Subject: you asked....

A while back someone asked if Andy was campaigning for any candidates this
years as he did 4 yrs. ago. Just in the last 2 days he has begun to be seen
in TV commercials for democratic candidate fo NC governor Mike Easley.
Remember you asked....

Subject: Steve Allen

Just a quick word to remember the legendary Steve Allen, who passed away this
week. While Allen was a talented and prolific man who did so much and
inspired so many, I wanted to point out what he did for us TAGS fans. For
one thing, he gave Andy Griffith his earliest TV exposure (the A&E Biography
on Andy shows one of those appearances). He is probably more remembered,
though, for giving careers to his variety show regulars--one of whom was the
multi-talented Don Knotts. When TAGS premiered in 1960 Knotts was not a
stranger to most viewers and Steve Allen was the reason. If you get a
chance to see any of Don's appearances on Steve Allen's variety show, you are
in for a treat...

That's her, all right. Actress Mary Lansing holds the record for playing
the most different female characters on TAGS (I counted them up once - there
were 11 or 12). She finally got the permanent part of Martha Clark during
the eighth season, and she continued the role on Mayberry RFD.

Subject: Prisoner of Love episode

I watched "Prisoner of Love" last night on TV Land, and I was wondering: was
the epilogue left off? Was there originally an epilogue at all? Because after
the last commercial, you saw Andy walking into the courthouse, thus catching
the female prisoner's attempted escape. This didn't seem "epilogueish" to me,
so I was wondering if they cut it out. Hope this makes sense!!

Hi Everyone, Welcome to all our new friends! You
will love coming home each day to wbmutbb. I remember
another time when Barney got so involved with what was
going on, on the show that he lost his adult
objectivity. Remember when Opie found the wallet
owned by Parnell Grigsby? Opie was looking at a toy
catalog and asked Barney to look at it with him and
they found a construction set, then Andy said he
remembered having one as a child. He went on to
describe it, and all the fun he had building a little
bridge for his trucks to cross over a little creek by
his house. Opie of course, was fascinated and he
asked his Pa if they could build one too, to which
Barney said to Andy: " Will you help us?" He was just
as excited as Opie was. Oh, what great memories.
Gotta Go! Everybody on the truck!!! Anita Carpenter

I found out today why the Nutty Professor is so nutty: He's the son of
Ernest T. Bass, so what could you expect! I think Jerry Lewis and Howard
Morris would pass for real kinfolks.

Subject: TAGS Family loses a friend--Steve Allen

Do you know who gave Don Knotts his first big break on television? If you
guessed Andy, that would be understandable, but actually if you said Steve
Allen you'd be correct. After a guest spot on the Gary Moore show, Don was
asked to perform his 'nervous character' routine on the Tonight Show, (then
hosted by Steve Allen) by Bill Dana, one of Allen's writers and a former
associate of Don's. He was then asked back for a second appearance by
Allen's associate producer. This led to Don's guest appearance on Steve
Allen's variety show "The Steve Allen Show" which was very popular. Don
related in his autobiography (Barney Fife and other Characters I have known)
"..Bill Dana called to tell me they were considering the possibility of
trying me out on the Man-on-the-Street segment. This was a running sketch
in which Steve would ask funny people their opinions on current topics in
the news....When the camera came up on me, I was shaking like a leaf. Steve
Allen asked "Are you nervous?" "Nope" I shot bag bugging my eyes, and the
house came down. The laugh was so big and so sudden, in fact, that it
startled me. The rest of the bit played beautifully , and I was asked to
come back the following week...They asked me back every week as it turned
out, for the remainder of the season" Don further relates how he was
given a three year contract to continue to work with Steve, and other
regulars such as Tom Poston and Louie Nye. During the shows heyday they
also had bigtime guest star such as Elvis Presley...and a fella named Andy
Griffith.

Subject: Will Clint be a Who?

Those of us who follow Ron Howard's films know that his brother Clint (No,
Thanks Leon) usually appears in them. With the upcoming release of "The
Grinch" I've been wondering what role Clint might play. Since we know thank
Jin Carey is the green guy, and Clint's not a dog...I've come to the obvious
conclusion that Clint must be a Who. living in Whoville. But who Who will
he be?

color
episodes that Emmett is on. She wasn't called by name, but I think that was
her. She
may have just been an extra at that time.<<

This actress I believed appeared on other episodes as well. She was the
store clerk in "the Bed Jacket" for sure. Seems like she was one of Bee's
friends in another one...perhaps the Indian Elixar tipsy ladies???
