I'm sure glad they provide couches and allow in-store browsing through the books, because I spent over a half hour looking at this one. I intend to buy it for *myself* one day! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and are going to have a Happy New Year. I just received one of the best Christmas presents of all time. It's Mayberry Memories by Ken Beck and Jim Clark. I can't wait to go through the book page by page. From what I can tell, it is very informative about the show. It looks like good reading! Let me know what you thing of the book. I am so sad to tell you that my father didn't make it through his crisis this morning and passed away My two sisters and my brother and I are trying to deal with this and help my mom through this bad time. Most of us are right here. My brother lives in Eastern PA and will be here tomorrow. My dad had one sister who lives near Nashville who will also be here before his memorial service on Friday. Dad was a real private person. He specifically didn't want a viewing or a funeral with a display or a casket. He will be cremated and we will have a service Friday evening for him at the local funeral home with a memory board of pictures that all of us kids picked out from our photos of him this afternoon. Thanks to all of you for being with me through this trying time Jeff Krentz BigHead in DeeTroit ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 07:42:15 -0500 From: "Dan Goodwin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayberry Memories I got Mayberry Memories for Christmas and for those of you who don't yet have it, you need to get it. Great, great book. The book is focused on behind the scenes stuff and I was tickled to find reference to everybody's favorite extra, Tom Jacobs. But even more interesting was a photo of the first season's production staff list. Down about 2/3rds of the way was Tom Jacobs listed as a stand-in. So, old Tom wasn't just an extra on the lot. dan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 08:08:10 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Marathon Hey Everybody: For those of you who have access to KTLA in Los Angeles, they are going to be running a marathon on Sunday, December 31, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (LA time). And--here's the best part--he was at his favorite hangout, a local dance. The movie was the 1945 version of "Christmas in Connecticut", and there was a local dance/fundraiser for War Bonds on Christmas night...as one of the characters surveyed the dance hall, Mr. Schwump can be seen briefly seated along the wall (no doubt with a bunch of slumped over teenage boys!). His appearance was very fleeting, but is was no doubt our man Schwump--looking about the same as his TAGS days, although the hair looked a little better (maybe it was still the original issue in 1945). Of course, there's no further clue to his identity, since he didn't have a speaking part, and didn't show up in the credits. Nonetheless, it made for an unexpected cup of Christmas Cheer to see Mr. S. Hope he had a glass of egg nog before the night was up! You didn't think Laura Lee Hobbs was gonna miss out on Christmas, did you? You Mayberry people are some of the most beautifully preserved people in the world. It was almost worth being sick to get all the fine cards and letters, and flowers, and I even got a gold truck out of the deal--yes, I did. Everything cheered me up and made me feel like a million dollars. There's no better people than Mayberry people. Only thing is I lost all my email that was written before November 20. According to my servicer, 487 emails came in on a couple of days and caused my account to over-flow and they "erased" all my mail up to Nov. 20. (Whatever they did with it, nothing shows on my computer any more.) Is this even legal? I appreciate all you taking up my duty as gold truck receiver--the weather has been miserable for such duty and it is generally a thankless job, but somebody has to do it. And I know you all did a fine job in my place. I appreciate it. I'm still pretty much confined to bed, but I have a big window from my bedroom, and my darling person fixed it up so I have a clear view of a road. It's a back road and maybe that's where I've gone wrong all these years. Those gold trucks just may get sneaky about how they come through town. Hope all of you had the best of holidays and will have a wonderfully happy and healthy 2001. The Good Lord bless you all. They have to go through TAGSRWC HQ and "snail mail" for POC information. To try to help them, and Jim C. out, I'm going to add email address POC's to the TAGSRWC Chapter List that we have online. http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/searchchapters.htm If you are the leader of a Chapter and would like to have you address listed so folks can contact you, please email me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) your Chapter name and the email address you'd like to use. You can also send me other information like any web site your chapter might have. Don't send me anything that you don't want me to give out to folks that ask. PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY....don't send your info to the Digest. Thanks!!! (AIT)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Pickups and Splashes from Floor and Pool Hello Mayberry friends. Its good to get back after some holiday travel and find the Digest here waiting for me like a faithful old dog. (Cmon Blue, Cmon..Let's go! Blue!, Blue c'mon)...and yet it's not the same ole Digest after all. because Allan is adding some nifty new features. The Archives is a great idea....that will save us some space, and make diggin out old references easier. I spotted a TAGS sighting recently, though I didn't see the whole show. Mayor Stoner was on Bewitched. He didn't mention how fishin' had been since he acquired Eagle-Eye Annie. Miss Poovey. What a lovely Christmas story. That incident, of course, is very reminiscent of Opie's Charity and the coat that he was saving for his girlfriend Charlotte(?). Your story would make a nice TV special. Thanks for sharing! Like other Mayberry lovers, I was blessed (by my wife) this Christmas with Mayberry Memories...the new latest craze for us fans who can't get enough stuff. Nice book. I did almost point right at it like a the bedjacket, by giving my wife Weaver's website and tellin'' her what I wanted....but she came through, and I didn't get any preserve jars. A few weeks back, someone mentioned a shop in Gatlinburg Tennessee that had lots of Mayberry memorabilia. My wife and I were there (Gatlinburg) back in October, and at her insistence, I obtained a truly unique Griffith item to display. They had a little photo shop that took my picture and super-imposed me onto a famous TAGS Photo of Andy, Barney, Opie and Gomer. Its the picture that's on the front of Ken Beck and Jim Clark's "the Andy Griffith Show Book" where Barney is holding a slingshot. There's one difference though. Instead Gomer under that oily hat it's me! Now nothing against ole Gomer...That was just the best way to fit my mug into a picture with Andy, Barney, and Opie. It's a classic and everyone that I've show it too is amazed, and they laugh. (maybe they think I'm a bit of a 'Gomer' with my passion for this show). For those of you who haven't got enough Christmas reading yet, may I suggest last year's Fan Fiction story "an Unforgettable Christmas". In no way does it come close to ole Ben Weaver singin' "Away in a Manger", along with Miss Ellie and the gang, but it is a truly unique holiday story featuring all your Mayberry friends. Just go to our Home Page and look for Fan Fiction just to the right and below Santa Barney. http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/index.htm. Best Wishes for a Happy New Year.
