How do y'all?
I just watched the episode where Barney's cousin comes to Mayberry.
It's the one where he cleans up the jail keys so well that they won't
open the lock anymore. I think the cousin's real name is Malcolm
something. Can anyone help me out with his name? I've seen him in plenty
of movies, but his name always eludes me. Connie
Happy Trails!

Wow! I've never seen so many answers to one question. Makes you wonder how
many of us Mayberians hang around with Otis, doesn't it? Oh well, Cheers!

I hope I am not mistaken in this comment, but I am sure I heard on the radio
a few days ago Jean Spiegel Howard, the wife of Rance and mother of Ron and
Clint Howard, had died. Anyone else hear this? I do not want to start an
untrue rumor and would like to know for sure.

Sadly it is true, CameraNut. It was reported in WBMUTBB Digest #308 &
#309. Shame on you for not reading your Digest.
Our prayers are with the Howard family.

Well, it was fun saying "ersatz" anyway, there's a word I don't get to use
very much.
I don't have any GPUSMC on tape, so I was using my untrained noticing and

Helloooooooooo Dollllllllll,
It's been a while since I've put in my two cents worth, but I have a lot
stored up to share.
I am glad to see there are a few new members who consider the Fun Girls
episodes their favorites. You just gotta love them.
As for the all Andy TV station, I hope this includes other characters from
TAGS as well, because I do enjoy the earlier years of Happy Days with Ron
Howard, Coccoon, and pretty much any Ron Howard movie production. I also
found an old TV series on Sunday nights called It's a Great Life with none
other than Frances Bavier cast as one of the regulars (Mrs Morgan). It airs
around 6pm EST on GoodtimeTV, and is from around 1955, given the voice over
commercial with the closing credits encouraging people to drive a 1955
Chrysler. I don't know the gist of the series as I always happen to catch
it in the last 10 minutes. So here is a donation of 2.98 and a pan of cashew
fudge to get the station going.
For those asking about Guilian Barre Syndrome: Many moons ago I was a
nursing assistant at a local rehabilitation hospital near Pittsburgh and I
saw a few cases of Guillian Barre pass through our establishment. What I am
about to tell you is from my personal observations of 20 years ago, and I am
sure things have progressed a bit since then, so if anyone knows anything in
addition to this, feel free to jump in at anytime.
We would get the patients after they were out or the critical stages. From
what I have seen and can remember, the syndrome can affect the whole body.
Usually it starts with paralysis in the toes and can work its way up to your
head. The first parts affected are the last to regain use. So when your
feet and toes go first, they are the last to come back. It can affect your
breathing, and I have seen patients come in with tracheostomies(temporary)
who were on respirators in the regular hospital. I have even seen a case
where a patient could not keep his eyes open because it affected the muscles
in his eyelids and he was wearing bandaids for a few days.
I have also seen cases where it did not progress beyond the knees or waist.
I never saw any children with it, but I saw more women than men with it, and
they were mostly childbearing to menopausal in age, with a few about Aunt
Bee's age.
It is a long haul back, and in the most severe cases, it can take a year or
longer to regain everything back to normal. Most patients I took care of
had 6-8 weeks of INTENSIVE therapy every day, 5-6 hours a day. They would get
fitted for thigh high leg braces to help in walking, and I have seen some
even have to relearn how to stand, by being strapped into a standing box 15
minutes at a time so they can learn how to weight bear before attempting
physical therapy. They went home and then came back for outpatient therapy
at our facility or another closer to their home. So you can imagine what
Andy has been through, even with the very best of care. When I first heard
tell of this many years ago, my heart went out to him just knowing his
struggles.
I was watching Dick Van Dyke fandemonium this weekend and saw our own Harvey
Bullock's name on the episode where Rob's brother Stacy the sleepwalker
comes to visit. Did Harvey write any other DVD episodes?
I saw the episode of Make Room for Daddy where Andy Taylor is introduced and
TAGS spun off from there. Danny Thomas and his family run a stop sign in
Mayberry,(they are on vacation or going to a club location with Danny) and
Andy is handing out the ticket. Danny Thomas thinks that Andy is a hayseed
and ends up getting into more trouble with Andy and "robe offending" every
time he opens his mouth.
That's about it for now.

Subject: Mayberry Days Silent Auction Update
We're down to single digit days before the big weekend of Mayberry Days and
I'm all keyed up! The auction is going to be very successful thanks to so
many of you who have generously created and donated such great items. You
need to see the latest photos on the webpage:
- Mayberry Boxer Shorts from Pat Coleman
- Baby bib with "Eatin' speaks louder than words" from Carolyn Smith
They are fantastic! The item list continues to grow to a point where I am
going to have to ask again if you can help out by giving some time during
Saturday 10:00 a.m. - noon (not more than an hour or so), because it will be
needed. We're going to fill more table space than last year, so we need
more folks to help out the bidders. It is more of a social time than
anything, with a rush at the end. Please consider helping the cause - email
me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and check out the Mayberry Days webpage at
www.surryarts.org. The official Mayberry Days schedule is now online, so
you can plan your days and not miss a thing.

It's interesting that Sheldon Leonard had so much to do with TAGS & DVD.
DVD got a
little more into social issues than TAGS did.
DVD actually submitted one of their episodes
to the NAACP for approval. It was "That's My
Boy" about the supposed baby mix-up at the
hospital. It was hilarious and was ground
breaking for its time. Both shows are terrific
and I would have a hard time choosing my
#1 choice. Were the Emmys fair to TAGS?
TAGS only had six and five of those went
to Don Knotts. Andy was blanked. DVD took
home 15 Emmys with awards going to the
show itself, writers, directors and actors. Its
hard to believe they were biased since a
Hollywood insider (Sheldon Leonard) had so
much to do with both shows. Any thoughts
on this?
