I watched the Mayberry Reunion on TLC for the first time the other night -
stumbled across it sort of by accident while "surfing". A question...Does
anyone know if this was once a longer program - say 90 minutes or two hours?
It seemed sort of choppy to me a couple of times. I truly enjoyed it and
wished I had been able to tape it.

I would have to agree that, when it comes to a lump in my throat, nothing
compares to the "Opie the Birdman" episode. My second place would be "Opies'
Ill-Gotten Gain", right at the end when Opie is running away until he can
give his Pa a reason to be proud of him again (after finding out Miss Crump
made a mitake by giving him an 'A' on hi report card, rather than the correct
grade of 'F'). Andy explains that he is proud of Opie, even if he didn't make
an 'A'.

I was a hero on death row as well as Barney being one too. The Andy Griffith
show was the most looked forward to show in the penitentiary. Every night
when I would into work the boys on death row always tried hard to stump me
with Andy trivia. I used to think I was pretty good until I ran into Paul
and Allan. It was always so much fun to be able to do my "Boys here at the
rock" impressions in a real penitentiary. Boy did I find out what a dummy I
really was. Now it is me and the youth pastor at our church with the
constant trivia challenge. I want to think Allan for giving me the most
enjoyable 15 minutes of my day when I come home and go into out little
Mayberry world. Thanks you all so much and Merry Christmas to all.

It's the best when you are in a group of people and someone within that
group knows what you are talking about. The two of you bust up laughing
and everyone else just looks at you like you're nuts. You two, of
course, know you are not. >>

You're so right. I used to be on a church staff with a music minister who
was as much a TAGS fan as me. We had a youth minister who couldn't sing
worth a lick -- not a lick! -- so whenever the staff quartet sang, we had to
give him the "sensitive" mike. It was a hoot!

seem nice and full?" I am a 36 year old man and that *still* brings a lump
to my throat! You know what else does it? The zoom in on the apple with
the
long peel, that the sleeping visitor is holding in the epilogue of "Man in a
 Hurry."
  >>
Both those scenes get me too. Plus, when they sing "Mayberry Union High" at
the end of "Class Reunion", when Andy says he doesn't believe in Mr. McBeevee
but he believes in Opie, and "Away in a Manger" in the Christmas episode.
I'm not ashamed to admit I'm just the sentimental sort (and also a 37 year
old guy!).

For me the funniest Barney episode involving a costume is when he is after
the
shoplifting crook in the store and is changing out of the dress on the
street.
Some man is watching him take the dress off and Barney in his priceless way
says something to the effect of "What's the matter, you never seen a man
take off a dress?"
That always just kills me when I see that episode.

Another funny prop, which isn't really Barney's but belongs to Asa is Asa's
gun.
But it winds up falling apart a lot in Barneys hands as well as Asa's.
Asa's admiration of Barneys immaculate bullet is pretty good too.

I must be mixing faces on this, but I could've sworn that Jack Burns was
one of the officers on "Sanford and son."

You're probably thinking of Officers Smith and Hopkins, aka Smitty and
Hoppy, played by Hal Williams and Howard Platt, respectively. As I recall,
Smitty was the white officer and Hoppy was the African-American, but maybe I
have it backwards. Anyway, the white cop's mannerisms were similar to
Warren's (overly serious and "by the book.") Perhaps Jack Burns may have
guest-starred in an episodes, but he wasn't a regular.

the name of the singer that sang my home town was keevey

the song.....

I'm pretty sure actor Jesse Pearson (Keevy) did his own singing in that
episode. Andy has a fine singing voice, but it's not quite as smooth as
Keevy's, whom I would categorize as a crooner.

I stood in line at the Post Office this morning with about 20 other people -
19 of us trying to mail packages. The 20th person was a sweet little lady
standing in front of me who walked past the stamp machine on her way in and
waited the same 20 minutes only to buy 3 stamps. As she walked away, I
smiled to myself and thought about Barney's quote: "I just don't think the
government should be transacting business through a slot machine!"

Some times life is just like TAGS (and you've got to like that).

Well, how many of you watched Dragnet over the weekend, and how many fellow
Mayberrians did you spot? I put in some time on a few episodes. The first
one I watched had ol' Jud (Burt Mustin) in it as a 91-year-old apartment
manager/retired detective who showed ol' Friday and Gannon a thing or two.
I also spotted our bookie barber in another episode as yet another apartment
manager. (By the way, why do they call 'em apartments when they're all
together?)

Good Morning Mayberry,
I was watching an episode the other day and have seen
it a gazillion times, but the first time I have ever
noticed this. I'm sure many of you have probably
already caught it. This was the episode where Andie
was approaching Floyd about sponsoring the upcoming
Founder's Day (the episode of the beauty contest where
Ellie gets so mad at Andie because he thinks she wants
him to choose her. Anyway, Andie is speaking to Floyd
and the mayor is in the barber chair with his face
covered initially and Andie begins saying things about
hoping the Mayor's wife doesn't ride out on the horse
again singing "all that opera stuff". The mayor sits
up and agrees with him and begins talking about how it
annoys him and if she does it again, he might just
"bust a gusset".....well, if you look when the mayor
is talking and you see Floyd staniding just behind him
in the camera, you will see that Floyd is mouthing the
Mayor's lines as the Mayor is saying them and has an
ever so slight smile on his face. I saw him do it
with several words the mayor was speaking. I have no
idea if this was planned or just a spontaneous thing
that the camera inadvertently picked up, but thought
I'd mention and see what anyone else thought about it
- - if anything.

Happy Holidays to all of you.....

"Darlene, the kitchen's right through there, if that's
what you're gropin' for".
"You oughta a least look at Mary Wiggins 'fore you
turn 'er down, Pa".

I would have to agree that the actor who played Keevey Hazelton did his own
singing. He was the same fellow that played Conrad Birdie in the movie Bye
Bye Birdie where he had to also do some singing. By the way, that's a great
old movie with lots of stars in it. Well worth watching if you've never
seen it before.

I'd like to begin by saying I always enjoyed Jack Burns & his run on
TAGS, Warren was an interesting & cooky character & fit right in. Jack
has starred in other things since TAGS including " Our Place " in 1967,
" Getting Together " with Bobby Sherman in 1971 in which he played a
policeman, Officer Rudy Colcheck, also he was the voice of Raplh the
father in " Wait Till Your Father Gets Home " in 1972 and a co-star on "
The Burns & Schreiber Comedy Hour " in 1973. Hats off to you Jack for a
fine contribution to comedy and TV.

Unless I've missed it, no one has mentioned Barney's pistol! The ol' Roscoe,
the steel blue persuader, you know the rest. All of the misfires, Barn
breaking the new glass window to the court house trying to stop Ernest T.

Let's face it - ANY prop that Don Knotts used was done so with hilarious
results!

TAGS fans,

In one of those "what if" questions we'll never know the answer to, I
wonder how Warren might have been received if he had not followed Barney so
closely--if he had been introduced a year later, for instance, instead of
the next fall? Timing can be everything on such a thing. Maybe then it
wouldn't have seemed so much like he was replacing Barney but was playing a
character all his own.

Hi all, just wanted to let everyone know that Ms. Perry will be released
from the hospital on Saturday if all continues to go well with her. She
will continue with home physical therapy. And some of y'all might have
seen were the tornado hit Tuscaloosa, Al. pretty hard, and you all know Ken
Junkin lives close to that area. But he is OK, I spoke with him on the
phone Sunday and he and all of his family are fine. At last count their
had been 12 killed. Please keep these family members in your prayers this
holiday season and continue to pray for Ms. Perry. I am still sending
cards, etc. to her.
May you all have a Merry & Blessed Christmas this year.
