I was thinking......without my bucket........how the scene was staged where
Andy is sitting in a chair and Barney walks up behind him and bangs his
cymbals together. Andy's reaction is so real.

Is Andy wearing some kind of ear protection we can't see? If not, how long
did his ears ring from the noise? How many times did they have to do that
scene before it was acceptable to the director? Wonder what Andy felt like
sitting in that chair knowing what was going to happen and anticipating the
ear splitting noise to come?

Anyone else ever wonder about that?

To correct Paul about Aunt Bee's belongings being sold at the University of
North Carolina, they were actually sold at the McKimmon Center at North
Carolina State University. My wife and daughter went to the preview but did
we not go back for the sale as I had to work that day.
Her old Studebaker sold for $20,000, which was the highest bid item there. I
do remember them saying a lot of the items were purchased by the Mayberry
Motor Inn in Mt. Airy for a display, and they have one room near the office
where you can look through the window and see all her old stuff.
Her grave is in a public cemetery in Siler City and is very easy to find. The
name is not on the gate but it is just west of an overhead bridge on Rt. 64.
Her tombstone is the tall one on the right as you drive in, near the back of
the cemetery. Not fancy, just tall.

Folks, are we being a little selfish? There are other people out there
who look forward to the long weekends of The A-Team, Charlies Angels,
etc. I'm not one of them, but we just have to grin and bear it. It makes
me appreciate TAGS even more when I turn on the tv. and there it is! Got
my Mayberry Memories book in the mail this past week, what a beautiful
book!! I'm going to savor every page. Chin up, everyone, TAGS
shall return. Mary Grace in Georgia

were they both the sameage? >>

Hey To All,
In one of the episodes (maybe it's "A Wife For Andy"), Barney talks of Andy
be in his mid thirties. If not that exact episode, it is one of the many
times Barney tries to play matchmaker. In "Class Reunion", when Andy and
Barney are looking through the high school year book. They find both of
their pictures in the same section, which would indicate they were of the
same class. If not the exact same age, they would be only a year or two
apart in age.

This brings me to conclude that Barney and Andy were mostly in their their
mid thirties when we visit them in b&w and that they are only a year or two
apart if not the exact same age.

Anyone want a pickle for their Sunday dinner?

Hey To All,
Oh Mal, let me locate the Posh Puffs. That is just so said to hear about and
think that Ms. Bavier's personal belongings were auctioned off and now to
hear such prices were put on her belongings. It makes her sound so lonely
in life not to have had anyone to will the personal belongings to or have one
who could over see the belongings got a respectful price. Why selling the
rake at 25 cents sounds so disrespectful to the person who was loved and
liked by most of her castmates and fans alike! I don't think my heart could
take hearing how much the rest of the belongings brough if they "were almost
given away". Did she absolutely have no family to will her belongings? I
know Miss Bavier wasn't married but did she have sisters and brothers that
would have produced nephews and nieces?

police and fire departments and the ambulance service (I've got a copy of
her Last Will and Testament around here someplace -- probably in the box

 ring).

She had 15 cats at the time of her death, and they were all adopted very
quickly by Siler City residents. Wouldn't it be great to have one of Aunt
Bee's cats? Perhaps some of those cats are still alive today. >>

Hey To All,
Okay, I am about to start another flood to float another Ark upon as Miss
Bavier was so near and dear to my heart (even though I never had the pleasure
of meeting her). Paul, how did you come across obtaining the last will and
testament? That would be a fine historical memoribilia and well, it touches
my heart to think you have it.

15 Cats! Achooo! I am allergic but if they are Frances'/Aunt Bee's I want
one. I would think that with that many cats the chances of one being alive
would be good but an even greater chance that if they weren't, there would
have been offspring of that lineage walking around the Siler City area! Just
think! Achoo! What a JOY to have been one of those Siler City folks who
adopted!!

I will be down with the Pickles, my Posh Puffs and Benedryl,

Good Sabbath to all my Mayberry friends! Misspoovey here to report the
minutes of our "Opie" chapter meeting on Saturday. The meeting was held
at Laura B's beautiful new home. Laura is brand-new to the digest; I
think it's been decided that she will post under the name of Fun Girl
Skippy. After all, she is blonde, adores Barney and she has that
snorting-laugh thing down cold!

So the theme was 40th Anniversary. We served fried chicken, real mashed
potatoes, peas with pearly onions (they twanged our buds) and biscuits
with honey. I guess the person who was supposed to bring the watermelon
couldn't make it. We called for seconds in the proper Darlng way
(MEAT!!!) and I got a big wooden spoon out of the drawer just to assure
no elbows on the table. Everything was de-lish; everyone must have
thought so because no one said much. Which is fine, cuz eating speaks
louder than words. And if you've never heard that before, you need to
get out of the house more! You may have figured out that food is a big
part of our meetings...like the Darlings, we are a group of beautiful
delicate women & hearty eating men!
We watched "The New Housekeeper" to pay hommage to the start of the
series then we played Mayberry Jeopardy! , a version I made up myself.
The catagories were:

>All About Opie
>The Many Loves of Ernest T
>Mendlebright Mania
>Mayberry Union High
>Blue Mayberry

Orlando's Aunt Bee came in 1st, my own Elvisfife came in 2nd and Skippy
came in 3rd. Not to worry, though. Everyone was a winner because they
all got one of my "In Andy We Trust" dollar bill. Looks like a $1 bill
but has Andy's face instead of George's. Other prizes given out...

>Otis bookmark (Save my place while I fill my vase!)
>Aunt Bee & misspoovey fridge magnets
>Pink Floyd Backroom Pass
>Giraffes are Selfish stickers
>and other fun stuff!!!

Do alot of other chapters go all out like we do? I for one would love to
hear about meetings from our many chapters out there! The internet,
discussion boards, chat rooms and e-mail digests are amazing and
wondrous things, but nothing beats meeting in person and sharing good
times and fellowship with like-minded folks!!! Looking forward to
reading about all the chapter get togethers!

"Has anyone considered the effect we might be able to have if we started a
"polite" write-in program to TV-Land about the limited showing of our
favorite show now that they have most of the rights to showing it?"

Great idea! How about if we all wrote in and asked for a special
non-edited showing. It wouldn't have to be all the time-
how bout just once a week?

Best of luck to you and yours!

>>>From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
... I know there are lots of inconsistencies in Mayberry. Like the year Andy
graduated from high school and then in another episode he was in WWII.
>>>

Actually, Andy never claims to have served in WWII. He says (in two
different episodes) that he was "over there [in France] during the war," but
he doesn't specify which war. He PROBABLY meant WWII, but perhaps he was
stationed at a U.S. base in France during the Korean War.

There is an outstanding article in the Sunday Raleigh News & Observer about
David Browning, "The Mayberry Deputy" (a prince of a fellow). I've
requested that it be posted online so everyone can read it, so keep a good

Folks,

I just received the Mayberry Memories book for my birthday last week. This
is the new book written by Jim Clark and Ken Beck. It is the best Mayberry
book yet. If you like looking at pictures of TAGS and learning a little bit
more about the show, this is for you! This book does not disappoint.
