Boy .. it sure was lonesome here all day without the usual TAGS marathon!
Amazing how you get used to something, even if it only happens once a year!

But, in memoriam of days gone by .. here's the recipe for Charlene's Hoot Owl
Pie .. it's the closest thing I could find that resembles a RAVEN!

Butter up a casserole dish
Take a 28 oz can of hominy and drain all the liquid off. Put a layer of
hominy in the bottom of the dish, and top it with a layer of cooked hoot owl,
boned and diced (tastes like chicken, doesn't it?)
Repeat the layers a couple of times, until you've used up all the hominy and
hoot owl.

In a saucepan, heat up 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 4 tablespoons of milk
(don't hit Briscoe with that spoon!), and a bit of salt and pepper, to taste.
Don't boil this mixture, just heat it through.

Pour the soup mixture over the hootowl and hominy, and sprinkle about 1/4 cup
of bread crumbs over the top. Dot it with butter and sprinkle with paprika
(a secret ingredient!)

Bake in a 375 oven for 30 minutes

This is also good with young possum or lean pork!

Enjoy your week!

Subject: in praise of color TAGS

How refreshing it is to read so many appreciative comments about the color
episodes of TAGS.

Granted, there was a special chemistry between Andy and Barney that was lost
once Don Knotts left the show after season five -- as well as the loss of
the rustic, timeless atmosphere of the black-and-white episodes -- but I've
always held the three color seasons in high regard, and am happy to read so
many comments supporting them.

And to those of you lamenting the absence of the black-and-white TAGS and
Barney Fife on TV Land, remember, they'll cycle back into play before you
know it.

If you all want to see one of those old refrigerators with the "hat" on
top in person, visit the Carousel of Progress attraction here at Disney
World; there's one in the 1920s kitchen scene! Aunt Bee of Orlando

As a musician, fan and collector, my FAVORITE color episode is the one where
Opie joins a rock band. I saw it the other night. What is the name of the
band?

The groovy band is known as "The Sound Committee." Their first gig (with
Opie, at least) was Brenda Roach's birthday party. Cool, man!

Subject: Pray for the Wildcats

Since many of you have probably never seen the movie "Pray for the
Wildcats," I thought I would throw in my three cents' worth (if that's too
much, I can ask 'em to give back two cents).

I saw this film once (that was enough) several years ago, and it was so bad
it was almost comical. Andy Griffith's performance was not too bad, but a
number of other factors added up to produce a real stinker of a movie. The
film also starred Robert Reed (dad of the Brady Bunch), William Shatner. My
impression is that all three of them took the parts in this film as a way of
getting away from their "good guy" personas (in addition, Shatner and
Griffith were having a tough time getting work in 1974).

I don't think this movie was ever released on video, but it might turn up on
cable once in a while. A humorous critique can be found at The Internet
Movie Database (www.imdb.com) but if you do plan to see the film, don't read
this review because it gives away the ending.

Count me among those who's thrilled to hear of the Mayberry Diner in
Denver. I grew up in that bigger town of Hickory and made the trip
to Charlotte up highway 16 many times. Even know where Cat Square is
(remember the Cat Square Grand Ol' Opry). Also, Lowesville, Iron
Station, Balls Creek,.......

So who operates it? Maybe they'd be interested in our little corner
of the internet.

Hiddy All!

Well, it's been awhile since my last post, but I do read faithfully!
Welcome to all the new neighbors! This is a great site and we're a very
loving, close knit family here!

This mainly concerns all of you in the Mid South, Memphis, TN, viewing area.
For at least the last four years, ch. 30 (WLMT) has run Andy at 10:00 P.M.
M-Saturday evenings and it has been my nightly ritual. For the past two
weeks, they've moved Blind Date from 9:30 P.M. into Andy's 10:00 P.M. spot
and I can't find it elsewhere in the line up.

My next step is to contact Ch. 30 to voice my outrage at their programming
change! I hope you will join me. It's Ch. 30, WLMT, 2701 Union Ave. Ext.,
Memphis, TN 38112 (901) 323-2430.

I know there are people in this viewing area here in Mayberry besides me. I
do have TV Land, so I know I am more fortuate than some here, but this has
really thrown a kink into my days.

Please help! And have a Mayberry Day!

Thanks to all who replied to my question about the refrigerator. I would
have never guessed that the strange looking object would be the compressor.
Special thanks to WilburD for the comment about my age. Guess I am a young
"40" if you count how I behave sometimes.
I was wondering if anyone in the digest has the print that the Taylors
have hanging in their living room. It is usually over the fireplace although
I have noticed it in the dining area. It is titled "The Angelus" in Weaver's
online store. I purchased this picture from the Home Interior Co. 20 yrs ago
because I loved it so much. Little did I know that I would come to love it
even more because of the connection it has with TAGS. Just wondering if
anyone else has the print? When I purchased it, it was titled "God's Good
Earth". I would love to hear any comments or history on the pic from fellow
TAGS fans.

Let's everyone "keep a good thought".

I was watching "THE SUMMIT " episode tonight and Andy told Barney he only
had 4 bedrooms and 11/2 baths . In the epsode where Ollie and Nora came to
visit the Taylors must of had only 3 bedrooms as Andy and Ollie shared a
room ,Aunt Bea and Nora shared a room ,and Opie and the boys shared one. In
''MAN IN A HURRY '' Opie was going to sleep on the ironing board so Mr.
Tucker could have his room . When Goomer got fired he stayed with the Taylors
and had the 4th bedroom as did Barney when he came back to Mayberry for his
visit .I guess inconsistences are fun to spot .
