>>>I'm almost 100% sure the plates were NC and not Californy, Movie and TV

same color schemes.

Phil "a little out of touch with reality, but having the time of my life"

Many of the license plates were correct NC tags, or at least good
imitations. NC tags for 1960 (the year TAGS premiered) had two letters, a
hyphen, and three numbers. For example, the squad car's license plate in
almost every episode is JL-327. Several plates were used over and over on
many different cars, such as AY-321, RD-757, and GP-780.

The plate number JL-327 was taken from a tire ad that depicted plates from
all 50 states (or maybe it was 48 - the ad may have been a couple of years
old by 1960). Anyway, when the show first entered production, the prop
department needed an example of what a NC tag should look like. The NC tag
in the advertisement had the number JL-327, so they copied that.

Not all of the cars seen on the show had NC tags, though. Often, when a
scene required a large number of cars, the cast or crew would park their own
cars on the backlot, and those of course had California tags. This is why
you see an occasional Chevy or foreign car in Mayberry.

Speaking of California tags, if you take a close look at the governor's
license plate in "Barney and the Governor," it looks like a California tag
with a sloppy paint job. It reads "NOTH CAPOLNIA" or something like that.
At least the feller won't have a tough time recollecting his number.

Good question Kevin - I know that to get a good suit you have to go to Mt.
Pilot, maybe you can get a good haircut there too.

Here's another Floyd mystery. Ever notice that no matter who was getting a
haircut, nobody ever paid Floyd when they were done. When the Bookie
Barber was there, Floyd liked the sound of the register (Listen, he's
playing my song" but I saw Andy, Barn, various mayors, et al. get out of
the chair and slide out the door without even a reach for the pocket and I
can't recall ever hearing the register ding. I know Jim Lindsay was
running a tab, but Floyd complained about that one.

The other night during supper, we were watching TAGS and heard something and
made us stop and look at each other. This episode was of when Floyd was
involved
with the lonely hearts club and things were getting messy!
They were in somebody else's house, pretending it was Floyd's, etc., etc.

This is not a quote, but Andy told Floyd that the woman that was coming to
visit Floyd most likely made up HER stories about being a rich widow and
probably
embelished her stories just like Floyd had.
We looked at each other and said, "I've never heard THAT said before in this
episode!"
TV Land cut Aunt Bee's statement that she was enjoying playing the maid; just
like in sunday school when she was a little girl!
Oh, well, at least TVLand is adding back in some great lines; that makes the
story make more "sense".
Has any body ELSE heard some lines or seen some scenes lately that have
reappeared
after being cut out for so long?????? It would be interesting to hear from some
of you all.

I was watching the show today about the phony robbery at Walker's drugstore
(so Barney would have a crime to solve) and noticed a prop mistake. While
Barney was putting fingerprint powder all over Ellie's cash register I noticed
two sunglass display's. On one of the racks was a broken pair of sunglasses.
Maybe they were made for partly sunny days.
 Best to all...

Am I the only crazy person or does anybody else wonder how Emergency made it
that far. Robert Fuller can't act. We should have had another Andy-fest. And
what's the budget total for the All Andy channel?

I was just scanning the TAGSRWC website, and saw something stating "the
final Bullet." can this be? has the Bullet been fired? I was just in the
process of initiating my first membership (long overdue) and saw this
notice. I was really looking forward to the regular instalments of
nondigital TAGS info. I hope I misread this.

I was just watching my second favorite show, Dick Van Dyke, and it was an
episode with a dream sequence. The DVD used that device several times and I
was wondering if TAGS ever did. I can't think of any examples if they did.

Hello Everyone,

I just watched the "last" BW episode tonight, the one where Jerry Van Dyke
gueststars. When his character was introduced in this episode, the writers
would have already known Barney was not coming back (or did they?)

Anyway, was there any plan to replace Barney's character with Jerry's? I
think he could have pulled off that position much more successfully then the
Warren character.

Anyway just wondering?

Subject: Re: Paul's trivia question

"Tonight while watching "Lawman Barney" on TVLand, I noticed something
very
unusual about the vehicles seen in this episode. Anybody know what it
was?"

Well, I was waiting to see if somebody jumped on this one, but no one
has, so I guess I'll take a stab at it. I pulled out my video of this
episode to see if I could determine what Paul was referring to. The only
other vehicle I noticed, besides the squad car and the farmers' truck,
was a station wagon (seen at the very beginning of the episode), but it
was so far away that it was hard to see. The truck was a Ford, so I
guess that wasn't anything unexpected. The only thing that struck me as
odd was that the truck's outside mirror had been removed from the
driver-side door. It is very evident where the mirror had been attached,
so that stuck out to me. (It also would seem to be quite hazardous to
drive a large truck like that without an outside mirror, especially with
all that farm produce potentially blocking the view of an inside
rear-view mirror!) I noticed, too, that the squad car had no outside
rear-view mirrors, but there was a spotlight attached close to the
driver's window, which I never particularly noticed before. Did I answer
your question right, Paul??

By the way, Georgia Griffin mentioned about the size of the squash the
farmers were selling, so I took special notice of that. You're right,
Georgia -- I've seen some pretty big squash in my time, but those things
were huge! And had an unusual shape, too.

Lastly, somebody else was talking about Barney's and Andy's uniforms and
the different shaped pocket flaps. Sure enough, they were just as
described. I can't believe I never noticed that before! Thanks for
bringing it to our attention!

Has anyone received the first "new" video from Columbia House yet? Like many
of you, I purchased their original 10 tapes. I received a letter from them
near the end of February that they were coming out with new TAGS tapes and that
the first would be coming soon. Yet I've not seen anything yet.

Just checking.

In response to the question of what does the "T" stand for in Ernest T.
Bass's name ,this is just a silly thought.... maybe it stands for "tator
handler". Andy: Ernest T, you don't pass ONE, you pass the whole thing!
Ernest T: Whole thing? ( he then hands Andy 4 or 5 potatos) Ernest T:
Well what's the matter? I passed it, I didn't HEAVE it! Or the "T"
could stand for "toter of jackasses". ( In trying to get accepted to
the Army he brags about "toting a sick jackass 5 miles to the doctor".)
Also, he could be "thrower of bricks and rocks". Ernest T: Charlene, look
out here! Can you see me? Blountville,Tn.
