It appeared not only on thermometers, (like the one at the fillin' station on TAGS) but also on barn sides and tops by the thousands years ago. There were a few smokers on TAGS, but I don't recall anyone having a chew. Chuck - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get more from the Web. I always thought the character humor was very similar too. And need I point out Howard Morris directed a number of DVD episodes? I want to punch his lights out everytime he starts with Yeah, huh, yeah huh. Whoever said that is missing the point completely (besides that, you ought to be ashamed of yourself for talkin' ugly). Warren was SUPPOSED to be annoying; that's what made him funny. The reason the character never quite caught on was that the writers kept giving him "Barney Fife" material, and of course there's only one actor on Earth who could pull off that style of comedy. I suspect the reason many fans don't care for Warren is that they view him as some sort of "interloper" who somehow got Don Knotts kicked out of the cast. This of course is not true; Don Knotts chose to leave the show to pursue a movie career. Personally, I love Warren. His scenes with Goober and Floyd are priceless. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 07:29:55 -0600 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Teasing >>>From: Kail Tescar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ...Like none of the humor is mean spirited. I see so many shows that rely on put-downs. Characters making fun of each other and stuff. The closest thing we get to this on Tags is when Andy "picks" on Barney, but it always seems more good natured. >>> I'd like to add my three cents' worth here: Andy does tease Barney from time to time, but NEVER in public (except in "Andy Saves Barney's Morale," but that was different). Andy understands that Barney's fragile ego wouldn't be able to take the strain. When Andy pokes fun at Barney (and vice versa) we know they don't really mean it, which is why the comedy works. If we felt that they actually despised each other and did not enjoy working together, then the situation would degenerate into the "insult" type of humor seen on so many other shows. Did I give too much? I could ask 'em to give back two cents. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 08:51:10 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V2 #390 In a message dated 12/8/00 7:19:20 AM Central Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: << TV Land has been showing COLOR TAGS lately, and I hate it. To make matters worse, they have WARREN in them. >> Hey, let's play nice here! I for one like the color episodes...a lot of them, anyway. Granted, Warren was no Barney, but hey, those were some awfully big shoes to fill anyway. That'd be like Ralph Cramden getting a new best buddy downstairs or something. But still, there were a lot of really good, really funny and/or really touching color episodes. A few of my favorites include the one where Opie writes the report about the Battle of Mayberry; "Dinner at Eight", where Andy ends up eating an unending supply of spaghetti; a few of Barney's comeback episodes; the last appearance of the Darling family ("...waste of a perfectly good hoot owl..."); the last face-off between Ernest T. and Malcolm Merriwether; the one in which Howard Sprague goes to live on a tropical island (hilarious fantasy sequence in that one); the one in which Sam Jones successfully runs for the town council against Emmett (I saw that one the other night in Birmingham and was surprised at how good it turned out); and need I remind everyone?--the one in which our beloved Aunt Bee learns to fly... And oh yeah...when else can you spot Jack Nicholson and Teri Garr turning up in Mayberry??? Okay, this isn't the original TAGS, but Mayberry RFD, the farm that Sam lived on in Mayberry just happens to be the same one on Walton's mountain that the Walton clan lived in. I've always wanted a place like that myself, but have had to settle for subdivision life. The outside of the Walton house is the same as Sam Jones' house on the farm. One of my favorite color episodes of MRFD is when Goober, Howard, and Emmett talked Sam into letting them paint the outside of his house to save him some money. Emmett decided he was an expert on mixing paint but after they got through, the house was three different colors. They also got paint all over the window panes. Sam had to hire somebody to repaint. BTW - it WASN'T Newton Monroe. I just wanted to let everybody know that while I was checking out www.jimmy.org which is the official website of the Jimmy Stewart Museum, I came across an article about James Best and his wife visiting Jimmy's Museum this past summer and was given honors for appearing in 4 movies with him. If you log onto the website, click onto the August newsletter and the article is right at the top. Had I known about his appearance there, I would have gone up to see him, and asked about TAGS. (there is a time has always been my favorite dillards song and everytime we get to see maggie sing it with them it really is special.) after the show was a combined autograph session and question and answer with all the stars which everyone really enjoyed. we have a lifetime of stories and memories from this weekend and it's still hard for me to believe that we got to spend time with these wonderful stars both during the show and before and after it. i didn't think there was any way that i could become a bigger andy griffith show fan than i already was but after getting to hang out with these folks all weekend i'm even a bigger fan than i ever was! i've always told folks that i think the magic of the andy griffith show was in the people involved with it,both cast and crew, and this belief was confirmed last weekend. the magic is still there and i thank GOD for being able to be a part of it and hope to be able to do it again. also i would like to thank the promters, tim and michelle hilliard at dream promotions, for promoting this show and letting us be a part of it. their name is appropriate because they made our dreams come true and we look forward to working with them in the future! (they are big tags fans too so this was a dream come true for them also.) also thanks to gary wedomyer who came from kingsport tennessee to help out with the show in every way imaginable and to phil fox and his crew from charlotte,n.c who also helped out in every way possible. these guys proved what the mayberry spirit is all about and we look forward to hanging out with them again. and of course we have to thank jim clark who without his help we wouldn't have been able to put this show together. he's a "real prince of a fella!" sorry this posting has been so long but "im all keyed up!" lots of luck to you and yours, tim hutcherson-"the mayberry undercover agents"-tagsrwc-danville,va. p.s. anyone interested in donating to the "save the scobeys (promoters)" fund can come to our rummage sale. we will have coats imported all the way from richmond and also a lot of items that we don't really know what they are but if we did we'd have to charge $5 for them! ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V2 #391 ***************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ ************************************************** You must send your comments to the Digest from the address you used to join WBMUTBB or your message will not be posted.
