesting. It's like taking a college course in critical viewing. And another thing about that episode......One of the convicts was cooking burgers. Sally is disappointed because she is "making them all rare, " when she remembers Al likes his burgers hard." My question......how did she know she was making them rare? I mean rare comes before well done...and she was till cookin' 'em! There were no burgers on any plate that I could see. Oh well......."Better watch that Al!" I love the epilogue in that episode....Barney indicates that Floyd was "really no help at all in a situation like that." I mean...only a trained law man is aware of what really needs to be done.....then the paper arrives...and the headline reads....'LOCAL BARBER CAPTURES CONVICTS!" A CLASSIC! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Sep 2000 08:33:26 CDT From: "DEBORAH DUBOSE" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Spirit of Mayberry Hello, Everybody! To me, the spirit of Mayberry is best reflected in the way Gomer reacted to Mary Grace. His willingness to accept her by getting to know what was on the inside, rather than forming a view by what he saw on the outside, is a lesson this world says it is ready to embrace, but sadly presents little evidence of holding it near. I adore this show. It speaks to those of us who went through a period when we felt unbeautiful or unwanted, and allowed us to feel that somewhere there would be a Gomer who could really appreciate our inner beauty and see the kindness that more than made up for the beauty the other boys failed to notice. And I imagine shy boys could appreciate a Mary Grace who would see them for the wonderful person they were and not just some dumb guy the way others saw them. Until then, no one had taken the time to really get to know Gomer. They saw him as a not too bright boy working and living at Wally's filling station. That's why they were so aghast when he got up to leave after meeting Mary Grace. They didn't even give him the benefit of the doubt, even though Andy knew how much he had invested in this date. But our Gomer was a real Prince of a fellow! The most romantic line I have ever heard in my life has to be, "It wouldn't be right, Mary Grace, for you to go to the dance unadorned." You can take your "Here's looking at you, kid," and "Love means never having to say you're sorry," (which I don't believe anyway), and all the other lines uttered by all the handsome movie stars to all those beautiful women while violins played and cool breezes blew and absolutely none of them compares with a sweet boy telling his real nice girl, "It wouldn't be right for you to go to the dance unadorned." I don't know who thought up that line, but he deserves writer's heaven for that one line alone. They went for a ride in her convertible and Barney had once again decided that Andy was going to "pop the question" that night to his current girlfriend after Andy had told him that he wanted to be alone with her and get to know her. Then Barney gathers up the whole town and they all are out at the lake having a great big time and poor Andy and Mary are in the car listening to music and they are found by Barney. Finally, Andy says he has been trying to court her for some time now and he wonders if she would mind being courted in public and if he could kiss her. She tells him he might as well go ahead because she doesn't think anyone would even notice at'all. He gives her a good one! "Hmmmm Pizza Pie. That's my favorite - mozzzzarella!" Have a great Mayberry Day! Sandy in Saudi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! "You think it'd be alright if I was to kiss you?" "You might as well, I don't think anyone would notice at all." Also, does it count when he kissed Thelma Lou to make Barney jealous? How about when he kissed his first love at the High School Reunion? I'd venture to say that Andy kissed each and every one of his girlfriends at least once. I can't decide which episode reflects just how (Aren't you) kind the folks in Mayberry are. Every episode has someone heping out another. I mean you can even go so far as to say the Bullie episode has Andy helping Opie in the sense that to have stepped in and put a stop to the bullie taking Opie's milk money, Andy would have not helped Opie at all! But to actually choose one I would have to pick the Christmas episode, depicting how no matter what trivialities come up in life (getting thrown into jail on Christmas eve) Mayberry folks go out of their way to make others feel at home, good about themselves, and generally extend a fine hospitality to one and all. You think Andy lost his best friends when Barney left Mayberry and Floyd kinda faded away? I do too! He never really did have someone who he looked up to. He was it, probably the smartest in town. Without making an episode of it he probably thought very highly of the preacher even though he thought his sermons where dry as dust. And maybe his fishing buddy from the lodge. Oh, and he had to put his trust in the banker. But when you got Otis, Ernest T. and the little fat mayor to hang out with you just naturally soar heads above! He did seek out the advice of the Karate teacher and he admired Helen a whole heck of alot! The town I grew up in all the kids called our Chief of Police Uncle Ralph. He was every kids friend. I don't recall now if he was all that smart but he sure was nice! And we all knew his home phone number just in case we ever needed help. I'm subscribed to an e-mail newsletter from www.space.com (a site about space exploration, astronomy, and sci-fi) and about a week ago they started a poll about "aliens among us". They have two celebrities to pick from at a time, and you can vote on whomever you think is an alien. Well, this Thursday (the 7th) Don Knotts goes head-to-head with Calista Flockhart in the voting! Obviously, this is all just in fun, but I'm going to be sure to vote for Calista on Thursday! This is one competition I don't think I want my beloveded Barney to win! :-D So far in the voting, Britney Spears beat out Ben Stein and Pikachu beat Donald Trump. Right now the voting is between Barbara Walters and Christopher Walken. Here's a link in case you want to check out the site: The Third Round: Aliens Among Us Which celebrity is really an alien? I betcha a brand new shiney nickle that Andy couldn't afford to get too buddy buddy with everyone because being the sheriff they would take advantage of him. Everyone knows someone that seems to be everyone's friend in time of need. That is what Andy is. He is the most sensible one of all and probably always ready to help out. But when it comes to best friends no one could replace good ole Barn. Still looking forward to the TAGS show in Birmingham. Hope to see lots of you there in October! Now, I think I'll go over the drugstore, get a bottle of pop, and watch a little tv. Yeah, I think that's what I'll do.
