The birthday boy (now 30) received a card that said "We hope your day is nice. Barney likes lots of fun, a big smile, 1 bullet and girls to dance with. Happy Birthday." Not great poetry but I thought, "Andy is everywhere." Not too long ago I was watching "It's a Wonderful Life" with my 4 year old son. When George Bailey runs through town yelling, "Merry Christmas" my son said look it's Andy. I was watching Andy this morning. The show about the cannon. I have a question: The man who played Mr. Mason, the antiques dealer, is he the same guy who played one of Molly Ringwald's grandfathers on the movie "Sixteen Candles"? Her character's name in that episode was Doris; she was Sam Jones' girlfriend. Strangely, she was never seen or mentioned again. In most episodes of Mayberry RFD, Millie (Howard's former main event) was Sam's girlfriend. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 13:19:34 -0800 (PST) From: Rafe Hollister <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Tom Jacobs and Friends > Man 1= Stanley Farrar > Man 2= Johnny Coons > Man= Tom Jacobs > > Which is which??????? The only one I know for sure, Maria, is that Tom Jacobs is "Man", the one who had the line, "How did they do it, Sheriff?" It is my belief that there is a missing scene from "Goober Takes a Car Apart". This scene would have shown both Man#1 and Man#2 (with dialog), along with either Andy or Goober (or both), but for some reason that scene was cut. The reason I say this is because Stanley Farrar is a known TAGS actor. He played in "One-Punch Opie" as Mr. Foley (the one who came into the courthouse complaining about getting hit with his own tomatoes by those boys). He also played one of the pickle contest judges in "The Pickle Story", and Ray, the jeweler who talked with Barney about the design of his medal in "Crime-Free Mayberry". And as far as I can tell, that actor is NOT in that crowd scene in front of the courthouse. As for Johnny Coons, he is an unknown. For years, folks 'round these parts thought Johnny Coons was "Man" (the one with the line), but George "Goober" Lindsey set us straight, identifying the actor as Tom Jacobs, brother of Danny Thomas. For now, nobody knows WHO Johnny Coons is. I hope this helps you out a little. I'll see ya. Doug "Rafe Hollister" Garretson "Well, what do YOU think?" "Kerosene?" "Exactly." ------------------------------ Date: 5 Feb 2001 20:01:43 EST From: SANDRA SILS <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Phew! Phew! Am I glad the B&W's are back on. I was going through withdrawal. The colors are okay, but not the same. "Subject: spotted "Charlene" playing somebody else Were my eyes deceiving me or was our dear Charlene playing another girl on Friday's color episode about Goober having used a dating "service" to find a girl friend/date?" Yes, that was Dud's darlin' person. She was playing someone named Doris. The black and whte episodes are back, the black and white episodes are back!!! Woooo-hooooo!!! I love "The Manhunt"... it has some really great lines in it! Like where Barney is trying to get Otis to spend just one more night in jail to impress the state troopers, when Otis replies "Cain't..got choir practice tonight!" Or when Andy finds Barney hog-tied by the "is-cape-ee" and he asks Barney if the man is armed and Barn sez "He is now!" Or when Andy 10-4's the state trooper and sez "It sure feels good to get that 10-4 in first!" I enjoy watching Andy, any Andy but I gotta admit it is good to see the B/W episodes again. But answer me one thing...is it wrong for me to wish I could be frisked by Barney? ;-) ~misspoovey, who's gonna go eat some of Aunt Bee's supper before I go traipsing off on a groovy manhunt~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2001 01:20:06 -0000 From: "Charlie Brakefield" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Trivia Question Answer <Aunt Bee wears glasses while she's mending on the porch and talking to Andy and Opie on the espisode called "Mayberry Goes Bankrupt." Andy and Opie and Aunt Bee are having a discussion about poor Frank Myers, who must be evicted because he hasn't paid his back taxes.> Hey Ellen - You got it! I saw that episode a few days ago and that's the first time I ever noticed she was wearing glasses. Hey folks, I wanted to pass this note along to you all about the changes coming up with The Bullet. Here's a note from Jim Clark to let you know what's going on. - --Allan Subject: Bullet Ending From: TAGSRWC Headquarters in Nashville Allan -- I appreciate the very nice comments made by Gary and Tim on the Digest about The Bullet ending in April. Judging from the calls, letters, and e-mails I've received about the Bullet ending, apparently a lot of folks mistakenly think that either my involvement with TAGSRWC or the entire club itself is ending. Not at all. Maybe you can clarify for folks that it's only the printed Bullet that's ending. An online version of The Bullet will take the place of the printed Bullet (and a greatly simplified printed flier of some will be available for those fans who are not online, but who want to stay informed). The plan is that the savings in time and expenses will enable the club to do more to support chapters, events, and other club activities. The fact is that, after 19 years of doing The Bullet (and loving it), the communications needs of the club have changed, largely because of the Internet and the fact that we have 1150 chapters. We're just changing where we're directing our energies and expenses to meet the changes in the club since we started. Folks who subscribe should look for the final issue of the printed Bullet in late April. I laughed so hard at just how cute Opie is. I loved the part when Andy said he just "loves 45 minute eggs". I thought the whole episode is just so sweet, it made me think about how many weddings I have been to and nobody does 'speak now or forever hold your peace' I never really thought about it until Opie asked why its said if nobody ever does. Well folks time to go and make my 45 minute eggs and then go play tennis. Mayberry 4ever Elaine ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2001 23:31:13 -0600 From: "Linda Poindexter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Andy/Family Law I just finished watching Family Law, where Andy played an elderly man who committed a mercy killing on his Alzheimer-inflicted wife. It was so sad, Andy and Janet Leigh did such a wonderful job, I'm just hoping it was just acting, and they really aren't that old and feeble. The plot was really thought-provoking, and Andy was excellent. But he seemed so shaky; I hope that was just the part he was playing and not as a result of his recent illness. Your thoughts? I've been reading on the Digest that Andy will be on Dawson's Creek, but I haven't been able to find a listing for the time. Can someone tell me? Thanks! :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 03:45:02 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Andy on Family Law I missed it! Did anyone tape it? I find myself awakening too early, and, even though i already have most of the shows taped, and, knowing my VCR is set to record that mornings two episodes, too excited to go back to sleep and i get up and watch them "live".My wife thinks i'm crazy but i told her that its just one of them there compelsion complexes.
