I think Jack Nicholson was in the episode when the young couple had a fight
and left the baby on the doorstep that Opie and Arnold found. He was the
father of the baby.

Mr. Mason was played by Max Showalter who indeed was "Grandpa Fred" in
Sixteen Candles. Another interesting tidbit is that he played Ward Cleaver in
the pilot episode of Leave it to Beaver!

I saw Andy guest appearing on Family Law also. I thought it was very
thought-provoking and difficult. I especially found it interesting because
I am a legal assistant/paralegal for a law firm that specializes in elder
law. We deal with legal situations very similar to what happened on that
episode on a regular basis. However, as sentimental as I am, it was hard
for me to see Andy playing a part like that. Anyway, just so you know, by
signing a Power of Attorney and a Living Will, you will prevent the legal
complications that happened on that episode with your parents or yourself.
(side note there) :o).
I hope Andy's character is not so sad on Dawson's Creek this week.

Yes! That was the late Casey Adams, who was also known as Max Showalter.
The other grandfather was played by Edward Andrews, and he appeared on TAGS
too, as Professor Hubert St. John in "Aunt Bee and the Lecturer."
Mr. Adams / Showalter is probably best known for his role as one of the
travelling salesmen in the opening scene of "The Music Man." You remember,
"Casssshhhh for the merchandise, casssshhhh for the hard goods...." He was
also the narrator for the film "Stars and Stripes Forever," an excellent
movie about John Philip Sousa.

I just talked to a representative from Columbia House today, and the word is
that the company will lose its rights to TAGS in mid-February.
She didn't know if any other interest was planning to purchase the
rights.
Bottom line: Those of us hoping that Columbia House would produce
more than the 10-tape set appear to be out of luck.
If anyone has any information on the next potential distributor of
TAGS tapes, lemme know. I'm still interested in rounding out my collection.

Hi Gang.....
Saw Family Law and it was great! Of course our Andy did a great job as
usual acting the part of the feeble old timer. I am convinced with his
ability that it was indeed acting. In fact, I made the observation that
Andy actually looked good, better than he has looked in sometime. It
was great to see him back after his heart problems, and perhaps he is
now once again making the rounds with guest roles on future series, and
or movies. Now to check him out on Dawson's Creek. From whats been
posted, his part there may be similar type casting, LOL.
Great to see Andy back!!!! "It's therapetic"

I joined this list a few months ago, fell way behind on my e-mail, finally
got caught up today and can FINALLY contribute something here before its old
news:
According to the Internet Movie Database (a great resource for finding out
who played in what at www.imdb.com), it was Sammy Jackson who played Will
Stockdale in the TV series. Jackson, coincidentally, was born in Henderson,
N.C., and played an inductee in the movie version. The TV show also starred
Frank "Mr. Foley" Ferguson as Pa Stockdale, Andy "Frank Myers" Clyde as
Granpa Jim Anderson, Paul "Harry Becktoris" Smith as Captain Martin and
Hayden Rorke (Dr. Bellows on "I Dream of Jeannie") as Colonel Farnsworth.

I am curious about the fact that Andy looked and acted
so very feeble last night on Family Law. Please tell
me he is not ill, or still suffering effects from his
recent illness. I hope it was just one more example
of his superb acting. A lady I work with said to me
today; I don't like to see Andy, Barney or anyone else
from the show now, I want to remember them as they
were. I don't agree with her, Andy is still a
wonderful actor and it is very enjoyable seeing him or
anyone else from TAGS again. On another note, I
attended my first Mayberry Days this past fall,(IT WAS
WONDERFUL!) and I have a question. Has Andy or Don
ever attended a Mayberry Days??? Wouldn't that be
great!!!!!
Made some chicken salad last night, but don't worry I
didn't put any kerosene cucumbers in it. Anita

I got an autograph from him about 6 months ago. It hangs, framed, on my

I was just wondering in any of my fellow mayberrians, could remember how
many times barney or andy refered to each other as cousin, i can only think
of 3, in the first episode the new housekeeper, in the episode where barney
is saying its big really big, and Andy says i never would have thought my
own cousin could make such a fine deputy. and again in the episode where
opie and his friends are playing outside the courthouse, and push the squad
car in front of the fireplug, and barney makes a speech to andy about how he
always told him to do things right, goes on to say well then cousin andy i
have to give you this ticket, sorry i cant remember the names of these last
2 episodes but i know you all know them to. So if anyone can think of
amymore please let me now. thanks, Mark. ( boy you fall down a well, you get

I remember someone posting a while back about the squad car having
another license plate number other than JL-327, I believe the poster
said it ws DC-269. well while watching the episode of "The lady druggist"
tonight I saw the DC plate on the front of the 1960 squad car, it was in the
opening
scene when Barney is driving Andy and Aunt Bee, and they pull up in front of
the
drug store, Barney parks next to the mail box,
It seems like the more that I read the digest the more that I notice, and
I'm not
watching to notice things, I just watching because it's such a good show.

Somebody's probably already mentioned this, but Andy's scheduled to be on
Dawson's Creek Wednesday night, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. EST on the WB network. I
also caught Andy on Family Law and he did a great job. It was a sad episode

to be the one doing the carting!

We had the same reaction to the return of the black and whites at our house.
I appreciate the color episodes and enjoyed seeing them, but when I saw the
black and white coming on, I raised both arms in the air and shouted "Yeah!"
It just felt like an old friend had returned for a visit. I laugh every time
I see Andy say "I'm sorry. I already 10-4'd ya." And when Opie comes out to
keep Aunt Bee from leaving in the first episode, it gets me every time.
Those two episodes are priceless. I never get tired of them.

I wish I had thought to tape the Family Episode, it was so wonderful. But I
think Andy will be on Dawson's Creek tonight, so I'll definitely tape it, if
anyone is interested.
I'm glad to see the Black and Whites again, but I was really hoping I would
see the episode where Andy and Helen get married, I never did see that, and
that is one of the VERY FEW that I never saw. You know, I think the real
reason we like the B&Ws best is because the whole gang were there.
What did everybody think of the Family Law episode? Were you as moved as I
was?
