There is one election day development that does bear mentioning here in the
digest. Joel Laird, the Calhoun County judge who ran for a seat on the
Alabama Supreme Court (and big TAGS fan who organized the Mayberry Reunion in
Birmingham), lost his bid for that seat. But he did pull in a respectable
45% of the vote statewide. Judge Laird is a friend of mine and I hope you
join me in wishing him the best in his future endeavors...

Hi, I just saw the last 20 mins. of the Mayberry Reunion on the learning
channel. The part I saw was great and I'd like to see the whole thing.
Does anybody know if they are planning on repeating that show? I assume
that it was made in the early 90's because Andy said the show has never been
off the air is over 30 years and we all know it's been over 40 years now.
Andy, Barney, Opie, Goober, Gomer, and Howard were all there and talking
about the show. They finished the show with Mayberry Union High. I love
watching anything on TAGS. I saw the show today about What's Your Hurry and
they had the NERVE to cut into the show to talk about the election and say
nothing! Of all the GAUL! At least they can't cut into TV Land and do
that. Long live TAGS. "Gomer get under there with them spiders and get to
work"

I'll second that Bob! and Happy Anniversary to the
BB!
I've only been a member for just a few months, but I
enjoy it immensely. And again thank you,Mr. Newsome,
for all the hard work and effort you put into the
BB!!!
A special thank you for trying to keep the political
rhetoric out! I for one (as I'm sure most members)
come to the BB for much the same reason why we watch
TAGS, to GET AWAY from all the AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and
ugly of the day.

<< I am the one that originally sent the email about Andy doing the ad. I
sure am sorry that the topic of conversation ended up what it did. I simply
was
telling everyone something new about Andy doing a commercial and I thought
his remark on "watching old reruns will let you know how quickly life can
pass you by" would be the topic of conversation.>>

In my opinion, Wendy, no apology is necessary. I think everyone who reads
this digest wants to know what the actors from our all-time favorite show are
up to, even if it involves their political activities. It's the later, more
political remarks that seem so out of place here. I respect and applaud
Allan's tireless efforts to keep this digest much like Mayberry itself: a
utopia where we can escape the other problems of the real world that so often
have people snapping at one another (like Andy, Opie and Aunt Bee did after
Gomer the houseguest made them lose so much sleep).

I posted quite awhile back that I often trade with people on the
videotape-trading circuit, getting classic TV shows on tape. That includes
TAGS, in some cases with the episode's original 1960s commercials and CBS
promos intact. Well, I got another set of those gems in the mail last week.
There were some interesting nuggets including a real shocker from 1968: Aunt
Bee admitting to Opie, in a Shake and Bake commercial, that she hasn't fried
chicken "in a month of Sundays"! LOL...that's like finding out Santa really
loads up his sleigh at Sears instead of his elves' workshop!

Another gem: the entire October 1960 series premiere, including the final
Sanka commercial in which Andy suggests to Opie that his parakeet probably
came back home to get some more Sanka coffee. You can actually see that one
at the TV Party website...

www.tvparty.com

Oh, one other tidbit: my friend that I traded with sent me a bonus...one of
the 1970s Bonanza Steakhouse commercials featuring Bob Denver as Gilligan and
Don Knotts as Barney Fife! Anyone remember those??

Dear Allan, Thank you so much for clearing up any
misunderstanding folks have had about politics on this
web-site. I visit each day to get away from all the
"news of the day" and step back to a gentler time,
when the most exciting event of the day was Malcom
Merriweather coming to town and riding his bike down
the wrong side of the street. Please keep up your
hard work and remember, there are lots of us who are
thrilled to be a part of this. Keep up the good
work!!! Gotta go Charlene is whipping me up a batch

As y'all know, I don't post much on here. I really enjoy reading what
everybody else posts though, especially when Mr. Bullock or one of our other
notable figures posts, so I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth on this
political issue Allan nipped in the bud: EMMETT CLARK FOR COUNCIL. LOL I
lost THAT election, huh? Really, thanks to Allan for keeping the digest
what it is, and congratulations on your anniversary, Allan and WBMUTBB. I
have been a member now since January 1997, and I don't know of anything I
enjoy more than coming to Mayberry every day to get away from the hustle and
bustle of everyday life, and all the problems we all have there. For all
of you who have never had the opportunity to meet Allan, you are missing a
real TREAT. Allan is a real PRINCE of a guy, and has a great family to boot.
Thanks to Jan for all she does to support Allan, too. What a GREAT
family.

We need to listen to Allan. I see a lot of comments I'd like to respond to.
A lot that I don't agree with. But, we're here in the hallow grounds of
Mayberry. We're lucky to be in America where we can have different beliefs. I
don't agree with my wife all the time but I love her anyway. Let's leave the
politics in Washington and just enjoy Mayberry. Allan, we're sorry we brought
the whole thing up. Concerning what we do about politics????NIP IT! NIP IT IN
THE BUD!

I think I can speak for Harvey in this instance. A while back, he told me
that he did indeed include the name in the script as a tribute to Richard
Kelly, author of the very first book about TAGS.

Hey Harvey, if you ever write another Mayberry script, I know another name
you could use!

Subject: HTML Email Problems FIXED

Hey Folks,

As most of you know, the WBMUTBB Digest can't handle HTML email (you
know, the kind with bold text and colored words and stuff).

The good folks at our host (http://www.1-host.com ) have worked with me
and I BELIEVE we've got that problem fixed!!! That means that folks on
AOL 6.0 will not have a problem sending email to the Digest and neither
with any of the rest of you (at least as far as HTML is concerned).

I'm still testing this and it'll be a day or so before I'm 100% sure
it's working the way I want it but this should be a big help to us
all!!! I know...I know...to the none "computer geek" out there, you
don't have any idea what I'm talking about and that's okay. Just know
that it will help you even without you knowing it. Ha ha....

Helloooooooooo Dolllllllllll,
It's been a while since I've posted , but me 'n' Daphne 'n' Skippy have been
busy havin' fun at the Kit Kat Klub in Mt. Pilot with Gomer and Goober.

I just wanted to share a couple unusual sightings pertaining to TAGS.

The first one was Andy wearing a tie with his sheriff's uniform in the
episode last week where the new regulations for height and weight for
deputies comes into effect. I also saw Andy a while back wearing his hat
in the episode where Malcolm Merryweather is visiting.

The second and more surprising is Aunt Bee smoking. Actually, its Frances
Bavier in her previous series from 1955 "Its A Great Life", where she plays
Amy (last name slips me). She comes down the stairs in the house all
decked out in evening wear (ala Aunt Bee) and she is holding a lit cigarette
in a foot long holder, and she actually INHALED!!!!

I also have a question regarding a picture on the calendar in Otis' cell.
To me it looks like a picture of Leon eating P.B. & J. with Jimmy the Goat
looking over his shoulder. The picture never really gets focused upon, so I
am guessing at this. Any other trained noticers regarding this?

TTFN,
FunGirl

I just wanted to say another big "THANK YOU!" to Allan, Jan and Adam, as
well as everyone else here at WBMUTBB for such a great "place" to forget
about what's going on out in the "real world", even if it's just for a
little while! Allan does a wonderful job keeping us on track, and Jan and
Adam do a good job at keeping Allan on track! ;-D Since Allan asked
about how long folks have been around here (seein' as it's the anniversary
and all), I thought I'd put my $.02 in and say that in early May, 1996 when
I joined there were 171 members! My how it's grown in just 4 1/2 years!
I'm looking forward to many more years of WBMUTBB and the Digest!
