(AIT)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Pick-ups and Splashes from Floor and Pool TAGS Sighting... I caught part of a Lucy episode today and guess who was the 'The Man"? Lucy and Ethel were fighting over a broken down washing machine and one of them call "the Man" the repair man. It was Herb Viagrin alias "Bookie Barber" on the Griffith episode by the same name. It was good to see ole Herb from Connersville Indiana on Lucy. Speaking of "The Man"...do any of your local stations carry the commercial that quips "Call the Man ......the Orkin man". I crack up every time I hear it. I always wonder if he can also fix freezers. Just think, Gomer could have called him to fix the freezer AND look for spiders under that bandstand on the same visit! (Orkin is an exterminator) >Who was the first Floyd? I saw him in the episode where the visitor knew everyone because he had taken their home paper.< That one-appearance Floyd was Walter Baldwin. Aren't we glad Howard McNear came along soon after that. >Also was that a different Wally?< There were multiple Wallys...multiple Ben Weavers, Changing names etc. Don't try to piece everything together in a consistent story. It doesn't all fit due to different writers etc. I have to comment on this Andy & Charlene thing. At one time he called her a giggly girl, and said she was about half his age. I don't think he ever took her serious. Peggy or Ellie would have worked, or even Mary Simpson...but we'll just have to wonder won't we. I'd also like to welcome the new members...and put in a couple plugs.. The first is check out that TAGSRWC website that you used to sign up. http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/ There is a ton of stuff out there thanks to Allan that will answer many questions before you have to ask them. AND while you're there, if you'd like to read some Andy episodes you've never seen before (because they were never filmed) check out the Fan Fiction Link, http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/fanfiction.htm Will you help us?....I mean them The Untrained Voice--Joe Gritton ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2001 17:47:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Anita Carpenter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Watching TAGS Someone asked in a digest recently about memories of what life was like when you were watching TAGS. I remember many a summer day as a child with my sisters and brother watching the show while we whiled away hot summer afternoons that were too hot to play outside in. I also remember afternoons after dinner with my husband and daughter enjoying TAGS for the first time with my daughter. I just want yall to read this email. :) Anyway...this did suprise me. I was brousing my "Mayberry Memories" book the other day, taken a look at all the names of the episodes. Cause as long as I've been watching the show, for years and years, I actually still don't know all the actual names of the episodes. So anyway, I came across the episode where Goober puts the car in the courthouse, and it TOTALLY blew me away that the actual name of that episode is "Goober Takes a Car Apart". For all my life, I've ALWAYS assumed that, that episode was called "Car In the Courthouse" and why not!? I mean, they use that phrase a ton of times in it. For me, "Goober Takes a Car Apart" just doesnt ring too well for me. Therefor, I will proudley leave it for my personal well being as "Car in the Courthouse". haha So here's a question....does anyone else feel this same way? Are there OTHER episodes that should be named differently? Lots of luck to you and yours! Mike : -)> "Uh, oh oh OHH!!!! I SEE! Hey Folks, I got this email that I thought some of you *might* be interested in. It's from Lynn Edge who wrote some really nice stories about Mt. Airy, NC that you'll find on the TAGSRWC web site under "What's New". - ---- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Lynn Edge) Allan, I'm conducting two "Weekend in Mayberry" weekends at B&B's in Alabama. The good folks at Opryland send me a couple of Promo video files that I KNOW you're gonna want to see. One is of George Lindsey and the other is of Don Knotts. Both were filmed very recently and Don looks good after being down with a virus early last month. You can see the videos on the front page of the TAGSRWC web site. http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/ The links are there in the list of upcoming events on the front page. Enjoy..... That just frosted me! Andy: That bothered you, did it? Barney: Yes it did. I don't think it is right for the United States government to be transacting business through a slot machine! I sat down and wrote a letter to the Postmaster General about it. Andy: Oh, you did? Barney: Yes I did. I didn't mail it, though. Andy: Why didn't you mail it? Barney: I wouldn't buy a stamp from that machine! Andy: Barney, I'll tell you the truth, You are a bird in this world! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2001 19:05:15 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Stillwell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: The Country Boys I've been doing a little investigating into The Country Boys, the bluegrass band that appeared in Mayberry on Record. I heard someone say that they later became the Kentucky Colonels. I was wondering if the group included Clarence White, later of the Byrds, and of guitar stringbender fame. Sure 'nuff, he was part of the group. I need to rewatch the episode to see if Clarence himself appears. Included is a link that gives a little history behind the Country Boys. Enjoy!! - --Jason at the Hotel http://ebni.com/byrds/memcw1.html _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2001 21:44:26 -0500 From: Janet K Anderson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Customers paying Floyd A few Digests ago, some folks were talking about whether any of Floyd's customers actually paid him for his services. I just noticed an incident today that I think no one has mentioned so far. It is in the "Mayberry Band" episode at the beginning when Andy is getting a hair cut. Now, you have to look close, but you can see Andy reach into his pants pocket for money. Then the camera cuts away. When it cuts back, you can just see Floyd putting his hand in his pocket, apparently depositing the money that Andy gave him. I guess sometimes Floyd found it easier to drop the money into his pocket instead of into the cash register. Larry in Alabama ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2001 10:35:18 -0500 From: Paul Mulik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Andy and instruments >>> Seems that I read somewhere that Andy actually played an instrument (other than guitar). In real life, the first instrument Andy Griffith learned to play was the trombone. He joined the Moravian Church in Mt. Airy so that he could play in the band. His first music instructor was the Revered Ed Mickey. To save up for the trombone, the young Andy took a job cleaning the school, which paid $6 a month. Now for some trivia: How many different instruments do we see Andy Taylor playing in TAGS episodes? The guitar and tuba are easy, but there are more. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2001 10:23:56 -0500 From: Paul Mulik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: questions and answers >>>From: "Larry Johnson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Andy Fans, Can I ask a question many will know? Who was the first Floyd? I saw him in the episoed where the visitor knew everyone because he had taken their home paper. Also was that a different Wally? And did the stranger buy the gas station? If so he must have sold it to Goober. Thanks for your help. >>> That's more than one question, but here goes: Floyd the barber (no last name given) first appeared in the episode "Stranger in Town" (episode 12). In this episode, he was played by Walter Baldwin. He was replaced by Howard McNear, the "real" Floyd, who stayed until the end of the seventh season, at which time he retired due to health reasons. There were actually FOUR different actors to play the role of Wally, but the character did not appear until the third season (in "Lawman Barney"). The gas station owner in "Stranger in Town" was George Safferly (or something similar - the actors pronounce it differently throughout the episode). George agrees to sell the The Stranger, but we never see either of them again after that episode. Other gas stations in Mayberry include Cornwell's, mentioned in "Opie's Charity," and the one owned by Mayor Stoner's brother, mentioned in "The Loaded Goat." Wally's, of course, became Goober's in the eighth season. At that time, we're told that it is the only station in Mayberry. Either the others all went out of business, or there was just one that kept changing hands over the years. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 20:02:20 -0700 (PDT) From: Mike Zimmerman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Mother Figure? Hey Ya'll, With all this talk about Andys girlfriends and why Andy liked Helen best and all. It hit me like a ton of bricks last night. While watching Andy discovers America (Mayberry Minutemen). It's gotta be the ol "mother figure" compelsion! You know it happened to Earnest T when Miss Crump hit him with the ruler, and then last night Helen came in the court house and gave Andy what for...Two&Two is four. I'm surprised Barney didn't catch it. As far as Charlene being a match for Andy I don't think she knew how to cook a leg of lamb either. Thats Andys favorite dish not fish muddle or hog back stew. Let me know what ya'll think. Mike Z-man __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo!
