Well Z-man, this here is one'a those, what you might call, TAGS
inconsistencies that you might'a heard about. See, the fact is, Andy's
house seems to have changed addresses a few times over the run of the
show. Here are the addresses that I can recall that were mentioned for
the Taylor house:

A) 24 Elm Street - Mentioned by Barney when he tells Horton the Taylor's
address in "Jailbreak"
2) 332 Maple Road - Aunt Bee gave Col. Harvey this address in "Aunt Bee's
Medicine Man"
C) 14 Maple, "Right off Main Street" - Spoken by Andy himself, while
inviting Dr. Peterson to supper in "A New Doctor in Town"

Also, in "Barney's Sidecar", when Opie was burnin' their house number
right into the door frame with his wood burnin' set, Andy stopped him
before he got past the first number, which was "3". This seems to agree
with the address given by Aunt Bee in number 2) up there.

I'll see ya.
Doug "Rafe Hollister" Garretson
Col. Harvey: "Know what that means?"
Opie: (shakes his head)
Col. Harvey: "Nek-ku, Yattu-eh, Sho-sho-neh."
Opie: "WOW."

Hey gang!
How's it going out there. Hey, ya know, we're all nuts when it comes
to TAGS, but here's something REALLY nutty.
This may sound crazy...but hopefully there's someone else out there like me.
Has anyone else ever like...been able to memorize the "Laugh Tracks" that
were used during the shows. (I'm specifically talking about the black and
white
                                              ones by the way)
But no like...over the years, i'm now able to watch an episode, and when I
hear a laugh track, I can sometimes tell you ANOTHER episode that uses that
same laugh track.
The most famous one is a women going "Oh ho ho!" They use that one a lot!
Well,,,anyway..just a little "technical tidbit" I thought I'd share.
Lots of luck to you and yours!

That's because Roddy McDowell played Ben Whitledge only in the Broadway
production of the show. He didn't appear in the film version.

As near as I can tell, there are several different manufacturers of the Blue
Willow pattern. At one point, I did on online search for the pattern and
found several options. Believe it or not, I am using the Blue Willow
pattern here in Lagos, Nigeria! When I arrived for this overseas posting
last year, I had to purchase all of my household items here. I couldn't
believe it - down at the good ol' Cash 'n' Carry, I found it! Now, I have a
service for 16! The company that made mine is Royal Wessex from England.
Check out the internet - I bet you'll find something there!

You Wrote: The post of the actors in No Time for Sargents. I love that movie
but do not recall Roddy McDowell as Ben Whitledge. It's been awhile since
I've seen it so I could be wrong, but personally I never cared for McDowell
as an
actor and just think I would remember him if it was since Whitledge was one
of the main characters. Put those buckets on your heads and let me know what
you think. Lots of Luck to you and your. Cathy a.k.a Skippy one of
Mayberry's fun girls at [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

Actually, what I wrote was : "Finally, Ben Whitledge was portrayed in the
play by Roddy McDowall, better known to most for his roles on The Planet Of
The Apes." See, in the play Roddy was Ben. Nick Adams played Ben in the
movie.

Doug,
That was completely my fault about forgetting to
put the ".html" on the end. I use to have it on there
when I first started putting the signature on my
e-mail, but I changed it a while back and forgot to
add it again. I messed up.

Thanks,
Brian

>>>... The name showing on the paper is the "Airy News", which I assume to
be part of the real life newspaper, "The Mt. Airy News". Now, I know that
Mt. Airy, Andy Griffith's hometown, was the basis for Mayberry, but was Mt.
Airy ever actually mentioned on TAGS?

No, but the Mt. Airy News is seen in other episodes too, such as "Howard the
Comedian."

I recall here while back somebody askin if anyone knew about the Darlings'
truck. I assume it was a ford, since they had the contract, but does anyone
know anything else about it? What year, model, color, details? I was just
looking at some pictures of restored patrol cars, and thought I might try to
restore a Darlings' truck (or maybe unrestore it...at least the radiator!).
HAs anyone else done this? Can anyone help?

In reading Chip's post about the books making him realize that Mayberry
isn't real, I got to thinking about one of my favorite hobbies - imagining
what's actually going on when the scene is shot. There are some well known
pictures from The Jinx. The 3 guys are sitting in a boat fishing in the
shot. But they're actually only about 10 ft off shore with another boat
close by, about 15 people standing around, a truck and all sorts of
equipment. I like to do the same thing with scary pictures, you know when
its dark, the girl hears something and looks right at the camera with that
horrified look. I just want to holler "What are you scared of, you're
looking right at 27 people!"

The picture business is a hoot.

I b'lieve that there were actually three different addresses given.
If that's correct, I'll let someone else tell what they were.

For those of you interested in the Blue Willow dishes, I have some great
news.
Blue Willow is manufactured by Johnson Bros. and is available on the Internet.
Go to BettyCrocker.com and type in Johnson Bros. under "search."
All pieces are available, and even sold "open stock" meaning you can buy just
one piece. They have a great selection. I collect Johnson Bros. china, and
I
can vouch for the superior quality. Betty Crocker offers this pattern at a
very reasonable price, much less expensive than in a china shop.

~Eileen~

PS All this talk about Aunt Bee's dishes has made me a little hungry.
Think I will make some of Betty's Cheese Wafers. MMMmmm!

Subject: Barney's Driving

I can't remember if this one was mentioned or not, but
Barney has also driven Floyd's car in the Convicts at
Large episode. I believe Barney is sitting there
trying to get the car started asking why didn't Floyd
put gas in his car before they left. And Floyd was
sitting there telling Barney it's his fault they ran
out of gas because it was his idea to take a
"shortcut".

Also, on a funnier note, Barney also "drives" a model
car when he is going to give Otis his driver's test.

Subject: trivia answer

hey folks-last weekend i asked the question of what 3 songs (from about the
period of the civil war) were played while andy and barney were pulling the
cannon around town trying to sell it. there were some good tries but no
correct answers. the answer is : "the girl i left behind me","kingdom
coming",and "when johnny comes marching home." some of these songs actually
date back farther than the civil war but were very popular in that time
period. don good correctly pointed out that "eatin' goober peas",which
ernest t. bass offered to render, was also a civil war period song. a few
others heard in the show were:"flow gently sweet afton" sung by josephine
pike, and "believe me of all those endearing young charms" sung by rafe
hollister. while talking about music from the show there was an occasion,in
the "crime-free mayberry" episode where andy played "john henry" for otis
and then offered to play "the wreck of the old 97" for barney. this old
folk song is of special interest to us here in danville,va. because the
wreck of the old 97 actually happened here in danville. they are planning on
building a wreck of the old 97 museum here too. it's too bad andy never got
around to playing that tune in the episode.however, it was played by flatt &
scruggs on an episode of "the beverly hillbillies". i think we'd all agree
that the combo of andy griffith and earle hagen made the music of mayberry
the best ever on t.v.---tim hutcherson "the mayberry undercover
agents"-tagsrwc,danville,va.
