Hey TAGS fans!

My second favorite show of all time is the Waltons. I love family oriented
shows and can watch them over and over again. I guess any other show that
might rank with it would also be Little House On The Prairie.

Another example of a reused plot is when Barney was singing in the choir.
>>>

This one was even reused in another TAGS episode!

See if this sounds familiar: Director John Masters is preparing for an
upcoming production, when suddenly one of the key performers is forced to
drop out. He gets very nervous, wondering who he can get as a replacement,
when suddenly a volunteer comes forth. Without even bothering to hold an
audition, he eagerly invites them to join the production, with disastrous
results. Then, instead of handling the situation himself, he makes ANDY
solve the problem.

What I just described is actually TWO different TAGS episodes: "Barney and
the Choir" and "The Pageant." While we're on the subject, as a music
director myself I must point out that John Masters displays extremely poor
judgment in selecting material. Why on Earth would he send away to New York
for an arrangement that featured a tenor soloist, when he KNEW that Barney
was the only tenor in the choir? What's worse, he doesn't seem to be able
to distinguish a tenor from a baritone (he asks Gomer, a baritone, to sing
the tenor solo. If he wanted a baritone, why didn't he just ask Andy to do
it in the first place?)

Subject: Mayberry Tribute Show

Saturday night was another outstanding evening with the Mayberry Tribute in
Danville, VA. With a smaller number of stars attending, each one had more
time on stage then at some of the others shows I've seen. Ronnie Schell and
Maggie Peterson-Mancuso, who traveled with her husband Gus, performed during
the first half and Jean Carson, Betty Lynn, and The Dillards finishing the
show. Everyone was available for autographs and Q&A after the show and each
star stayed until the very end before heading out to get dinner (Betty Lynn
said, "The rest of them are vegetarians, but I want a hamburger." Bless her
heart).

The Dillards' (less Rodney, but with Greg Bailey, who was in B'ham with
them) highlights included Maggie joining them to sing "There is a Time" and
the boys playing "Jingle Bells." Mitch said they were practicing in the
hotel the previous night trying to think of something new to play and Doug
suggested 'Jingle Bells'. They thought it was a crazy idea.... so they knew
they had to do it. It was a great version with Doug and Dean both doing
solos before Doug's banjo string broke.

I was fortunate to get to visit with Maggie's husband and jazz great, Gus
Mancuso after the show. He told me just last week, Fantasy Records called
and wants to re-release the two albums he's made on one CD ('Introducing Gus
Mancuso' and 'Music from New Faces'). I don't know when it will be
available, but if you enjoy jazz music, this should be a good CD to add to
your collection. He said Maggie is singing well and is interested in
recording some new material, so we might have something from her too!

A special thanks to WBMUTBB members Tim Hutcherson and all the Mayberry
Undercover Agents for helping put the show together, to Phil Fox for
bringing his squad car, and to Gary Wedemeyer for his technical support.
There was lots of effort put into making the event a success and they did a
great job in Danville.

p.s. I'll let Tim & Phil tell you about their new acting career!

I would have to say that the Waltons is another of my all time favorites
because of the values the children on it were taught by their parents,
as well as respect for their elders. One does not often see 3
generations living in homes today, as was the case on the Waltons, but
the sad fact is that in some cases, grandma, or grandpa is sent to live
in a nursing home. Granted in some cases, this is necessary, because of
health reasons, but I think us oldsters have a lot of wisdom which could
be shared with the younger generation.

In some of the barber shop scenes, Floyd has a poster on the wall that shows
several different styles of haircuts. What it is interesting to me, is that
in my hometown barber shop in Seminole, Oklahoma, our local barber had the
same poster up for years. I was wondering if any of you remember seeing that
poster in your barber shop from years gone by? I spent many hours looking at
that picture while I waited to get a haircut and when I see it in Floyd's, it
takes me back to a special time in my life, my childhood.

I'm with you Crystal! I enjoy lots of the old shows and a few of the new
ones but nothing compares to Mayberry. It's my port in the storm of
life, my comfort when falling asleep, my companion while doing household
chores. I'd vote for it to be on a station 24-7 and I'd probably be
tuned in 90% of the time, if I could keep the remote outta' my hubby's
hands. He's a fan but not a fanatic like me!!

#2 hey friends, lets honor our webmaster's/Editor & publisher's wish. The
only #2 that matters here is "Do not write anything on the walls, because
it takes a lot of work to scrub the writing off of walls".

The new Lost Episode is very close-- I'm being careful not to over-promote
here, but the new Fan Fiction story is just about ready. I'm currently
struggling with HTML formatting before I send it on to Allan for posting on
the Web. Just to inform those newer members, here's my philosophy on "Lost
Episodes". These are new original stories designed for fans familiar with
the show to imagine, through reading and visualizing what is happening on
the show. For it to be credible, I try to be true to the characters and
their relationships, as the show has displayed them. I also try not to mix
era's. For instance I would never have Helen in the same story as Peggy and
Ellie (wouldn't that be interesting though). Finally, I try to use some
familiar sets (locations) but also have the flexibility to create new
locations (which there will be in this one) I only re-use a few quotes for
effect, most text is original. As in the TAGS tradition, guest stars will
appear along with the regulars. A favorite tactic of mine is to try to fill
in gaps of things we would have like to have seen, rather than challenge
the brilliance of the familiar stories by writing something very
similar...and here's the best part...anybody can do this, so after you see a
few, put on your bucket and give it a think.

...or if you're one of those TAGS related poets..share your talent with us,
as someone did in the past week.

Subject: Barney's Little "Nips"

There was another time Barney enjoyed a little "Nip".
Remember when Jubal Foster accused Opie of burning his
barn down, and Andy went out to pay for the damages.
While Andy was arguing with Jubal about the total,
Barney sat down and picked up what he thought was a
dipper full of water. He tasted it a couple of times
before he got up and went over to Andy, who took one
look at Barney and knew he had had a "little nip".
Barney had to be helped to the squad care by Andy and
Jubal. I laugh my head off everyone time I hear
Barney try to interrupt Andy and Jubal by saying"
AAAANDY........OH! AAAAAAAAAAAANDY!" Absolutely
hilarious!!!!!! Anita

I was out of work with pneumonia the other day and watching TV. I happened to
have it on TVLand and Gomer came on. There are lots of actors who went from
TAGS to Gomer (and others associated with Danny Thomas). It's too long to go
into the plot here, but the "Prisoner of Love" was on. She gave Gomer a big
wet one. And I mean to tell you he kissed that girl right ON the mouth!!!!
