Paul,
Thanks for the information on the "Wildcats" movie. I saw it so long ago
that I had forgotten many of the details and interestingn data . You
must be a fountain of knowledge. What area are you from? I am in the
cold Buffalo, N.Y. area. Occupation is professional Magician, so you can
see why I love any long forgotten knowledge. Thanks again.

Hey Ya'll, I noticed something eles in last nights
episoide "The Summit", when Barney called FBI
headquarters from the old mans house, he picked up the
phone and said "operator", later when Andy made a call
to Raleigh, he picked up the phone and just said
something like "give me police headquarters in
Raleigh", the point, neither one mentions Sara, I know
poor ole Sara has to have a day off once and a while,
but Andy and Barn did not seem very personable with
this operator, I would think that even if this person
was just Sara's relief help, Andy would know her,
reckon Mayberry had gone high tech by then?

How many have now had the chance to see Cast Away with Tom Hanks? Gret movie!
At the beginning, a FedEx pickup is made of a package, in Texas, at a place
with a metal sign over the entrance which reads "Dick & Bettina". TAGS
connection?
I won't tell you what was in the package, but it did contirbute greatly to
the survival of Hanks on the island.
Just thought it interesting that Dick and Bettina had made their way into
this movie!

I was watching the episode where Otis buys a car t'other night and noticed
an interesting paradox. In the scene where Andy and Barney go over to
Charlie Varney's house to investigate their suspicions about the imbibing
that was going on inside there is a building in the background that appears
to have windows that are typical of a church. This would put the church
directly across the street from Charlie Varney's house. Wonder if Charlie
ever went?

I hope I'm not breaking any rules here but I want to give an amazing
testimonial for a piece of Mayberry merchandise. I have one of those
acrylic 3D magnets of Aunt Bee on the exhaust hood over my stove and
something higher up fell and knocked it into a kettle of hot oil. Well I
fished it out and washed it and it looks fine! Not that I recommend
trying this as an experiment to relieve boredom but it's nice to know
what fine quality stuff Mr. Weaver sells!!! Cooking back to normal,

Like all the interesting comments regarding the colored shows... I agree
with most things said in both the positive and negative light... I do know
that it won't be long until the black and whites cycle back around...
Having the colored ones on doesn't keep me from watching right now... Last
night I was watching the one where Andy and Goober go to the auto show...
Towards the end of the show after Andy has bought his bottle of "pop" and
notices Goober's friend working on the car - he goes to get Goober and
passing by on the street was a Coors beer truck !!!!! Couldn't believe I
had never seen that before.... Not sure Coors beer was is"Raleigh" back in
the 60's, but I'm sure it was in California where the shows were filmed...
Just a little side note...
Have a great week,

I have "Pray for the Wildcats" recorded, and it is really hard to see Andy
playing a bad guy. But I think he's even worse in "Murder in Coweta County"
where he looks more like Ben Matlock. I think he was Ben's nemesis/alter ego
in that one! I also do have a copy of "Angel in My Pocket", recorded off of a
satellite. BTW, I love the color episodes, I am so glad to get to see them as
they are not usually aired.

Hey David..tell us you sent the letter by mistake? If not, then who the heck
is Nancy, Ruth, Pattie, and Lauren? Don't mean to be one of those funny
jokesters..but it was quite funny. Think I'll go down to the hospital and
take the bolts out of the wheelchairs. Now that's a riot!

P.S. Hope you know this is all in Mayberry fun. Lots of luck to you and

<Granted, there was a special chemistry between Andy and Barney that
was lost once Don Knotts left the show after season five -- as well
as the loss of the rustic, timeless atmosphere of the black-and-white
episodes -- but I've always held the three color seasons in high regard, and
am happy to read so many comments supporting them.>

I just wanted to mention that there were also some great B&W episodes
without Barney - maybe it just didn't seen as obvious since he was
just gone for one episode every now and then. Some that come to mind
are: Goober Takes a Car Apart, Floyd the Gay Deceiver, and Opie's
Charity. I love Barn but these featured some of the other people and
gave them a chance to shine a little more.

BTW - I think Howard was cool - in a nerdish kinda way...
(Nerdish?? Sounds like one of them travelin religions!!)

Being from Southern California, I couldn't help but recognize the local
terrain in the episode where Aunt Bee goes flying. The aerial shots of
farmland in a desert-like valley, and even the little airport with its
surrounding houses looked very Californian. Do these locations look odd to
those of you who are from NC?

Seeing Aunt Bee in a little plane like that sure modernizes the episode,
doesn't it?

The music of TAGS is especially appealing to me. I just love it when Barn
sings to Juanita on the phone and Andy jumps in and sends him into a
tizzy(you beat everything, you know that?)! From "The ballad of Barney Fife",
to the bandshell concert that never happened,(might be spiders under there),
to Barney shimmy-dancing at Jim Lindsey's audition, the songs of Mayberry are
some of the richest and most well remembered parts of the series.Wo could
forget a tipsy-from Indian Elixer Aunt Bee spinning around at the piano and
singing"Toot Toot Tootsie" with the girls during the Ladies Auxillary
meeting; or the chorus episodes involving Gomer or Rafe Hollister, or
Barney's desire to emulate Leonard Blush after the teachings of Elenora
Poultice(Just keep on flippin those burgers,Al)?? I could go on for hours.
Best to You and Yours Jubal Foster
P.S. How about those great background tunes("The Lawman Theme, or Mayberry
R.F.D.,for example.)
P.P.S. I saw old Jud(Bert Mustin) in an old Humphrey Bogart movie on AMC the
other night. Not only was he not disturbin' the peace, he was on for maybe 25
seconds and didnt say a word! He played a a bank security guard, further
enhancing the Jud-Asa confusion.

Glad to hear some support for those out there who like the color
episodes...without Barney it ain't the same, but there are some great color
episodes...Dinner at Eight, The Wedding, Floyd's Barbershop for sale,
Mayberry Hosts a Summit Meeting...just to name a few. I particularly enjoy
Floyd's "post-stroke" mannerisms and reactions. I would love to have seen
an interview with Howard McNear from that time, since everyone with the show
said he was the same in or out of his Floyd character.

Don't want to start a moulage here, but I would never think of turning off
the color in watching the color episodes...it's a treat to see Mayberry and
its citizens in color, and I wouldn't even mind watching some "colorized"
black & white episodes (if it's done right so Aunt Bee doesn't have green
hair!). Don't get me wrong...I enjoy B&W TAGS and don't feel like I'm
missing anything, but color TAGS (and color Dick Van Dyke) would be fun!
