I admit that the first few times I saw them I thought that it was kind of strange to see TAGS in color and I was not used to some of the new characters like Howard Sprague but after I watched them for awhile I love them. I remember the barn fire, so maybe it was a volenteer deal. If not I would like to be Fire Chief. Gil." As I recall (and I think it's been mentioned on the Digest before), in the episode "Andy Saves Gomer," Gomer mentions that they're having a boiled dinner down at the fire house. So Mayberry apparently did have a fire department. Janet ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! If so, I have a confession to make. Not only do we NOT have a 52" TV, we only have one TV in the house, and it has actual knobs and no remote. Normally the term is used in dressmaking or the like. Andy says to jazz trumpeter Phil Sunkel, "Phil, I know them furbelows is hard to do and I admire your ability to run 'em off like that, but we got to play it straight." In this context, Andy is using the term to mean improvisational embellishment, in other words, adding extra notes to a musical passage. I'm sort of drifitng here, but for them that don't know, Phil Sunkel was the name of a real trumpet player who was a friend of Aneta Corsaut's. Her real-life romantic interest, writer Jim Fritzell, worked the name into the script as sort of a tribute to him. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 08:36:40 -0600 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Barney's driving >>>From: "jason tomlin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> in answer to pauls' question about how many vehicles we see barney drive, i can think of: 1.the squad car, naturally 2.his car from mrs. lesch 3.cars when he visits from raleigh( don't remember if there was more than one or not) 4.the bicycle from steve quincy 5.the motorcycle 6.floyd's car( the escaped convict episode) paul, this is a tough one......how did i do? >>> Off to a good start! There are still at least two more. Your #3 answer refers to his Edsel convertible. Someone will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was a 1959 model, even though in the episode he calls it a '60 with a '61 grille. As far as I know, there were only three years for the Edsel, 1957 through 1959. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 08:38:00 -0600 From: "Paul Mulik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Andy's driving record >>>Hey, I thought of another one! In both episodes he drove Aunt Bee's convertible. Once is when he drove the car to Raleigh to meet a lady lawyer who had a pool and Andy got burnt to a crispy crunch. The other is where Andy drove her car to a father son get together at a very influential families house. It was when Opie met a boy at camp and became good friends with him. He was from a rich family and he came to Opies house and Aunt Bee served shrimp cocktail and other rich goodies for lunch to impress the boy. Anyway that is other times I remember Andy driving a car other than the squad car. The other day I seen Andy driving the squad car on a high speed chase to catch a lady speeding. She end up getting off the charge by smoozing the witnesses Barney, Floyd and Opie who saw the whole incident as they were putting their fishing rods and tackle in the back of the squad car after a morning of fishing.
