I have a question that may have been covered many times before but I'm rather new to the digest. I've been wondering forever why Barney calls Andy "Anj". Andy is, of course, short for Andrew but where does "Anj" come from ?? "Anj" or "Ang" would logically be short for Angie or Angela, but Andrew?? Thanks! _Dan Ridge "I wonder what causes that?" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 21:20:33 -0500 From: Teresa Akin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Man in a Hurry & Sandi's loss Just sitting here watching Andy on TVLand (Friday Night). Man in a Hurry episode is on. When Mr. Tucker walks up to Andy as he's getting Aunt Bee into the car after church, he calls out "Sheriff Taylor! You are Sheriff Taylor, aren't you?" My question is, if Mr. Tucker was just walking into town & saw Andy getting into the sheriff's car, how did he know Andy's last name? Ya'll may have covered this question before, but like a lot of other folks I'm noticing things I never had before. Also, to Sandi who lost her companion dog, I am so sorry. I have an 10 year old Peek-a-poo that I wouldn't take a million dollars for. I'm sure it's difficult dealing with your loss, but be thankful for the wonderful companionship you've had for 11 years. It's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. I'm cautious about mentioning tha= t, having badly blown any miniscule reputation I had as even a novice notice= r for my Judy Timberlake fiasco (IT'S KATHY TIMBERLAKE !!!). However, I will give this one a try anyway. We used to say it thusly: First person (who is holding an apple core): "Apple Core" Second person: "Baltimore" First person again: "Who's your friend?" Second person: "Billy" (or someone else, another person who is there) Then the first person throws the apple core at the person who was declare= d to be the "friend". I hope that helps, and I hope it is correct. (If it's not what they said,= it is, at least, what we used to say. Lot's of luck to you and yours. Goober says hey. Will - "Who you callin' a creachter?" - DuBois (I'm not really that "sensitive" about the Kathy Timberlake fiasco, that'= s spirit. It's a terrible thing to get started about somebody, that they're= sensitive. My mother was spirited, too.) ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://home= =2Enetscape.com/webmail ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 21:34:55 -0700 (PDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Juanita If memory serves me correctly, the name of the song is Juanita, but the first line in the chorus starts out Neeta, Juanita. It is an old song that I rememer singing years ago & still remember some of the words to it. A star or two from TAGS are also in that movie. It's an old movie filmed in a small town in the midwest, called Rachel, Kansas. If any of you neighbors have not seen this movie, watch for it. It's a wonderful movie. Brings back many memories of small town living which I truly missed. Since you're talking about which direction the courthouse is facing, I have another question. ow far is the courthouse from Andy's house. >>> It's only half a block. In many episodes, there are long shots showing Andy's front yard and the yards of his neighbors to the right (as you walk out Andy's front door), and the courthouse is clearly visible at the end of the block. The church was on the corner diagonally opposite from the courthouse, which makes you wonder why Andy drove his family to church. They lived practically right across the street! - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 08:29:25 -0500 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Nita, Juanita >>>From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I saw the Loaded Goat episode today and was wondering about the song Barney plays as they walk the goat out of town. Is it Neeta...Juanita? >>> It's a real song all right; the title is simply "Juanita." Somewhere around here I have an old, old songbook which includes that song and many others used on TAGS. I can't help but wonder if Andy Griffith had a copy of this same songbook, and pulled it out whenever an episode called for a song (Earle Hagen confirmed that Andy usually picked all of the songs himself). Other songs in the book include "Welcome, Sweet Springtime," and "Santa Lucia." - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 08:17:08 -0500 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: apple rhyme >>>From: SANDRA SILS <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Could any good neighbor tell me what the rhymn is that the boys recite when they are eating apples that they stole with that new Quincy boy? >>> I don't know the origin of this ritual, but I think it goes like this: first person: "Apple core" second person: "Baltimore" first person: "Who's you friend?" ...and then the person named by the second person becomes the target for the apple core thrown by the first person. This same bit was used in the 1952 Disney short "Donald Applecore," when Chip and Dale were stealing apples from Donald's orchard. Therefore, it was probably a pretty old gag at the time it was used on TAGS. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 11:19:50 CST From: "The Hendersons" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: just received "complete set" of the Bullet We just received our "complete set" of the Bullet; it came promptly and was packaged well. What a pleasure to read these ! The "behind the scenes" articles about some of our FAVORITE episodes is a dream-come-true! For example, the stories behind Opie the Birdman, Barney gets his first car,and a tear jerker--> the Christmas episode. Today's reading will include the bed jacket story; can hardly wait! It is especially heart warming to read actual descriptions of camera shots and ideas behind certain epilogues. Great!!! have a great day/night. Seems like we been studyin' on directions for nigh on to a coon's age now, and the most I can get from it, not havin' my thinkin' bucket with me and all, is that this must have been one of those little inconsistencies that make retro-TV so fascinating. One direction, I know for sure, no matter what it was that faced north, it was the mayor's office that was directly up, as the goat flies, you might say. My son, Rayfe, and I were watching "Opie's Charity" again yesterday, and I must have laughed the whole time the show was on. Friends, that's good TV. "Poor Horatio...." In todays local newspaper, the San Bernardino County Sun, there is an real estate ad for the Grand Opening of Mayberry in the City Of Victorville, Ca., it's a new housing community. The model homes are named, The Taylors, The Nelsons, The Andersons, The Cunninghams and Mr. & Mrs. Wilson. Kinda interesting to say the least. Ol Barn otta investigate, could be Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, Barney, Floyd, Otis etc., have relocated to Mayberry, Ca. from Mayberry, NC.? Twilight Zone? Nothing but TAGS etc., on the local stations? It's BIG, really BIG! We can really now live in Mayberry. Hafta go visit, find out which way the courthouse really does face, take photos etc., I'll check with Andy to be sure, or if he's not in, I'll ask Ol Barn, he'll have his investigation completed by then. Lotsa luck to you and yours, Lvroftags. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2000 20:13:21 GMT From: "Alison Johnson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry geography Hey All, Just a quick question that sort of goes along with the recent geography theme of a few of the recent postings. Just how big is the county of Mayberry? I contend that it must be VERY large if Andy and Barney had to get up at 4am to get to Briscoe Darling's while it was still daylight. Plus they brought their gear and stayed the night. Was this because Ernest T. Bass only came around at night or because it was too far to drive back that day? BTW, how did they get their car past the Robert E. Lee Natural Bridge? Just wondering. Hope everyone who went to Mayberry Days had a great time. Maybe next year for the rest of us. Thanks for listenin'. Doug Johnson "No, no. That's inarculated." _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I haven't been posting much lately...what with singing at the Congo Club nights and feeding those children in the daytime, my plate is pretty full. But I have had such a big week, I just have to take some time to tell ya'll about it! Firstly, most of ya'll know that I am a chef and since becoming a step mom. I have taken up the noble profession of 'lunch lady' in order to be off work when Step-Daughter is off school. So anyways. to honor TAGS's 40th Anniversary and Mayberry Days, I had a special Mayberry luncheon for the teachers and staff. I decorated the teachers lunchroom with all my TAGS nic-nacs. I made xerox copies of TAGS characters and colored them ala Andy Warhol and put them on the walls. I made a spread that Aunt Bee would have been proud of, with recipes from the Aunt Bee cookbook. I even had jars labeled as kerosene cucumbers. I played the Mayberry music cd and wore my Aunt Bee apron. Some of the teachers didn't get it, but the ones who did, loved it! I had alot of staff tell me how much they loved the show and how some of them still were regular watchers. It was fun for me...I love doing things that promote "My Hometown" !!! Now be sure to look for "Big Week Pt. 2" because the only way to describe it is BIG!!! ~the groovy misspoovey~ ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V2 #330 ***************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ ************************************************** You must send your comments to the Digest from the address you used to join WBMUTBB or your message will not be posted.
