Howdy Beth,

How are ya' at pottin' petunias? I hear folks come from miles around just
to hear you TALK about pottin' petunias.

Thanks for the mention, but even to have my trivial triviality skills put
in the same sen-tence as Paul's makes me feel special sporty. I don't
deserve it, I'm not quite in Paul's league, but thank ya kindly.

Hello everyone
I havent posted in awhile but I want to say that I love the color episodes.
I admit that the first few times I saw them I thought that it was kind of
strange to see TAGS in color and I was not used to some of the new characters
like Howard Sprague but after I watched them for awhile I love them.

It's sad but TNAGS went over like a pregnant high-jumper. HOWEVER, does
anybody remember a show he did a little later? It was called,"The
Headmaster". He was the head of a small college and was married to Lee
Merriweather. Does anybody remember that?

As I recall (and I think it's been mentioned on the Digest before), in
the episode "Andy Saves Gomer," Gomer mentions that they're having a
boiled dinner down at the fire house. So Mayberry apparently did have a
fire department.

Linda, since you bring it up again, I'm just dying to ask -- how does one
turn off the color??? Is this an option available on the newer TV's? If
so, I have a confession to make. Not only do we NOT have a 52" TV, we
only have one TV in the house, and it has actual knobs and no remote.

Hey Jason...
Great recollection there! You did an impressive job with that list...but
wasn't the bicycle the property of Arnold Winkler? At least it was until his
dad took it and sold it and took Arnold out to the woodshed!
I could be remembering incorrectly here, but I don't think Steve Quincy had a
bicycle.

Can anyone tell me any more songs that Otis sung when he was "gassed?" I love
that singing! I know he sung, "The Old Gray Goose" or "Go Tell Aunt Rhodie"
and "I'm so Sorry I Broke your Heart Mother" and "The Dipsy Doodle." I'm not
sure if those are the titles or not. But I love it when he sings. I'm not
sure if he sung other songs or not.

>>>From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
What's a fur-below?
>>>

It's actually "furbelow," a term meaning to decorate with fancy ruffles or
trimming. Normally the term is used in dressmaking or the like.

Andy says to jazz trumpeter Phil Sunkel, "Phil, I know them furbelows is
hard to do and I admire your ability to run 'em off like that, but we got to
play it straight." In this context, Andy is using the term to mean
improvisational embellishment, in other words, adding extra notes to a
musical passage.

I'm sort of drifitng here, but for them that don't know, Phil Sunkel was the
name of a real trumpet player who was a friend of Aneta Corsaut's. Her
real-life romantic interest, writer Jim Fritzell, worked the name into the
script as sort of a tribute to him.

4.the bicycle from steve quincy

Off to a good start! There are still at least two more.

Your #3 answer refers to his Edsel convertible. Someone will hopefully
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was a 1959 model, even though in the
episode he calls it a '60 with a '61 grille. As far as I know, there were
only three years for the Edsel, 1957 through 1959.

I believe there were two reunion episodes; one in B&W and one in color.
The later was the one where the notion of a reunion was started by Andy
and Barney when they found the old high school stuff while going thru
his trunk. The second, color reunion episode was called (I think) "The
Return of Barney Fife" were sadly we learn that Thelma Lou has married.

Hey Everybody,

I know of two other episodes where Andy drove a car. In both episodes he
drove Aunt Bee's convertible. Once is when he drove the car to Raleigh to
meet a lady lawyer who had a pool and Andy got burnt to a crispy crunch. The
other is where Andy drove her car to a father son get together at a very
influential families house. It was when Opie met a boy at camp and became
good friends with him. He was from a rich family and he came to Opies house
and Aunt Bee served shrimp cocktail and other rich goodies for lunch to
impress the boy. Anyway that is other times I remember Andy driving a car
other than the squad car. The other day I seen Andy driving the squad car on
a high speed chase to catch a lady speeding. She end up getting off the
charge by smoozing the witnesses Barney, Floyd and Opie who saw the whole
incident as they were putting their fishing rods and tackle in the back of
the squad car after a morning of fishing.

Lots of luck to you and yours and Goober says hey,

I only got one reply to my trivia question about the percent sales tax in
Mayberry. You guessed it. Paul Mulik knew it! It's always hard to

episode where Goober rings up an electric blanket for $8.98 with 13 cents
tax while working at Weaver's Department Store.
