In the class reunion episode I believe the banner says Class of 45, so if
they graduated that year and WWII (the big one, to quote Archie Bunker)
lasted till 1947, then it's entirely possible that Andy served in France
if only perhaps part of the post-battle forces after V-E Day, although
Barney never made it past our eastern shores (remember the PX library he
was in charge of?). Seems like the later color episode of a class
reunion showed their group as the class of '48 though; just one of those
interesting contradictions!

in response to rebecca's inquiry about the foreign language barney and andy
used in the episode "stranger in town" i believe you are correct. it was
german. i think the phrase is "spreken de deutch" (my spelling may be wrong)
and if i'm correct it means "do you speak german." barney mentions germans
in several episodes including one where he mentions an old german who fought
in world war 1 that told him always have the backs of your shoes clean
because that is the last thing people see when you walk away and it leaves a
good impression. apparently this german was living in mayberry.

I've been following the messages about Aunt Bee's belonging's and have
to add something I've heard. I work with a girl from North Carolina and
mentioned I'm a fan of TAGS. She told me her uncle was a sherif in a
small town in that state and knew Bee's gardner. He was a prisoner and
when released worked for Bee. She did a have a Studabaker and this girl
told me Bee kept it up on blocks when it was still new, rarely using it.
She willed it to her gardner. She had distant relatives but didn't speak
to them. This girl mentioned a couple of other things I preferred not to
believe because Aunt Bee will always be Bee.
Hey to you n yours.

Hi all...
I've really enjoyed the discussion about Francis Bavier's personal items. I
was lucky enough to run across a collector who had purchased serveral items
from her personal estate collection. He had one of her cancelled checks,
which I proudly display in my den. Y'all might want to check and see if
there are any floating around out there. I understand that one went at an
auction for a very high price. Check with Greg Kelly. He's a member of
WBMUTBB and see if he has any of her personal items left. He's very
gracious. I was even able to purchase one of her handkerchiefs too. Try
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and tell him I sent you his way.

That's a good observation about Andy's reaction to Barney clanging the
cymbals. As far as how he pulled it off, I can't help but thinking ...
that's the actor of the man! He always made everything so believable.

YEAH, I have always wondered about that! And what about in the episode "Dogs,
Dogs, Dogs" where all the dogs run in and knock down that inspector? And
remember the one where the truck runs over Barney's foot? These are only a
few of the many "I wonder" observations of mine. Ya'll got any others???

I have the book but I bought it for myself. (I have several "TAGS" books but
this is the best so far.) Most of my family just don't get my Mayberry
addiction. I am so glad to know there is someone in your life who does!!! I
totally agree with you...the book sure doesn't disappoint!!
May you have many more happy birthdays ahead!!

Subject: Re: Misspoovey's report on chapter meeting
After reading Misspoovey's report of the "Opie" chapter's last meeting, I
feel like I missed out on a truly outSTANDin' evening of Mayberry fun!
How I wish I could have been there, Misspoovey! The chapter I belong to
(in Terre Haute, Indiana) became inactive several years ago, and I regret
that. At the last meeting, I won the trivia contest and was awarded with
a Goober trading card autographed by the Goob himself. Another time, we
took a trip up to Danville to the Mayberry Cafe, which was recently
written about in the digest. See, Misspoovey, you've got me reminiscing.
Now that we live in another town, maybe I just ought to start up my own
chapter! Hmmm...now there's a thought. Anyway, thanks for the report --
I can almost taste those peas with pearly onions!
Janet

Let's see.......there was the couple who, as Floyd put it, "now they are
announcing their nuptials"....the manicurist who took Piere back... the new
doctor....Charlene and Dud, "Stop that wedding!"........the stranger who
knew everyone (but he only wanted to "call on", so I guess that doesn't
count).....Jeff Pruitt..... Briscoe Darling when he wooed Aunt Bee.....does
Andelina count if she can't talk?.....Hanna and Josh.....Frankie the fair
farm girl (but that idea was just put into her daddy's head by Andy)....and
of course we can't dismiss Rose, "even though she ran off and got
married".....just to name a few that come quickly to this chicken thief's
mind.
Harriet<<<<<
Harriet, good list...Thanks for playing. In addition, there was Mrs.
Mendlebright and her
scamming suitor. Charlene Darling and Andy. Earnest T and Charlene. Roger
(who Andy hates)
and Aunt Bee. The Manicurist and Andy. others???

I wasn't there, but since Live Saver man is so modest, I'll tell you what I
read. Howard
Morris apparently stumbled somewhere near the edge of the stage, and Allan
