Subject: Mayberry Days 2000
Hi everyone. This is the first time I've wrote in, so bare with me. I just
wanted to let you all know that I went to Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy and I
had the time of my life. This was my first time and I don't plan on missing
another one. I'll start planning a vacation around it every year. We saw
the Doug Dillard band, listened to the trivia(man they were tough, and I
thought I knew a lot about the show), had my picture taken with other
WBMUTBB members, ate at the Snappy Lunch and the Bluebird Diner, met George
Spence, Earnest T., Floyd, Barney(man, he was funny), watched the parade,
and visited the downtown shops. It was GREAT. I know my freinds and family
are tired of me talking about what a good time I had. Sense there seems to
be a lot of trivia that goes on here, I have a question. Does anybody know
who's house is besides the church? When I saw it a while back, I couldn't
believe it. "It sure was nice having ya, come back when you can stay
longer" Kevin

Hi, this is Michael. I know I rarley post on here. but i have a question.
My brother and have argued over something and I wanted to ask everyone about
this. In the episode where Andy finds out that Opie only gave 3 cents to the
charity fundation, my brother claims that it is the ONLY episode with a "sub
story"...two stories in one. which it IS that, becuase there is also the
story of the man who comes back that the town that was dead. But I just KNOW
that there is 1 or 2 more episodes that have sub stories. I was going to say
the episode where Andy tries to get the couple who fights all the time to
come in every morning and practice being nice, because at the same time he is
getting Opie and his friend to do the same. But I'm not sure that'd apply
since their so much alike. ha ha. But anyway.....thats my question. Can
ANYONE claim a few episodes that have SUB stories ?
thanks!

Dee, I haven't been to Ripley, but I see that it is close to Dyersburg. My
inlaws live in Jackson. Went to Dyersburg in 97 and saw the First Lady of
Country Fiddle Jana Jae perform there.

Sounds like you are having so much fun being Stepmom and a lunch lady.
Congratulations on all this. Somewhere I missed or more likely forgot about
you getting married and becoming a step mom. A major change for sure, and I
wish your family all the blessings possible.
That is cool doing the Mayberry luncheon. Looking forward to reading part

< Howdy y'all, in reference to the movies Andy made in the seventies,
where he plays another small town sheriff, (no, I don't know the titles,
but I'd like to,) I loved that big old jeep-type vehicle he drove around

I believe he played a sheriff in the movie called "The Girl in the Empty
Grave." I don't remember his name, however.

Subject: Paul's theory
I think Paul is flaunting his education but that's all right - it's worth
every penny he spent. His theory about how long it took Barney & Andy to
drive to the Darling's cabin and Goober carrying fenders etc across the foot
bridge sounds good on paper but my idea is that it took them almost 8 hours
to get there because, since they couldn't drive across the Robert E. Lee
natural bridge, they had to drive AROUND the back side of the mountain -
maybe through other counties - and sneak up from around the back. This could
have driven many miles on treacherous, narrow mountain roads and taken all
day. Put that in your smipe and poke it.

Subject: Andy in Sheriff movies
Andy Griffith played a sheriff in a movie called "Girl in an Empty Grave". I
remember several Mayberry characters in this movie and I think Aneta Corsaut
was in it but that may be the left side of my brain acting up again. There
was another one where he played the same sheriff - must have been "Winter
Kill" like Sandi said but I'm not sure.
Linda - the only thing this Goober is sure of is death and taxes (not
necessarily in that order)

Whooooeeee what a weekend
I ain't never had such a gooooooooood time in all my borned days.
It was so great to finally meet the other nuts like me out there,
I knew that I wouldn't have to go to Mars to meet other creachtures like
myself
(It has been suggested to me in the past)
To see David again, meet Allan, Jeff, Orville, Jim, Emmett, Maggie, Jack,
George,
and a host of other beautiful preserved fans from all over this country we
call home.
I can't believe (alot of you won't believe it either) that I only live 2
hours away from
Mt. Airy (Charlotte) and have never been there afore.
A feller like that ought to be Horse Whipped ( wait whilst I go get a Horse
to whip em)
As a first timer, I was and am still awed by the experiance, and I only got
to see a few things,
Andy's house, ate at the Blue Bird Diner (talked to Juanita) took my squad
car to Wally's
for a lube job (didn't get one) saw Mike Hoover Elvis show ( WOW what a
performer) I am
also a big E fan. topped it off with Col. Tims Talent show
Them folks have more talent in their little pinkythan I have in my whole
body.
I am looking forward to more events and MBD next year.
By the way I sold all of the License Plates. NO MORE PLATES AVAILABLE !
I will do at least one more set of 100 plates, since the demand is still
out there,
but I need some help with What Year of Plate or should I do one without a
Year Date
and make them Orange with Black letters that way those with other than 1963
squad cars
could simply paint the year of their car on the tag. But in NC only even
years were orange with
black letters. This is the color scheme onthe plates that come into plain
view on The AGS
please give me some feedback

I deeply sympathise in the loss of your pet. We had our Jenny for 12
years until she died over a year ago. She was especially dear to me
because when my husband was alive he enjoyed playing with her. She was
part Lab & part Boarder Collie. My neighbors came over & helped me
bury her in our back yard. Even though I now have another dog, a
Cockapoo which I love a lot, there always will be a special place in my
heart for Jenny.
On a lighter note, Miss Poovey, I'm sure I'm not the only one pea green
with envy that you got that there Kleenex to daub your eyes with when
you watch those touching Tags episodes. Guess maybe I'll have to run in
& get some of them there square things on a roll when I watch as some of
them always make me cry too

Whew!!! You must be a pretty smart person to come up with all of that. I
only have one explanation for why it took them eight hours: it's called
television. Shows do it all the time thinkin' we just sit there and don't
actually think about what we're seeing. They didn't think we'd (or at least
you) look at the shadows, or remember exactly how big Mayberry County was.
They didn't realize or imagine that 40 years later fans would be
contemplating why it took them eight hours to travel only 12 miles. A bad
habit they have gotten themselves into and I think they should realize we
are actually pretty smart critters.

Congratulations to Paul for his beautiful theory. I bet he even has a beard
and smokes a pipe, too. I nominate him for County Clerk!
Two addendums to your theory: 1. Let's give Andy the benefit of the doubt as
to mileage and assume that the courthouse is on or near the edge of the
county line and the Darling estate is on the opposite edge - making it closer
to 23 miles. 2. Although Andy's jurisdiction is limited to Mayberry County,
that doesn't mean the roads are limited to Mayberry County. It is a fact that
in many mountainous, rural areas that the main roads may twist and wind
around through two or more counties just to get around certain mountains.
Maybe they even passed by another gas station on that road? Anyway, Paul
really had his thinking bucket on today! Attaboy Paul.

Subject: Re: Andy's authority
Since everybody is "noticing" stuff these days, I'll put in my two cents
worth of "noticing." As a former lawman myself, I've always wondered why the
Mayor of Mayberry township was giving orders to Andy. Andy is Sheriff of
Mayberry County - he is not Chief of the Mayberry Police Dept. In other
words, he works for the county government, not the city government and
shouldn't have to get bossed around by the local mayor.

Hey Folks,
I *FINALLY* got the word that "Floyd" can be at the big Mayberry event
coming up this weekend in Birmingham, AL!!! There was some question
because of it being sponsored in part by a political campaign but the
lawyers, and they're goooooood, said it should be fine so long as I am
just "Floyd" and keep all comments to "Floyd" type comments!!!
This is BIG for me because it's the Big 40 for TAGS and I'll get to
play a part in it. I hope to see you all in Birmingham. For more
information, head to the TAGSRWC web site and to the Event Calendar.
Remember, this event is like water and air...**FREE** (but you will
need a ticket).

Also, the Birmingham News today has a nice story not only on the
upcoming even but also on Beck & Clark's wonderful new book, Mayberry
Memories! (You can pick up your copy at Weaver's

Be watching your local paper today for stories about TAGS!!! It IS the
40th Andyversary after all!!!
