If I am not mistaken William Christopher also played the new doctor in town
who was so young no one quite trusted him. A funny scene was when the doctor
attempted to carve the meat at supper. If he can't use a carving knife how
could he use a scapel? Andy was all for giving the doctor the benefit of the
doubt until he discoverd Opie need his tonsils removed.
William Christopher was good in the role of Private Hummel on Gomer Pyle USMC.
Does anyone remember the hilarious scence when Gomer received his Marine
haircut?
AND TAKE THAT GUN OUTTA YOUR MOUTH!

Forgive me for breaking the rules here at "The Rock", I guess I get to bunk
with Otis upstairs!

Needless to say, this breaks Rule #2 all to pieces. Remember
Rule #1. Obey all rules.
Rule #2. Don't talk about things you DON'T like about Mayberry and the
folks that live there. There should be plenty of things that you DO like
that
folks can talk about. Keep things positive and folks will enjoy themselves
much more.

My second favorite - it was my favorite at the time -
differnt genre of show though - was Carol Burnett. That
show also had a cast of wonderful characters!
Red Skelton was great too!
Best of Luck to you and yours!

I can think of a few times when Barney takes a nip off the top of my head. If
I put in under a bucket I could probably think of a few more.
1. Otis puts hooch in the water cooler when the governor visits.
2. Barney takes a drink with Otis to cure his drinking and tapes he and Otis
singing.
3. The Darlings come to town to marry Andelina to Opie.
4. (of course) Jubel, Jubel, Jubel.
5. When Mrs. Mendlebright is about to get married.

Hey TAGS fans. Tell me how many movies we saw Howard McNear in. I can only
remember two, both Elvis movies. Blue Hawaii, and Follow That Dream. Are
there others?

Of course, the black and whites were my favorite, but I watched the episodes
last night and tonight of Andy & family in Hollywood, and they were
wonderful! The scene where Andy was calling Helen - remember when you felt
you had to yell during a long-distance call? And when they all had to be
put through by an operator? (Yes, I know, they featured that in the
black&whites, but still...). I loved the interaction between Andy &
Helen --- you know, he had prettier "love interests" but you BELIEVED Helen
& Andy. Know what I mean? Hmmm, I seem to have strayed from my point. I
think the reason we love the B&Ws so much is that they featured Andy &
Barney more, but Andy & Helen were wonderful, too. :)

Remember when everyone was talking about their favorite episodes? I think
my favorites were any of "Myers Lake" episodes. Remember "Barney & Helen's
day alone?" But I think maybe one reason why I love them so much is there
was a "Myers Lake" where I lived - we had all our family reunions there,
etc. So I was wondering, what about Mayberry reminds all of you most about
your home town? I had an uncle that reminded me of Floyd, and all the new
deputies were ALWAYS called Barney...

Hello from Danville. Just a note to thank some of the TAGS family for
their kindness to our 9 year old son who was in a automobile accident on
10-14-00. He is in bed with a broken leg and last week when Ronnie Schell
was in townhe called our son. Talk about brightening a little boy's day.
Ronnie graciously sent a autographed picture to jonathan as he was not able
to attend the show.
Also David "the Mayberry Deputy"Browning called Jonathan several days after
the accident and sent him a picture also. this really helped out as my
parents were in the same accident and i was with them in another hospital in
north carolina.
This just goes to show that TAGS people are special as i have always known.
thanks

I have an answer to the challenge about what product uses the tag line
"Treat Yourself to the Best". It's "Mail Pouch Tobacco".
>>>
>>>From: Bob Bravetti <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Paul, I couldn't believe you didn't know the phrase right away, as I've seen
many barn roofs in your state in the 60's and 70's that were largely painted
with Mail Pouch tabacoo signs on them.
>>>
That's correct, it was an advertisement for Mail Pouch Tobacco. (I was a
little kid in Kansas City in the 1970s -- not too many barns there!)
We don't ever see anybody using chewing tobacco on TAGS, but it is mentioned
in at least 4 episodes (actually, 3 of those times it was snuff, which may
or may not qualify as chewing tobacco). Strangely enough, it seems to be
only the WOMEN of Mayberry who buy it and/or use it!
A: In "Stranger in Town," we learn from Andy that Sarah, the telephone
operator takes a pinch of snuff now and then.
2: Frankie Flint buys some chewing tobacco from Walker's Drugstore in
"Ellie Saves a Female." She SAYS it's for her pa....
C: In "The Bookie Barber," when Barney dresses as a woman, "she" says "she"
has to sneak down to the gas station to take a pinch of snuff. That
daughter-in-law is such a beast! A BEAST is what she is.
IV: In "The Big House," while Gomer is maintaining blockhouse lookout (from
the courthouse roof) he sees Viola McConker take a dip of snuff out by her
barn.
On a related note, there's a spittoon in the courthouse in the opening scene
of "The Farmer Takes a Wife." It appears that Andy has filled it with sand,
and is using it as an ashtray.

Subject: Color v B/W
Good Morning Mayberry
I haven't writtin in quite a long time, but I do read.
I was reading the recent comments re the color
episodes and Warrent, etc and the thought that the
color episodes are so "different" and not as well
liked by many people. Personally, I really enjoy them
and found some to be really funn, such as Dinner at
Eight and "Aunt Bee learns to drive", "The female
lawyer when Andie gets his big sunburn by her pool",
Aunt Bee helping the Russians get leftovers from the
refrigerator in the big "Summit", just as examples.
I DO admit that they "seem to feel different" from the
B/W episodes - even those without Warren where Andie
seems so irritable. Now, I was wondering if that had
something to do with the fact that we had different
writers and directors than we had with the B/W
episodes? Or maybe not so much the writers as the
director who did most of the color episodes just
having different ideas of how he wanted it shot? I
mean couldn't that affect the shows a great deal -
rather than it just being that they were in color?
Many of the actors and characters are all the same,
tho the writers have given Andie an older more mature
"sense" about him and he seems much less playful in
his teasing etc of Aunt Bee and of course we KNOW he
must miss Barney and all the little good hearted jokes
he played on him. But, he is also older and Opie
becomes a teenager and scenarios do change as we all
get older. Maybe the new writers and the different
director saw the characters as older than in the
beginning, but if you look, you will see some very
funny scenes in those color episodes even tho we have
to miss Barney and Floyd. You can always turn off the
color and see how that makes the show appear, but I
enjoy the color and being fascinated with the outdoor
sets, I enjoyed seeing the buildings and exterior sets
in color.

and when I come back, I'm gonna KILL you!"

Hey Chuck, we never did see anyone take a pinch, but Sarah the operator was
vexed with that guy who wanted to make Mayberry his home town (can't
remember his name: Ed Sawyer?), because he knew that she did!

Howard Morris also appeared as the art dealer who was WAY too fond of his
wine on one episode. Rob & Laura had bought a picture which turned out to
be painted by Frank Sinatra.

Of course, Sarah used to sneak a pinch of snuff from time to time.
Wonder if it was Tube Rose, Black G, or some other brand?
