She was the pretty blonde who played the part of Lavinia in "A Wife For

<< Regarding the episode "A Wife for Andy": If I'm not mistaken, one of the
girls in the group that arrived at Andy's house for "inspection" also
played Audrey on General Hospital. >>

Also regarding this episode, someone in an earlier newsletter wondered, if
the girls were there as prospective brides for Andy, why didn't they even
glance at him as they came in the house? It didn't occur to me until later.
They didn't KNOW that's why they'd been called there! Barney told them it
was because Thelma Lou wanted to talk to them "on a matter of some
importance". Could this be the case?

BTW, hope nobody minds my answering the occasional post since I'm such a
newcomer to the group.

Thanks,

Yeah, that's right! I noticed that it was Audrey (real name - Rachel Ames).
Now
you all know my tv habits - innocent TAGS episodes with not-so-innocent
episodes of
General Hospital and Port Charles. But hey, it's kind of an inherited trait. I
started watching GH when I was a tiny little girl - I watched it with my mom.
Old
habits die hard!

It was mentioned here yesterday that someone thought
they saw Almanzo's sister from Little House on the
Prairie in this episode: I'm not sure if she was in
this episode, but Andy's first wife Barbara is one of
the girls Barney invited for Andy to look over. (She's
one of the tall brunette's) and take that gun out of
your mouth! Anita

For Paul's trivia question, I think Don Knotts' middle name is Donald. If I'm
not mistaken his "give" name is Jesse Donald Knotts, 'course Don is just a
nick for Donald.

Thank you for your reply, resident genius! I will check that episode again
sometime to see if I can get a closer look at Ms. Flippin(?). If that's not
who she is, do you think it's possible that she could be the sister of
Michael Gross, the guy who played the dad on "Family Ties"? I just know I
have seen that face somewhere before! If you figure it out before I do,
please let me know.
Thanks again!

Two things to report today:

1. Congrats to www.mayberry.com, which was chose by the web site
www.anythingsouthern.com as one of the Top 100 Southern Web Sites for 2000!
They ranked Mayberry right up there with sites on Elvis, Moon Pies, Coca-Cola
and NASCAR! It was a GREAT recognition! Way to go Allan!

2. Want to see Andy Griffith in a rare public appearance? He is scheduled to
read the North Carolina State Toast at 11 a.m. Saturday in Raleigh, during
the swearing-in ceremony of Governor-Elect Mike Easley. If you remember, Mr.
Griffith did commercials for Easley during the campaign season. More
information is available at www.ncinauguration2001.org.

Two bits of great news for Mayberry fans! What a great way to start out 2001!
Happy New Year, y'all!

In reference to Linda's question about Otis Typecasting in #3, one of the
other shows in which Hal played a drunk was the hilarious Don Knotts
classic, "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken". Of course that show, which Don
made shortly after leaving the show, featured lots of Mayberry alumi, and
if you didn't know better you would have thought it was set in Mayberry.
Hal appears in the very first scene, and plays a drunk who appears to
Don's character to have been a murder victim.

I don't know if Hal ever felt he was type cast as a drunk, but I think
it's ironic that one of his last roles was the venerable and highly
respected John Avery Whitaker on Focus on the Family's radio show for
kids, "Adventures In Odyssey." I had been listening to that show for a
while before I learned that it was "Otis" playing that character. It
took a LONG time for me to really believe it was him.

To Paul: I stand utterly shamed for my error! As many times as I have seen
your name here, I can't believe I spelled it incorrectly. If my mother were
here, she'd give me a good clout for that! As a school teacher, she detested
incorrect spelling. (For that matter, so do I). So please accept my apology.
Really, I'm not dumb, I'm just ignorant! If you don't believe me, cover up
the picture of that cat and just SEE if I still don't know the word!!
One more thing...do you think we could call them "Mr. Cookie Bar" points? I
hate brownies!

Are you all talking about the same woman who is looking for Elm City in
the convertible when they stop by Frank Meyers newly-fixed up house on
the outskirts of Mayberry? I've noticed that attractive lady in many
street scenes too. I believe she was also the lady who rushed to get
into her house when the boys were peddling Miracle Salve. It'd be nice
to know her name since we have seen her so often. Aunt Bee of Orlando

Otis does seem to get typecast. I just noticed him on another of my

a few drinks then too!
