Hello all...This is my first time to post. Just wondering something....In the "Man In A Hurry" Episode why wasn't Thelma Lou at Church with Barney. We always see her in church on other occasions. We have to assume since Barney needs $.50 to pick up a Sunday paper and a couple of frozen sunny june bars for her that maybe she skiped that day. Just wondering???? ....A whole town is standing still because two old women's feet fall asleep!!!! I wonder what causes that?? Eric ***(NOTE FROM ALLAN: My answer is that Thelma Lou wasn't actually in that episode so there was no need to pay Betty Lynn to come in and be in the church scene if that was the only time we'd see her. Of course the "fictional" way to answer might be that she was feeling poorly and Barney was getting the ice cream to make her feel better?) ------------------------------ Date: 16 Feb 2001 06:46:07 EST From: SANDRA SILS <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Music of Mayberry & Skip Sanford While watching the episode last night with the record producer, the album that Ellie had in the closing seen [Music of Mayberry], was it an actual record produced for the series or just a prop they had made? I sure would like to have a copy, you just can't beat gool ol' bluegrass music! It's gooooood! The painting that is hanging above the bookshelf next to the Bulleting Board. It's like a painting of...well, shoot I can't remember what it is now. But I remember it looked very unfamiliar. It was like someone from history, like Thomas Jefferson or something...dang, I totally forgot. Well.....anyway, my question is, has that ALWAYS been there ? I'm sure Alan will be able to answer this one giving this is one of his favorite episodes :) lots of luck to you and yours, Mike : -)> "Opie....Stockings is something a woman WEARS..." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 09:00:30 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V3 #49 I believe 'Uplifters', are just do-gooders in general. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 09:23:20 -0500 From: Don Good <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: sorry you got rubbed the wrong way ><< I'm out. > >I sure hope ever'body don't go jumpin' to bad conclusions about this feller. >I'm sure he's a wonderful human bein'. Has anyone else ever noticed this? Bill Dunham ("twjpttsm") While it is fairly possible, I am still doubdtful that it was that cold in L.A. while filming to see their breath, being the non trained noticer I didn't see this phenomenon. I'll have to pull my copy out and watch it. Now iffin they had filmed the show in good ol NC, there would be no question about it being possible. Phil ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 09:57:31 -0600 From: Paul Mulik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Q & A I have a question? Actually 2. #1 What is a white elephant sale? #2 What is Bastille day? >>> 1. A "white elephant" is an object that one no longer wants, or one that is not worth keeping. The term dates back to ancient Siam. When the king wanted to punish someone, he gave him a white elephant (a REAL, LIVE one). You didn't dare refuse a gift from the king, but white elephants could not be put to work (I guess they were considered sacred) and it cost so much to take care of the elephant that the recipient went broke trying to feed it. At our annual orchestra Christmas party, we always have a white elephant gift exchange. Everybody picks something in their house that they want to get rid of (like that hideous throw pillow your aunt gave you that's been sitting in the closet for years), and wraps it up as a gift. It doesn't cost any money and the results are hilarious. One or two gifts seem to reappear year after year. 2. Bastille Day is a French holiday simliar to Independence Day in the USA. The Bastille was a French fort that was stormed on July 14, 1789. The holiday symbolizes the end of the monarchy and the beginning of Democracy in France. I'm getting sidetracked here, but I've never understood why practically everyone calls Independence Day "The Fourth of July." That's just a date on the calendar! I mean, we never say "Happy First of January" or "Merry 25th of December," do we? Finally, you know a can't resist making everyting into a trivia question: How many times is "The Fourth of July" mentioned on TAGS? - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 14:42:30 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: map of town of mayberry Help! I don't think there is anything official as to how the town of Mayberry is laid out (ie- location of the homes, business, etc.) has anybody ever put one together. I don't want the map of mayberry county etc. I am looking for streets, what places are located on them, where the old oak tree is in relation to all the buildings etc. If anyone wants to send me their interpretation, you can fax me at 612-632-3413. It comes right to my home! I'm sorry for his rule breaking and I ask that we just ignore what he said and move on. I'm also sorry if some folks feel like we have too many rules. There are only two real rules: 1) Obey all rules 2) Keep things positive and for the most part on topic. In other words, just keep the talk about TAGS or the actors or related subjects and try to be nice. That's it, I hope that's not too much for anybody to try to follow. It's been working for several years and I think it's what has kept this little corner of Mayberry a fun place to be. It's a very good try at getting the lay out of the town down on paper but because of the changes made during the run of the series to locations of some houses and businesses are very hard to nail down. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 16:57:56 -0500 From: goober <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: andy's autograph - opinions welcomed goober in va says hey! it's been awhile since i posted, but i recently won andy autograph on ebay. i don't know if it is ok here but here the url for the scan/ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1408906132 i would like to find someone in our "mayberry" community who could possibly let me know if this is the real deal. if any of you have met andy, or received an autograph from him-i would really appreciate the input. thanks in advance for any input- goober in virginia "shoe fly, he's dead!"-barney fife, the pickle episode ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 17:17:44 EST From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Bastille Day and White Elephants #1 What is a white elephant sale? White Elephant has come to mean something that is too valuable to throw away but of no use to the owner. I won't bore everyone with the details of the story but you can e-mail me if you want to know more. #2 What is Bastille day? Bastille Day is the Independence Day of France. It is celebrated on July 14 to commemorate the storming of the Bastille, which was the beggining of the French Revolution. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 16:49:45 -0700 From: Chip Morris <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mayor Pike & Stoner Two of my favorite characters on the show are Mayor Pike and Mayor Stonier. I love the way Mayor Pike goes from one stance of an argument to another without skipping a beat. One of my favorite scenes with Mayor Stoner is when he is calling the Governor on the phone to take care of a problem. Though he is a "personal" friend of the Governor, he has problems actually getting him on the phone. Speaking of Mayor's, we love the movie Nightmare Before Christmas, in our house. Have you ever noticed that the mayor of the movie and Mayor Pike look alike? What about the scene in "Aunt Bee's Medicine Man" where Aunt Bee is quite tipsy and walks by Andy and Barney and stops and says, "Barney, what are you doing here?" Ever noticed how she looks directly into the camera when she says that? I always thought it was a weird thing but I love the episode anyway. Hilarious!!
