Hey everybody. In the man in a hurry episode, it seemed to me that when Mr.
Tucker was going to crank his car(after Goober and Gomer fixed it) that he
reached on the left side of the steering wheel to crank it. I'm not an
expert on in dash ignitions, but wasn't the ignition supposed to be on the
right side of the steering wheel? That has been bugging me. If anybody has
any thoughts on the matter, just send them along. Thanks, Horatio(Kevin)

A thunkin' bucket needs passin out here. I see that [EMAIL PROTECTED] asks
some questions about "Convicts at Large". Andy knows that old Floyd has
been out with girls before and figured that he's just a sly old dog, As
for O'Malley, well he probably had a friend that he was headed for to
ask for a lift to his cabin. And everybody knows that cops always have
extra gear in the trunk for emergencies, but when Andy was talking to
O'Malley he could have stopped by the jail house to pick up some extra
cuffs because he had told Barnie on the phone that there were 3 escaped
convicts on the loose. Now I'll be "Dad-blamed" if I'm gonna explain how
Jack could grow such a big beanstalk and how the giant could have a
castle sitting on a soft cloud. Boy, PUT THAT THINKIN' BUCKET ON NOW !

Hi folks,
Just got to thinkin when I sent in another reply that, maybe some other
good people out there might have the same problem I found. When I write
and use some of the good ol Mayberry terminology and hit "Spell Check"
my machine starts screaming. Hope my old English teacher never gits a

Subject: dull paint

>>>Howdy all,
I was just wondering, how come is it that the squad car never seems to have
a glossy reflection. It always seems to be dull or dust-covered. Was it a
production trick used to keep from getting the camera and crew reflected in
the paint job?
>>>

You're correct, they had to deliberately make the BLACK paint dull so that
it wouldn't reflect lights and ruin the camera shot. Most of the time, they
probably just sprayed on some sort of dull-coat finish. The 1960 model
looks especially rough in close-ups. It looks like somebody scoured it all
over with steel wool or wire brushes or something.

Subject: O'Malley

>>>Also, how was O'malley planning on getting back to his cabin from
Mayberry when he arrived back in town if Andy not offered him a ride?
>>>

He probably has a house in town that's within walking distance of the bus
stop. A man with his money surely wouldn't live in a house with no running
water.

This reminds me, a couple of weeks ago, someone noticed that O'Malley seemed
to suddenly appear on the other side of the street a split second after the
bus pulled up. This was due to slightly careless editing. The shot of the
bus pulling up was actually taken from a different episode, most likely "The
Manicurist."

>>> One more thing. With the small amount of crime in Mayberry, why would
Andy just happen to have 3 sets of handcuffs when they captured the girls?
>>>

Perhaps a better question is, why bother to fasten ONE cuff to somebody
without fastening the other cuff to anything? What good would that do? On
all three captures, Andy slaps on just one cuff, and then leaves the other
cuff dangling. He might as well have not even bothered with the handcuffs
at all. Maybe we was planning on attaching the other cuff to something
inside the car, but in that case it seems to me it would have made more
sense to wait until the women were inside the car.

Hey everyone!

We often talk about our favorite episodes, favorite characters etc. but what
about our favorite memories of actually watching the show.

I can remember my Mom fixing Tuna Fish Sandwiches (with little sweet gherkins
cut up in em) and me and my brother and her sitting at TV trays in the den
and watching episodes during the summer.

My wife and I sit in bed and watch the two episodes at night that come on our
local station.

So what other memories do you guys have of watching the show.

Hello, I am a newbe and this has probably been brought up before but why does
Andy always pull up to the court house and slide across the seat to get out
instead of opening the drivers door?

Thanks,

Subject: Otis is at it Again!

Hey folks,
Here9s another TAGS sighting for you. The movie 3The Apartment2, directed
by Billy Wilder, came out in 1959. It starred Jack Lemmon, Shirley
MacLaine, and Fred McMurray. In one scene, it is Christmas eve, and Jack9s
character is in a bar. Who else would just happen to be in that bar? None
other than our dear friend Otis. And - wouldn9t you know it - he was
playing the part of a rather tipsy Santa Claus! Just noticin9 and thought
I9d pass it along.

Barney: 3Andy... Take this - put it under your shirt.2 (hands gun to Andy)

In Man in a Hurry, when Mr. Tucker walks in to town on that 2nd block of
Main Street that is out past the theater, he hears the church bell and turns
left. On that corner is a sign for a drug store. So there was Walker's up
on the central block across from the court house then there was this second
one further down.

How many rooms are in Andy's House.

I thought it had 4 bed rooms......
One for Opie
One for Andy
One for Aunt Bee
and a Guest Room

In the episode that Mr. Tucker cam to Mayberry "man in a Hurry"
Opie was excited because he could sleep on the ironing board...

Also does anyone have a list of all the reference points where Mayberry
is suppose to be located ( I know none of them are precise). In this
episode Mr. Tucker said he was 2 miles from Hwy 43.

Thanks

Subject: Forgiveable Moments

Can you recall any "forgiveable TAGS moments" in the episodes? These would
be segments in an episode that aren't realistic, but "forgiveable" in the
sense that they made such a sweet contribution to the story line.

I think one of the ULTIMATE forgiveable moments was in the episode "Man in a
Hurry," where, in the epilog, Malcom Tucker is seen on the porch in a
rocking chair. He seems to be "asleep," yet he's still able to rock his
chair, hold onto an apple, and keep his head upright. He's "so far gone"
that he doesn't respond when his name is called, yet he's able to rock, hold
onto an apple, and keep his head from falling onto his chest. Not likely,
but oh-so-forgiveable. It's a sweet, sweet way for the episode to end, and
I wouldn't change a second of it.

Another "forgiveable moment" in that same episode is when Malcom hears the
church bells ringing upon entering the deserted streets of "downtown"
Mayberry. The bells lead him to the church, but church is over. The bells
are ringing as the members are exiting! Is this how it's done "down south?"
Up here in the north, church bells are rung PRIOR to the start of a worship
service.....a welcoming reminder to "come on in!!" They aren't rung at the
end of the service. Of course, having the bells ringing and leading Malcom
to the church is a charming addition to the storyline -- but realistic it
ain't. (However, -- highly forgiveable!)

Recalling these "forgiveable TAGS moments" isn't meant as an exercise to cut
TAGS to pieces....it's meant as a way of noticing some unrealistic but
charming, and understandable contributions to the series from an artistic
point of view.

Just wondering, all you TAGS experts...

Was Charles Thompson, the actor who portrayed Asa, really an elderly man?
In the episode, "The Bank Job," he really moves around like a much younger
person.
(Except when he's having Barney help him get up from his chair at the bank...)

Subject: Three Questions

Hello fellow TAGS fans!

My name is Jeff Wilson and I'm a member of the "Some of Us Got It, Some of
Us Ain't" (Garner/Clayton, NC) chapter of TAGSRWC.

I've been a "silent spectator" here on the list for over a month and I've
thoroughly enjoyed the informative posts in every issue of the WBMUTBB
digests.

Our chapter met earlier this week and we discussed a couple of interesting
questions I would like to share with everyone.

Please forgive the unintentional repetition if these questions have been
previously discussed. ;o)

First question... I know there are some TAGS fans who probably think Andy
and Helen made a perfect couple, but if you could play "match maker" for our
favorite sheriff, who do you think would be the most compatible mate for
Andy?

I really liked Helen and Ellie, but I personally think Peggy was one of the
most beautiful and compatible women Andy ever dated.

Second question... Ernest T. Bass and the Darlings are some of my favorite
characters on TAGS. Does anyone know why Ernest T. didn't make more
appearances on the show?

Lastly... There appear to be several different TAGS DVDs available. I've
seen the number of episodes range from three (on one DVD) to as many as ten
(in a 2 volume set). I understand there are some DVDs that either don't play
the original TAGS theme, don't offer the complete episodes (with epilogues)
or the quality itself is disappointing.

With that in-mind, could anyone recommend the most accurate, complete and
best quality TAGS DVDs?

I apologize for the lengthy questions, but I look forward to reading all
your replies.

Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
