Don and Barney were already friends. Danny Thomas was a strong force in TV at this time. He saw Andy's nightclub routine (What it was, was football) and thought a TV show could be built around it. TAGS was created! But even as the show was in production, Don heard about it and called Andy. He told him he ought to have a deputy. Andy agreed and convinced Sheldon Leonard. The rest is history! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 17:42:13 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #320 To Crissm1 - I think the All Andy channel would be great. He's so tight, but I bet Ben Weaver has enough money. Tell him that if let's us borrow it, we won't tell anybody he doesn't know the words to "Standing On The Promisis". ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 18:01:09 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #321 To Connie Degrassi, Malcolm Merriweather was the English butler. Barney's cousin Virgil was played by Michael J. Pollard. Probably his biggest hit is "Bonnie & Clyde". ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 19:00:31 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: NEWS: Weaver's Dept. Store Now on Streets of Mt. Airy Weaver's Department Store now has an actual "bricks & mortar" store to go along with our online store and The Bullet. Well, the new store is actually more on the scale of the stand that Andy and Barney set up for Bert Miller in Mayberry, but still it does qualify as a "proper structure." The new store is located in Mount Airy, N.C., and is part of the new Main-Oak Emporium at 245 City Hall Street --- just a whiff and a whisker off Main Street, near the Old City Jail. (And more importantly, it's within sniffing distance of pork chop sandwich aromas coming from the Snappy Lunch.) So when you're in Mount Airy for Mayberry Days or whenever, we invite you to drop by and browse at Weaver's in Space #106 on the first floor of the Emporium. (But we don't want to be pushy.) Virtually all of the items we sell online and in The Bullet are available at the new Mount Airy store. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday; and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. As with our sales through The Bullet and Weaver's online, proceeds from the new store support all TAGSRWC activities and also go toward our helping out with a wide variety of Mayberry events and occasions. Thanks -- Jim ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 19:56:13 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #322 I was watching the episode tonight where Miss Peggy helps out Andy & Opie when Aunt Bee is gone and Floyd makes such a big deal of it all. Has anyone ever noticed that Floyd's glasses seem to be without glass in them? I know that sounds silly........but they sure look glass-less to me. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2000 20:56:21 -0400 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fun Girls/Goober wbmutbb-digest wrote: Hi y'all, I am a "Fun Girls" episode fan myself, I've always enjoyed Jean Carson, and I think George's debut was fantastic. Just a few comments here: I had a chance to visit Jean's web site "Hello Doll" and was both surprised and quite pleased her ancestry is traced to my home state, Connecticut. (That IS something to brag about on her part!). The second comment is about Goob and the Cary Grant "Judy....Judy" bit. For the record, Cary Grant himself never used that line in any movie. I believe it was started so that imitators with accents like Cary's would practice. According to the Book of Lists #3. Nonetheless, Goob is awfully cute when he does that Judy bit..... The TAGS fan who has replica squad car license plates is Phil Fox inCharlotte N.C.He couldn't locate a true original so had a hundred replica's struck. They are great. I don't have Phil"s email address, but if you post a notice on the digest ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) giving your email address, I'm sure he would get back to you. He had 40 plates left when last I heard from him. Happy Motoring from Mayberry! He showed up every now and then. Good man. Good family. Good cracker. Although TAGS is shown currently between 4 & 5PM while I'm at work, no cracks from bystanders about a VCR (I need to have George fix it while I'm having a picnic at the lake), in all reality it's has probably something to do with a "New Fall Line-up"? I've E-mailed TV Land, no response as of yet. Has this happened elsewhere? Barney should investigate. Thank you'all, is he one of ours? P.S. I'll contribute whatever to the TAGS Network, Lvroftags. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 07:55:20 -0400 From: John Lipscomb III <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Nurse Peggy I love Peggy. Okay, who can tell me which direction the Mayberry Courthouse door faces (North, South, East or West)? There is a clue in at least one episode. (I'm also curious to know if they contradict this in any other episodes.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 09:53:04 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: TV Land In response to whoever wrote about the TV Land schedule (sorry, I don't have the name, I put the last "Digest" on the bulletin board somewhere) TAGS still comes on but at different times now...7 & 7:30 pm weeknights, 10pm weeknights, and midnight weeknights (all times are EST). TV Land "freshens up" its schedule every few months but they surely haven't cancelled "Andy", which is now one of their signature shows...
