In Re: WBMUTBB Vol. 3 #53;

Yes, I believe that tee-shirts/sweatshirts with the map of Mayberry is a
f-i-n-e idea!! And a poster map suitable for framing would be good, too!
(like the poster of the U. S. Presidents that hangs on the wall in the
courthouse [I have that one] While Scott Hopkins, who asked the question
{wbmutbb v.3 #51}, said that he is particularly interested in a city street
map, an excellent cartographical rendering of Mayberry County can be found in
"The Andy Griffith Show Book" by Ken Beck and Jim Clark. {map drawn by Robert
Turner}
 [ c. 1985, St. Marten's Press, Lib. Con. #PN1992.77.A573B4 - 1985 -
791.45'72 / 85-12532 ^ ISBN 0-312-03654-X (pbk.) ]

I'd also love to see an inset map of Ernest T.'s vision of his county from
his geography test in episode #133 - "The Education of Ernest T. Bass". Maybe
Weavers Dept. Store will order some of those maps from Grollier or Encarta to
sell for our geographical edification ("So's I can git me some learnin') ...

I sympathize with you, Neil, as we went thru the same disappointment when
Gomer appeared at Disney World a couple years back. We happened to be in
the front row and luckily got to shake hands but his manager wouldn't
allow any backstage visits even though a Disney employee took one of our
honorary chapter certificates back to him and said he appreciated it.
And a big Amen to Scott Gamel's explanation - kudos to you and your great
analogy!!

I had the opportunity to attend TAGS Bible Study Seminar a couple of
months ago at an area church. It was great just to be around others who
were excited about the show, but an added enjoyment to see how the shows
moral lessons relate to the Bible. One of the things that I noticed was
the diverse age of the group. It was open to anyone, and people from ages
10-80, both male and female, were there. It was so informal and simple
that everyone got something from the TV show and the Bible Study. There
are two separate volumes, and I was told that the church would soon
complete volume 2. It was such a great thing, that I have talked to
leaders of my own church to see about having TAGS Bible Study of our own.

Re: the writer who didn't quite understand why we don't get
conterversial about TAGS or Mayberry in this column, its because
Mayberry is such a calm, cool relaxing place. From the Taylors front
porch on a summer evening, to the chairs in front of Floyds Barbershop
to the calm serene woods and waters of Myers Lake, it was and is a
respite from the rest of the world, if only for 30 minutes, so lets keep
it that way & stay " Calm & Cool in our favorite Hometown: Mayberry."

My all-time favorite is a girl that Barney went out with just the one time
because her daddy saw his picture in the newspaper when he won four free
haircuts--Halcyon Loretta Winslow. We never did see her, but Barn told Andy
about her. Although Mr. Winslow offered Barn a third interest in the family
prune-pitting factory if he would marry Halcyon, Barn cut off the
relationship right there. Called Halcyon the ugliest girl he'd ever seen in
his life, remember?

Wishing our Saudi members well!

A White Elephant Sale is a sale where you get rid of old junk that you don't
want and don't have a use for, and usually wind up buying somebody else's
junk, and all the money goes to charity. It is named for a rumored practice
of Far Eastern ruler's for giving a gift (supposedly an elephant) to someone
that they really wanted to be mean to. Then, the recipient goes broke trying
to pay for an elephant's upkeep, and can't risk getting rid of it for fear of
insulting the ruler who gave the gift. The only way out was to find some way
to be charitable with the unwanted gift.

Bastille Day is a national holiday in France, commemorating the time (during
the reign of King Louis XVI) when the people stormed the Bastille (a French
prison with a large number of political prisoners), overthrew the king's men,
and set the captives free, leading to the liberation of France from the
monarchy.

We French people think this is big. This is really big! We should take the
day of and watch a TAGS marathon (he was over there during the war, you
know). It is celebrated on July 14.

Andy's autograph- after an item has been sold on ebay no one can go there
and view the item, it says the bidding is over on that item.
>>>

You can still view the results of any completed auction for 30 days, but
often the seller removes the picture as soon as the auction ends (you'll
just see a little red X where the picture should be).

Here's a tip if you're looking for Andy Griffith items on eBay: Instead of
searching for the words "Andy Griffith," type in "Andy Grif*." A lot of
people out there can't spell worth a lick (and a lot more are just plain
ignorant). By using the asterisk, you'll find items listed as "Andy
Griffin," "Andy Griffeth" and so on that you would never have found had you
browsed for "Griffith." The same hint applies to Don Knotts; many people
misspell his name Knots or even Knox. If you do browse for "Don Kn*,"
you'll need to add "-Jack" or you'll get lots of hits for the game "You
Don't Know Jack."

Hey Richard (and everybody else on the list as well),

I'm not sure what you're talking about? I haven't seen any note from you?
Are you sure you're sending them to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I haven't "not posted" anything from you that you sent to the Digest. I have
been noticing some folks emailing me directly at
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and those messages don't normally get
posted to the Digest because they are sent directly to the owner of the
Digest and not to the Digest itself. (I don't know how clear that sounds to
folks but just remember to send anything you want to go to the Digest to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] email address.)

You are right though...we don't really want controversy. For the most part
the discussion here on the WBMUTBB Digest (which is not a web site...it's a
mailing list) is, and should be, about things you LIKE about The Andy
Griffith Show. That's part of "The Rules" here at WBMUTBB and those rules
have done us good for a LONG time.

We have enough negative stuff to deal with every day without having more
negatives poured out on us when we're trying to have a good time.

I also want to thank those that have echoed pretty much what I'm saying.
Mayberry's a place to enjoy life and out little corner is just trying to live
up to that example.

Hey ya'll! Been real busy what with feeding those young'uns in the
daytime and singing at the Congo Club at night, so I haven't posted for
a while.

Sorry to hear Skip was leaving. That fella sounded a little put out,
like maybe he had a touch of rumatiz or maybe the bursitis (bless his
heart) Sounds like he could'a used a bottle of the Colonel's Elixer to
fix him right up!

Saw the film "Hannibal" this past week and heard the term 'fifedom' used
in context to a self-serving, slightly bungled police action. Is this
term derived from our good ole Barn or was the character's name chose as
a play on this term? Anyone out there know?
