Hi all,

Like Crystal, I'm from Alabama and this was *my* first show too. (I regret I
couldn't find you in the crowd Crystal, I always wanted to meet my fellow
Alabamian list member!) I had a wonderful time. I regret that I didn't get
more autographs, including those of Howard Morris and Betty Lynn (although I
did get to meet ms. Lynn), but I met some fine people, everyone of them was
so nice. Jean Carson was a special delight. I was also thrilled to meet
Elinor Donahue.

I also liked meeting our good friend Allan Newsome right after the show. I
had no idea he did such a great Floyd! Also the first time I ever saw David
Browning as Barney, he's a natural I tell ya! It was very thrilling,
especially getting that phone call from Don Knotts and seeing Maggie Petersen
team back up with the "Darlings". A very special and unforgettable night.
Hopefully my friend Judge Joel Laird (I've known him for years, in fact I
covered the story earlier this week when he swore in the new mayor and
council members in Anniston) won't forget us if he gets elected, and will
hold another event!

I dare say you are sooooooooo right! The people were very nice, the show was
really good, and Allan and David were (as usual) wonderful.

Sue Grigsby, thanks for the nice words about our website. Don and Joyce gave
us some more pix and we got them posted today so you might wanna check back
in. I'll be adding more as I get them from other folks and look forward to
hearing from you when you get yours developed.

Let me say that I am glad that my family and I had a
great time this weekend at the reunion show. We
stayed from 3:00 p.m. when the gates opened until
about 8:30 p.m. because of the coldness (I have a 6
1/2 month old and he was getting too cold in the
outdoor amphitheater). The highlight of the part I
saw was the broadcasted phone call from Don Knotts to
Betty Lynn. His last words were the infamous, "Nip
it, nip it, nip it!"

Since we had to leave early, I would be indebted to
anyone that taped the show that would make me a copy.
I will gladly pay for postage, the tape, and a portion
for your trouble. If you could e-mail me directly I
surely would appreciate it! I might even catch you
some fish for breakfast. (Ha, Ha!)

Thanks,
Tim Brown, Kennesaw, GA

P.S. I also enjoyed our hosts for the show - The
Mayberry Deputy and Floyd Lawson. I was glad to
finally meet Floyd before the show and have a picture
taken. He's a prince of a fellow!

Another outstanding job by the performers, organizers and volunteers in
Birmingham for the 40th Anniversary Cast Reunion. I think everyone enjoyed
the whole evening, despite the cold temperatures and inconsistent soundboard
controller. Thank you to Judge Joel Laird for hosting the event, David
Browning for emceeing, and a very special thank you to Allan Newsome who
saved Howard Morris from a potentially disastrous fall during the show. It
was great to see so many friends and meet all the wonderful cast from our
favorite show.

Was there any news why Bernard Fox was unable to attend?

Hi everyone! Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the TAGS gathering October
7 in Birmingham. I just wish I had all the autographs of the wonderful stars!
But the lines very simply too long to wait on all of them. We enjoyed the
event with some fellow TAGS friends and that made it much more special! My
husband who will never be the fan that I am really enjoyed himself too and
waited in line to get me some autographs. He also bought me the "Mayberry
Memories" book that I cannot seem to put down. The guests were all
wonderful!!! I especially liked Maggie Peterson and the Darlings. Judge
Joel Laird was a very nice person to sponser this event. He was very funny on
stage with the other performers. The way he feel about TAGS says a lot to me
about his character. He certainly gets my vote and I'm sorry I didn't thank
him for the wonderful event.
I also wanted to welcome the new members of the digest!! You are going to
love it! Congratulations to Mrs. Lesch on the birth of her new grandaughter!
As soon as she is able, prop her up in front on a good ole TAGS show and get
her started off on the right foot!

Take Care and Lots of Luck to you and yours!

It's not hard to act like somebody when you're in Mayberry. What a friendly

Subject: TAGS Contradictions

I just noticed a contradiction that I never noticed before and was
wondering if anyone else had.

In one episode the "Battle of Mayberry" from Revolutionary times is
prominent, meaning Mayberry existed prior to 1776-81. In one I saw last
night (about Lady Mayberry) the "Mayberry Centennial" is referred to.
Since the show was set in the early 60s, this means that Mayberry was
founded during the Civil war, 1861-65. There is a third episode where
Mayberry issued a Confederate bond and an old man still had it, meaning
the town was founded prior to the Civil War (or possibly early in that
war),

What a wonderful time it was at the mayberry 40th family reunion and what a
great job judge Laird did putting it together. Even though it was 30 degrees
the warmth that the actors brought made up for the freezing temperatures.

Just thawing out from our time in Birmingham yesterday, and wanted to say
what a good time we had celebrating TAGS' 40th anniversary. Thanks so much
to Judge Joel Laird for putting the program and autograph session together
and providing it as a gift to Mayberry fans. What a wonderful cast was
assembled -- and they were all so pleasant and professional, in spite of what
turned out to be a long and chilly evening. I had the good fortune to be at
the 35th anniversary show in Winston-Salem, and it was nice to see some cast
members who weren't at that occasion. In addition to all the "big stars" it
was great to meet other actors who played limited, but memorable roles, as
well as Howard McNear's son and Paul Hartman's grandson. And I especially
enjoyed the Gomer Pyle connection (it would be great to see ol' Gomer himself
someday!). As always, we enjoyed seeing Allan and David doing their thing.
And I was able to pick up Jim and Ken's new book, "Mayberry Memories," and
it's awesome! I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. Then, on top of
everything else, the phone call to the audience from Don Knotts during the
show was pure icing on the cake. Thanks to everyone who had a part in
putting together this wonderful experience that my entire family could take
part in. It was big...really big! In fact, big wasn't the word for it!

BIG is the word for it, but really not=A0 enough, maybe two or three Big's
would describe it. Thank you Judge Joel and Whitney for a wonderful
gathering of Mayberry cast and families. In spite of the cold weather it
was fantastic. It was a typical Mayberry bunch, no complaints of the
weather except a mention about it's=A0 cold, not upset folks when unable to
get autographs from everyone, even when standing in line for over 2 hrs.,
disappointment sure but not complaining, it was just a wonderful Mayberry
time. Besides the wonderful line-up of cast we had a phone call from Don
Knotts and was able to hear him talk with Betty Lynn on stage, a wonderful
reference to the episodes on tape with a special grouping for our
characters who are deceased.
Great job Joel and Whitney
As for me, and I live in the state of Alabama, I'm voting for Joel.
Long live Mayberry

Yes. Bernard wasn't feeling well so he had to back out as the date grew
near. I believe we found out he wasn't going to make it to Birmingham on
Tuesday before the show. I don't believe his illness is overly serious but
he didn't really think he could perform up to standard.

My wife and I had the privilege of driving down (we are from Knoxville, TN) to
Alabama this weekend for the 40th anniversary get together and just had a
wonderful time. I would like to take a minute to thank Joel Laird for
sponsoring the event and the nice folks in Alabama as well as Allan and David
for the entertainment. It was great to meet some of the cast that we hadn't
gotten to see before. We also had a chance to meet the nice people that work
at Weavers department store. We stayed for about an hour and a half of the
show but needed to leave a little early as we were not prepared for the chilly
Alabama evening (we didn't even bring a jacket) and had a few hours drive ahead
of us.

We were wondering if there was anyone there that was able to video the event
that could make a copy. It made us sick to leave early and I would gladly pay
someone for the copy as well as pay for postage and handling. Please let me
know if you could help.

Just wanted to say a word of thanks to Joel Laird and all those
responsible for the Alabama reunion. There are not too many things I would
sit in the cold and enjoy, but this show was definitely one of them. The
trip from South Carolina to Pelham was worth it. David and Allen did a great
job as always, and that was a nice save you had at the front of the stage
Allen!
