Eric - you may think that you have seen Thelma Lou in church with Barney
before, she was a good woman and all of that, but I don't think we ever did
see her in church. Help me out here Mr. Mulik. Did we?

Maybe she went to church in Siler City with her family, maybe she was a
Buddhist or a member of some traveling religion, but I don't think we ever
saw her take from Rev. Tucker a'tall.

Hmmm, not sure about the autograph. It looks pretty good and similar to the
known griffith signature, but I don't know your Ebay seller there.

However, it looks like he lives not more than 5 miles away from me here, so
let me know if you have trouble with the transaction. Maybe I can take
O'Malley over there and maybe get Floyd and Otis and make kind of a posse
if he doesn't come through on the sale.

Hello everyone,
I have been enjoying this bulletin board for many months now and it is the
bomb! I am getting ready to move to a small town in Fl that reminds me of
Mayberry with more colorful characters and a lot more Otis types.
Anyway, Time for a question. What is the name of the man in a hurry and
what type of car does he drive?

Thanks
Daffney the fun girl from Archdale.

The door thing is funny. It appears in much of the early episodes I believe,
but I don't think it's there in the later ones.
I've always seen it as the door that leads up to the mayors office, because
in the Loaded Goat episode, the mayor makes a reference to HIS office being
above the courthouse.
Lots of luck to you and yours

Andy's autograph- after an item has been sold on ebay no one can go
there and view the item, it says the bidding is over on that item.
Someone, I forget who, had said in the digest that they had some nodders
of Andy and Barney, I went to ebay and went through the Andy Griffith
items but couldn't find them. Thanks, Paul, for that information on
what a white elephant is, I knew what it meant but not the background
info. I love trivia.

Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my questions!! I really learned
something. Especially about Bastille day. I used to think they were saying
"Bad Still" day. After all, the episode was about smashing moonshine
stills.(I don't even know if that's how you spell still). About the white
elephant-I found it very interesting to learn that white baby elephants were
given away. I would have taken one!! There is a "White Elephant" shop in a
nearby town and it run in my mind that they do sell antiques and such. I
guess I better get out the old history book. Just like Barney said--There
are things in there that you learn and keep with you all your life. I just
don't remember reading about any white elephants or Bastille Day. I have
learned many things from TAGS though. Like, the preamble to the
constitution, Paul Revere's ride, the founding of Jamestown, Romeo & Juliet,
25 + 25, horatios, and best of all-- how many hatfuls of water it takes to
cool down a boiling radiator!! (That could come in handy one day). Also
wanted to say that I really enjoy this digest. I look forward to getting it
every morning. I actually come in 10 minutes early just so I can read it
before the office opens!! I know I'm rambling, but one more thing. A guy
came into the office one day and we started talking about TAGS and he said
he believed that anybody who loved the show and actually "got it" had to
have a good heart. I truly believe that. It's the one show you can watch
with your grandfather sitting in the room and not worry about what one of
the characters is going to say or do next. I don't have to worry--I know
most of the shows by heart, but I still laugh every time!! Again, Thanks so
much!!

"Boy, that Romeo and Juliet sure would make a good TV show!"

record produced for the series or just a prop they had made? I sure would
like to have a copy, you just can't beat gool ol' bluegrass music! It's
gooooood! (this may have been discussed before, sorry)
>>>

That was actually the jacket from a real LP called "Andy Griffith Shouts the
Blues and Old-Timey Songs" with a different name pasted over the title. The
record made in the episode does not exist, but Andy's old LPs are still
around (they turn up all the time on eBay). The band that played with Andy
in that episode was The Country Boys, who later (with a few different
members) became known as The Kentucky Colonels. Their CDs are readily
available, but you may or may not be able to find recordings of the songs
heard on the show.

Actually, Thelma Lou is never seen in church in any episode, not even once!
Barney SAYS he takes her to church every Sunday, but apparently he was
exaggerating.

I have never met Andy, but I do have a couple of authentic examples of his
signature, and that one looks good to me. There are lots of fake autographs
on eBay, but I have no reason to suspect that this particular one might be a
fake.

A word of warning to any collector: Andy Griffith has never, EVER appeared
at any type of autograph show or public Mayberry gathering, so if someone
tells you they got his autograph that way, they're lying. I've also been
told by his former manager Richard O. Linke that Andy NEVER signed
autographs through the mail (Mr. Linke would sign Andy's name when such
requests were made). So, anytime someone on eBay (or anywhere) offers to
sell Andy's autograph, ask them how they obtained it. If they say they just
happened to bump into him at an airport or NC restaurant or something like
that, they're probably telling the truth.

Several months ago I seem to remember a posting at wbmutbb in reference
to our dear Ernest T. autographing some rocks that would be put up for
sale. Does anyone know anything about this? My husband and I are big
fans and would love to add something like this to our growing tags
collection. Thanks in advance.

I think a lot of TAGS fans are bluegrass fans too. I love the way they
incorporated music into the show. Check out the O Brother Where Art Thou
soundtrack! Awesome bluegrass music!

I think what I like about being involved in this, is that we stay away from
controversy. Life has enough of that. I appreciate the two rules, and think
they keep us on track.

Subject: White Elephant Gifts

<At our annual orchestra Christmas party, we always have a white
elephant gift exchange. Everybody picks something in their house
that they want to get rid of (like that hideous throw pillow your
aunt gave you that's been sitting in the closet for years), and
wraps it up as a gift. It doesn't cost any money and the results
are hilarious.>

We give white elephant gifts at my wife's Christmas party every
year but they add a little twist to it. Say for example there
are 20 people - everyone draws a number 1 through 20. The person
that draws #1 picks a gift and opens it. #2 has the option of
either opening a gift or taking what #1 opened. If someone takes
your gift you can take anyone else's gift or open another one.
(You can't take back what someone took from you until the next
round). This continues on through #20 and some gifts can change
hands many many times. For some odd reason there are always a
few of these worthless items that become very popular and it
always becomes competetive.(and a little aggressive at times!)

Sorry to ramble on about a non TAGS related subject but it's
something I thought some of you might be interested in doing.
It's interesting to see some of the personality traits that
come out in what are usually mild mannered people!
