be segments in an episode that aren't realistic, but "forgivable" in the
sense that they made such a sweet contribution to the story line.
I think one of the ULTIMATE forgivable moments was in the episode "Man in a
Hurry," where, in the epilog, Malcom Tucker is seen on the porch in a
rocking chair. He seems to be "asleep," yet he's still able to rock his
chair, hold onto an apple, and keep his head upright. He's "so far gone"
that he doesn't respond when his name is called, yet he's able to rock, hold
onto an apple, and keep his head from falling onto his chest. Not likely,
but oh-so-forgiveable. It's a sweet, sweet way for the episode to end, and
I wouldn't change a second of it.
Another "forgivable moment" in that same episode is when Malcom hears the
church bells ringing upon entering the deserted streets of "downtown"
Mayberry. The bells lead him to the church, but church is over. The bells
are ringing as the members are exiting! >>
What about when Malcolm Tucker decides to steal Wally's pickup, and Gomer
rushes to phone Sheriff Taylor and ("surprise") gets an open line? Guess
Gomer must've known exactly when those Mendelbright sisters were going to
take a break from their all-day Sunday chatfest!!!

For years, all ford motor cars (and that would have included that Lincoln Mr.
Tucker drove) had the ignitions on the left of the steering wheel. My first
car was an old fairlane and it was difficult getting used to turning the key
with my left hand. I do not know if Fords still have it that way. hey from

Most Ford products back then had the ignition on the left side.

I think Jeff Wilson is right! Peggy has always been my favorite for Andy.
Miss Crump is my favorite teacher but not as a girlfriend/wife for Andy.
Ellie was good too. Andy always had an eye for professional women.

Maybe the church bells were ringing to signal it was time for second service
to begin; Andy has mentioned that they sometimes went to early service.

I have been trying to figure out for years what kind of dishes the Taylors
have. There are many instances of them in various shows. In the color
episodes you can see they are blue and white. I know they aren't Currier and
Ives - though that would sure fit with the times - and I don't think they are
Blue Willow. I would love to find out what they are so I could get at least
a couple of place settings. I figure if anyone knows it will be someone
here!

I don't know about the particular model that Mr. Tucker drove, but I do
recall that many Ford products in the 60's had the ignition switches on the
left side of the dash, next to the door.

Malcolm Tucker is driving a 1963 Lincoln Continental, 4 door
the rear doors on these were suicide (rear opening) doors.
I have a 63 Ford Galaxie squad car replica, and the Ignition switches on
the early 60's Fords were on the Left of the Steering column 60-63.
the ignition was moved back to the right side from 64 on.
I could possibly be wrong on the 63 as the year, but it was filmed in 1963
and it looked new, and Ford Motor Company furnished some new cars for the
show
every year,so it could have been a 63.

Hi. My dad owned a 1951 Ford and its starter and ignition switch were
located on the dash to the LEFT of the steering wheel. It seems to me that
the earlier Fords always had ignition/starters to the left of the wheel.

Subject: Andy's Perfect Match
Hey everyone,
This is in response to the first question from Jeff Wilson's chapter, the one
about finding the perfect match for Andy.
I never considered it seriously until about a year ago, when my wife pointed
out that Andy should have ended up with Charlene! And she is so right. I
like Helen and all but it is obvious that Andy should have been with the
Darlin girl! The evidence is in the scene in the Taylor house hold where
Charlene sings "There is time for us to wander song," At the end of that
song Andy gazes at Charlene in a way that we never see him look at another
girl in any other episode. Deep down Andy knows that is his true love, she
is much more close to who Andy is, in that her simple country outlook is the
same attitude Andy had in the early seasons of the show. The Andy of the
final seasons, or as I like to call him "Mean Andy" seems to be the result of
being the boyfriend of a school teacher who seems to have a habit of always
assuming the worst!
I don't mean to Crump Bash but I think Andy should never even have thought
about "Digging up the Divorce"
Well, thats my 2 cents worth.

Hey to Helen,.. I remember attending a small church (with church bells
and a steeple) back in the 50s and 60s in Ohio. We always rang the bells
before Sunday school (about 10am),.. and then the bells were rung after
the closing prayer of the main service as people exited.. I guess just
sort of a celebration of worship. I remember, because some lucky kid was
selected to get to ring the bells after the service. We all wanted the
job! I got to do it a few times! Chuck Peters (Bandwithabeat)

In the episode of the loaded goat:
Does Barney ever light up a cigarette? Not that I can remember! However, in
the shed where the dynamite is located, he reaches into his pocket and whips
out a Zippo lighter to read the words on the box. When he comes into the
light, there appears to be a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket!
Did Don Knotts smoke at that time, and just happened to have his "fixins" in
his pocket, or did Barney happen to be a closet smoker?

Probably the reason the squad car was dull was it had been painted with a
flat black paint instead of glossy. There is no shine to flat paint.

Well, it is how it is done, in my part of North
Carolina, In my hometown every Sunday at high noon on
the dot, the chruch bells ring out, and play beautiful
music for I would say about 15 minutes.
As for my favorite memory of watching TAGS, it is
comming home after school to my Grandpas house, he
would have me a "samich" and a glass of chocolate milk
waiting, we would watch TAGS and Gilligan and laugh

appearances on the show?
>>>
Probably because Ernest T. Bass was so outrageous that had the character
been overused, The Andy Griffith Show would quickly have degenerated into a
goofy screwball comedy, which would have ruined it. Ernest T. appears in
only five episodes. In addition to playing Ernest T., Howard Morris appears
as George the TV repairman in "Andy and Helen Have Their Day," an episode
which he also directed, along with 7 others.
