Subject: Thanks, Allan, for keeping us on track!
I just wanted to say thanks to Allan for keeping us all on track
regarding the discussion of political issues. I love to talk politics as
much as (or maybe more so than) the next person, but Allan is right --
WBMUTBB? is strictly for TAGS matters. In fact, with all the turmoil on
the political scene, it's wonderful to have a haven from the election
talk. Besides, when we start referencing political labels, folks can get
their noses out of joint pretty easily, which is evident by the few
messages we had on the topic before Allan nipped it in the bud -- I could
visualize the writers sitting at their keyboards with their jaw muscles
workin'! Such comments (well meaning or not) serve to create division in
a forum like this, and that's not what we want in our little corner of
Mayberry. (Remember the episode "The Punch in the Nose"? That's just
the kind of thing we want to avoid!) So let's all be good sports (and
spare ourselves a lot of sore noses) by heeding Allan and sticking with
the one thing we can all rally around -- our common love of TAGS!

Subject: Ron Howard/Grinch movie
E! Entertainment Network aired a Behind the Scenes look last night at the
making of Ron Howard's latest movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Many of
the scenes capture interviews with Ron Howard or showing him directing
scenes. Ron's brother Clint (our beloeve
peanut-butter-and-jelly-sandwich-eating Leon) can be seen standing next to
Ron in full makeup as one of the residents of Whoville.
The hour-long segment will be rebroadcast, according to E!'s Web site, at
10 p.m. EST Tuesday, Nov. 14; at 11 a.m. Nov. 15; 3 p.m. Nov. 18; and 11
a.m. Nov. 19.
The movie itself is in theatres Friday, Nov. 17.

I am the one that originally sent the email about Andy doing the ad. I sure
am sorry that the topic of conversation ended up what it did. I simply was
telling everyone something new about Andy doing a commercial and I thought
his remark on "watching old reruns will let you know how quickly life can
pass you by" would be the topic of conversation. I should have never
mentioned what party he was plugging for. I guess I will know in the
future.
So, let's discuss his comment on life passing you by. Sounds like he watches
TAGS reruns. You know some stars say they don't watch it that much. What
do you guys know about Andy being a faithful watcher?

Bob,
Words well spoken about Allan and his dedication to the WBMUTBB..
Although I don't post much on WBMUTBB, you can bet that I read it EVERY
DAY! When Bob, KJ and Rudy and some of the other original Mayberryites
"discovered" each other in 1990 on Prodigy, it was a tremendous
reaffirmation that we were not alone in our dedication and love of TAGS.
I too, can remember first sharing my observations with others in the
group about "... what was Barney's middle name... where did Thelma Lou
work?..." 'Course back then, there weren't many (if any..) books about
TAGS until Jim Clark and others decided to put those observations into
print.
But the main thing I remember (and still cherish) are the friendships
that form from the common love of one of the best shows ever to be
written and broadcast on TV.
I first met Allan face-to-face (or viz-a-viz...) in Ohio for the 1993
Squad Car Rendevous. It was at that time that Deputy David Browning (and
others present) encouraged Allan to continue to emulate our favorite
"Clip Joint" barber and take his show on the road. What a time! It was
one of those times in your life when you didn't want the days to end and
we were all as close as we could ever get to living in Mayberry!
Over the past 10 years, Allan' enthusiasm and dedication to not only
WBMUTBB but the Mayberry website(s), has been undaunted. For those of
you who might be tempted to post a critical comment, take a minute and
ask youself the question "What would Andy do in this situation?"
Thanks for listening.... and hats off to Allan and his family for
keeping the spirit of Mayberry alive and well for all of us to enjoy.

There is a phrase I have heard several times over the past week on
television media. Every time I hear it, I think of dear Aunt Bee.
"The Will of the People". Remember when she was such a crusading candidate?
Her heart was in the right place, but she later supported Howard, whom she
thought was more capable. I wonder if all theses commentator got it from
Aunt Bee?
Thanks Allan for your calm wisdom and enforcement. There's and old
saying...and I think Andy Taylor would agree. Don't discuss Religion and
Politics with friends (kinda like Don't mess with the Ladies Auxiliary).
Our common bond is the Griffith show, but we have many differences in other
areas. Allen has done a wise thing by keeping us on the topic of that
common bond. You can't assume that because we share one interest, we will
share other interests.
Actually, there were at least four elections in Mayberry, but it was always
about the people and not the (I can't tell ya) party or the (I can't tell
ya) party. Ellie for Council, Aunt Bee vs. Howard Sprague for Council,
Barney vs. Andy for Sheriff, and Emmett vs. Sam Jones for Council. They
all seemed to have (I can't tell ya) sort of views. I think all of our
political feelings are running a little high this week. Prescription...Take
out a VHS tape of DVD with Andy Griffith episodes on it. Take two per day
with a cup of coffee, Andy's favorite drink, and get plenty of rest. (not
to offend any tea drinkers..or soda pop lovers, that's just my opinion)
I agree that it was great to hear indirectly from Allen Melvin. When I
first joined the Digest (about 3 years ago but happy anniversary to all your
niners) he was my first topic of trivia interest. I had been writing in to
Miss Crump's Blackboard, and was frustrated that my questions sometimes
didn't stay visible long enough to get an answer. I like this really like
this format (not that there's anything wrong with Bulletin Boards...To each
is own, ya know).
Finally, I'll say simply, if you have the urge to say something that might
offend others with different views NIP IT, NIP IT. NIP IT IN THE BUD!!!

Saturday was kind of a bleak and rainy day in Ohio, so to warm our
hearts & our spirits we watched The Andy Griffith Show Fandemonium
Marathon(a tape). We finished the evening off with " Return to Mayberry
" the 1986 Movie. In rewatching it I wasn't aware that Rance Howard
portrayed the minister who married Thelma Lou and Barney. Also a
question(????) when Barney was posting the warning sign for the monster
in Meyers Lake, he said it was posted by Richard Kelly(??) was that in
reference to Richard Kelly the author, maybe Harvey Bullock would know,
how about it Harvey. Anyway, Saturday was alot more fun with TAGS in
it.

Thank you, Allan, for repeating the "rules of the Digest". I hear enough
politics on the TV, radio, newspapers, etc. and enjoy coming to my little
corner of the Internet to escape all that.
Congratulations on nine years of WBMUTBB! When I think of all the work
you must put in on this, I am amazed. Although I have never spoken to
you one-on-one, I have seen you several times at the Mayberry Squad Car
Rendezvous in Troy, Ohio. You were even nice enough to pose in a picture
with my daughter...holding up her ponytail as if you were cutting it.
Thank you for all your work. We do appreciate it even if we don't say it
often enough.
Since I do not get TV Land (ARGHH!) my sister was kind enough to tape the
Andy Griffith Marathon over Labor Day for me. I just received the tapes
from her and I can't wait to begin watching. It was hard reading the
enthusiastic responses of the Labor Day Marathon when I couldn't even
watch it. Don't I have a nice sister?

Howdy to you and yours!
The highest regards to Allan for asking us to desist
in mentioning politics. Let's all just have a picnic

about this, or we'll have us a real situation on our
hands!

Hello all. I haven't posted anything in a while because I am ignorant. (not
dumb) So thanks to Allan for clearing up the situation about AOL 6.0. My
daughter downloaded it and I had been sending my replys to the Digest on it.
Now I understand why they didn't go through. Hope this one makes it.
I want to send my heartfelt appreciation to Allan for keeping the subject
matter of the Digest where it should be. Personally, I see and hear enough
about politics EVERYWHERE else and it is a joy to go to our little corner of
the world and discuss kerosene cucumbers, Andy's girlfriends, Opie's life
lessons, Aunt Bee's cooking skills and all the other wonderful things that we
all get from "TAGS". If we breathe, we see and hear political ponderings
whether we want to or not. But folks, we need to remember, we are a select
and special group and we can't get what we get from the Digest anywhere else!
So thanks to all of you out there who share your thoughts and observations
about the best show there ever was. It always makes my day to come here.
