The correct answer IS North! The clue I received was the same one Charlie
gave. At the end of "The Clubmen," Opie, Andy and Barney face the rising
sun and turn to face the cells. If that direction was East, the Front door
would be on the North side of the building.

Barney was riding the White horse east to west ( was supposed to be west to
east). But anyway he rode pass the front of the courthouse so that would make
it facing South. Thanks for the pickle, I'll smoke it later.

hey folks! we just made a pre-"mayberry days" run to mt. airy monday to get
everything lined up for our weekend there. the new mayberry memories book by
jim clark and ken beck was only out in one store and that was "specialty
gifts." "pages bookstore" did not have it in yet but said they hoped they
would have it in by "mayberry days." it is definitely a must for mayberry
fans!! there are so many pictures in there that i have never seen before. it
is hard back with a dust cover and runs about $35. we also had the
unexpected pleasure of running into andy's boyhood friend, emmett forrest, in
the visitor's center. he let us listen to a cassette of paul harvey doing
his"rest of the story" radio segment and it was on andy griffith and mt.
airy. emmett said the info on mt. airy came from an interview that was
conducted with emmett from a radio reporter for the paul harvey show. we
also got our new 40th anniversary of tags"mayberry days" shirts designed by
barney chapter member, mike johnson,of greensboro,n.c.(where lydia
crosswaithe lives! not greece!) also russell hiatt of floyd's barbershop
recently was inducted into the barbering hall of fame!! if you get a chance
stop by and congratulate him!! he's all keyed up about it! we look forward
to seeing our mayberry friends there!! tim hutcherson

Hi......

Crystle M. from AL. has something in common with this Sheila from MI.
I'd be a stuttering fool if I met Mr. Bullock on the street. I'm a great fan
of his.

But since I don't even know what he looks like, I don't have to worry about
making a fool of myself. I could walk right past him and not even know it.

Well, Paul, here's one gal that would be so in awe
that I would
probably just
start stuttering or something equally sophisticated!
So I guess I'd
better
keep putting it in writing so that if Mr. Bullock
visits our Digest,
he will
know that Crystal M. in AL is his biggest fan!! He's
just the greatest!
He'll
probably never know how much joy he has brought to so
many of
us...anyone
want to second that notion???

Hey Crystal,
 I'll second that!

Barney-"That way both of us can show the boys there's
nothin to be scared of"

Hey to all,
This listing has nothing to do with TAGS,so please
forgive me. I'm looking for some help in locating a
show, that I believe CBS aired a couple of years ago,
called Morton and Hayes, and was hosted by Rob Reiner.
If any of my good and knowlegeable friends from the
digest has any info. on this show that you would like
to share,I sure would appreciate it...Thanks.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the list and I'd like more info on Mayberry Days.
What are the dates? I'd love to go! By the way, are there any Mayberrians
out there from Tennessee?

Crystal,

I second the notion. Mr. Bullock is a great and I wouldn't even be able to
stand next to him without going giddy, let along shake his hand and talk to
him.

Have a Mayberry Kind Of Day!!

Also, y'all have fun this weekend. Maybe next year I'll be able to join in
on the festivities. I'll be looking for a full report.

In the show, Mount Pilot is mentioned numerous times.
It's a place to eat chinese food and a place to buy a
mink coat and to take the "Fun Girls - Hello Doll"

When they went to Mount Pilot, they seemed to make it
back the same night.

You can see the real Pilot Mountain, if you stand
across the street from the Andy Griffith Playhouse.
It's about 6 miles from where Andy grew up. The town
of Pilot Mountain is actually smaller than Mt. Airy.

Here is a photo of the real Pilot Mountain from the
pinnacle overlook:

Subject: Mayberry courthouse doors

Y'all got me curious about which direction the courthouse doors face.
I'd love to figure out the hypothetical layout of the whole town, but
I've never paid much attention to directions before. I was watching the
opening scene yesterday from "Opie's Charity" in preparation for our
"Back to Mayberry" Bible study here at River Valley Church of Christ, and
the shadows are pretty distinct. Since it's supposed to be morning (and
if the scene was actually filmed in the morning), it looks to me as if
the front of the courthouse faces south, more or less. Was TAGS
consistent with that fact, or did they play fast and loose with it the
same way they did with Barney's middle name?

"Yeah, boy!"

My wife's grandmother suffered from Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) a few years
back. It is a devastating disease that attacks the nervous system. She was
totally incapacitated, could not move nor speak, but fully recovered after
much time and therapy. One thing she constantly recounts is the fact that
despite her total paralysis, she was fully aware of everything around her
including tremendous pain. Her greatest quandary she recalls was not being
able to tell any one of her pains, itches, etc. Her recovery was miraculous
as there was a much younger patient suffering at the same time she was and he
died as a result of the illness. We should all pray that Andy recovers
without much suffering.
