In the earlier episodes, Andy is laughing and smiling all the time and is always happy. In the later episodes he is very serious most of the time and acts depressed really. All the southern accent is gone as well. Has anyone else noticed this >> speaking as a "true" southerner i have to say that the "southern" accents in the VERY early shows were ,well, annoying to me as they were ( i am searching for kind words)...well they sounded fake...but the accents quickly became more believable...i am speaking of barney, andy and aunt bee....gomer and goober sounded like real southerners right off the bat.... pam, a georgian in texas ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2001 00:54:16 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V3 #45 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2001 04:03:20 -0800 (PST) From: Rafe Hollister <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Same Last Name > I don't think Mr. Holmes would have put this in the 'impossible' > category. I have a cousin with the last name of Thompson who married a feller with the same last name, although he wasn't one'a ours. I wonder if Taylor or Thompson is a more common surname? Hmmmm... Then in "Mayberry Goes Hollywood", Mr. Harmon the movie producer calls him "Mr. Colby" as he and Andy are leaving after talking with Floyd on the street. "It was a pleasure talking to you, Mr. Colby", is what he says, I believe. Is one'a them names and characters what you were a-gropin' for, Paul? Paul, that's exactly the same idea I had!! If I'm not mistaken, the closing credits during the black and white years were in E-flat, while the opening credits were in G. Ain't that odd... Name the character and the name used. Now I'm flying blind here (no reference books, or episode guides) but doesn't Andy call him Floyd Colby in the episode where the producer comes to town and everybody goes crazy? Floyd changes the name of the barbershop to Colby's Tonsorial Parlor, or some such foolishness. Am I close...partial credit, maybe? > From: "wprint1" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Ellies Forgetfulness >...In the episode where Andy tries to ask Ellie to the dance, Opie comes > into the drug store, and talks with Ellie for a while enjoying his other > FREE ice cream. Then she says...You must be Sheriff Taylors little boy. > The kicker is that they had already met. Still blind, but recalling, maybe from Richard Kelly's book, that the episodes with Ellie were moved up in the schedule during the first season because the producers felt that Andy needed a romantic interest. The episodes were not shown in the order they were shot. Also, "continuity" between shows was not a big deal on sitcoms from the 50's and early 60's. Each show was considered somewhat "stand alone". Contrast that with "Seinfeld" (IMHO, the 2nd greatest ensemble comedy in TV history) where much of the comedy flows out of events, people, and phrases from previous episodes. All this TAGS nicknaming started here back in 1997, when the Sarah's Party Line chat started. It was the first TAGS chat room, and those of us that were there, thought it would be cool to have TAGS nicknames, and we tried to pick a nickname that had something to do with what we did in real life, also. That's why I picked the nickname, "Emmett", since I am a Apartment maintenance man......a real fixit man,so here we are now. I got in there in the first week, and met Emma, Flora, and several others, and for a time, it wasn't hard to find a nickname, but then after awhile, it got harder what with all the great folks comin in. Finding Sarah's was the best thing that happened to Martha and I. These first folks we found there are now our best friends. Oh, there were interlopers from time to time too, but it didn't take long to see they weren't TAGS fans, and they didn't come back. We didn't give em a rude, or anything, we were nice, real nice, like Mary Grace, it's just that TAGS wasn't their thing, and they didn't come back, even though we invited them back. It was a lot of fun chatting in there most of the night, every night, and I have to say, Martha and I made some real GOOD friends through the chat room. As far as I know, no one is using the Horatio name, even though I have seen it used before. Even then, I don't think anyone would get upset if you wanted to use it. This is the first time I posted to the digest but I enjoy reading them so much almost as much as watching TAGS! Yall are like part of my family. I do enjoy the B&W episodes, but them there colored ones has alot of good morals too! My very favorite episode is the one where the man has car trouble and wants his car to be fixed in a hurry but its Sunday and he can't. I think that shows why we all love visiting Mayberry on a daily basis. I also love the one when Barney gives the gov. a ticket. Cracks me up when ol Barn gets drunk all those episodes. Yall have a nice day and I"ll be seein' ya Diann ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Feb 2001 18:26:20 -0600 From: "Rick Willis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: The Sermon for Today <> If I'm not mistaken, what Andy is writing on is the church offering envelope--because, if I'm not mistaken, we also see him lick the flap and seal it after he writes on it. It's a nice little touch of genuine church culture. You put your contribution inside and write your name and the amount on the envelope. When I was a kid, we also had several little churchly-check-points on our envelopes, like 'Bible brought,' 'Bible read daily,' 'Sunday School lesson studied,' 'Worship attendance' . . . One of the endearing things about this episode is how realistically it portrays a typical Sunday morning in the 'Bible Belt,' right down to the manic, urgent flight out of the house (family snipping at each other on the way) before everyone puts on their best behavior for the congregation and preacher.
