Hi, Happy New Year everyone! Hope this hasn't been brought up too many times,
but has anybody noticed Otis being typecast as a drunk in other shows? I saw
him once on Little House On the Prairie, he played a drunken sheriff
(unfortunately a "bad" sheriff - he sold info on Pa to the bad guys for some
booze). I also saw him in another show where he played a likeable drunk.
Wonder if it bothered him - I know actors sometimes don't like being
typecasted. But this is not a breaking of rule #2, 'cuz Otis was always one
of my favorites - I loved it in Return to Mayberry when he was a new sober
Otis - still as cute as ever, though.
Any thoughts?

Subject: Mystery Lady
Okay, all you Mayberry people who received the "Mayberry Memories" book
for Christmas, I need your help. You know that Mystery Woman I've been
trying to identify for the longest? Well, her picture is on page 27,
right there with our beloved Johnny Coons.
She's the last person in line. It's a far-a-way photo, but close enough to
see her.
This lady appears in so many crowd scenes, you're sure to notice her from
now on. I mean, you name the crowd scene, and this lady is bound to
be in it.
But WHO is she? She was the lady Barney was going to write down as a
possible prospect as a wife for Andy until Thelma Lou said "She's married."
Right after she walked by, Barney saw Andy and Helen.
However, I don't recall that she was EVER in the choir, which strikes me
as rather odd since she was in most street scenes. I could be mistaken
about this. I've looked for her in the choir and I just don't recall
seeing her. (Whenever I bring up the Mystery Lady, I always get emails about
a woman in the choir. But the dark haired woman in the choir most of you are
thinking of, ain't who I'm thinking of, but thanks anyway. Your heart's in a
good place.)
I always kind of figured she's related some way to a crew member since she
never had a line and she's a very attractive woman. (I don't know why, but I
just assume writers and producers and camera people, etc. would have
beautiful wives and handsome husbands.) But this is pure
guess work on my part. Creative people marrying beautiful people.
The books says nothing about her. Wouldn't you just know it? So, I'm
counting on you good people. Any ideas?
Laura Lee Hobbs, dime store clerk & gold truck watcher extraordinaire

it really goes places." (I'm a lot like Emma. It's just that my pills
cost a lot more.)

Mike and everyone else. I have often wondered about the "Town or County
Sheriff" question too. One thing I can add,.. from working for a local
police dept. in a county seat, the jurisdiction question comes up a lot.
An arrest can be made outside our jurisdiction if the crime was committed
inside the city limits. So even if "Hubcaps" lived and operated in
another town or county outside Andy and Barn's jurisdiction,.. they could
still make the arrest because the crime (sell of the car) occurred in
MAYBERRY. Other agencies could have charges pending if the vehicles were
stolen from other towns or counties. Chuck

I think the "Little House" actress you have in mind is Lucy Lee Flippin (she
played Eliza Jane Wilder from 1979-1982), but I don't know if she ever
appeared on TAGS. I suppose it is barely possible, since most of the girls
in that TAGS episode were not credited, but keep in mind that the TAGS
episode in question was 16 years earlier. One of the girls was Janet Waldo,
who provided the voice of Judy Jetson (her line in the episode is, "What did
we turn out FOR?")

In "Class Reunion" the high school yearbook gives it as Milton; however, in
"A Plaque for Mayberry" Andy says to Barney, "I thought your middle name was
Oliver." Neither of those can be correct, because Barney calls himself
"Bernard P. Fife" ("A Deal is a Deal," "Opie's Ill-gotten Gain," et al).
Trivia time! What is Don Knotts' middle name?

Pauline, thanks for your kind words. And to everybody else, thanks for
your almost overwhelming response and support in our time of loss. I tried
to respond personally to everybody who wrote to me, and if I missed anyone
it wasn't an intentional thing.
I appreciate it.

Could someone give the web site info on the TAGS DVD's available? I must
have missed it. It's been crazy around here with all the funerals we had
and pets that died I haven't been on the computer I had about 3 weeks of
stuff in my email and deleted most of it. I would appreciate it. Thanks

Pam, the name was Bernard P. Fife from what I remember; however, remember
when they were planning that class reunion and Barney and Anj were looking in
the year book? The name for Barney was Bernard Milton Fife. Just a little
inconsistency that we aren't supposed to notice.

Regarding the episode "A Wife for Andy": If I'm not mistaken, one of the
girls in the group that arrived at Andy's house for "inspection" also
played Audrey on General Hospital.

I have seen Barneys name in 3 forms on tags Bernard P. Fife , Bernard Milton
Fife , and one episode Andy told Barney he thought his middle name was Oliver
when Barney tried to take credit for being an ancestor to war hero Nathan
Tibbs and called himself Bernard Tibbs Fife , turned out Otis was the Tibbs
decendent .

Hey Laura Lee, you know I think you have something here. Why couldnt we
just call good old Tom, Johnny again. It was a lot more fun when we would
talk about Johnny Coons and look for Johnny Coons in the various episodes.
Tom Jacobs sightings just dont have the same ring if ya know what I mean.
And like you said, he just dont have that Tom Jacobs face. Its much more of
a Johnny Coons face. It reminds me of one of Big Maudes alias being Ralph
Henderson. Even though she was rough, tough, grouf, loud and kinda bossy,
she just didnt have have that Ralph Henderson look. It was more of a Ralph
Cramden look I think.
O well its just a thought. And long Live the fabuleous, multi tallented and
almost famous Johnny Coons!!
I just hope Mr Schump never changes his name or gets a better hairpiece,
That would really hurt right Laura Lee?
