"That's more than one question, but here goes: Floyd
the barber (no last name given) first appeared in the
episode "Stranger in Town" (episode 12)."

I thought the first Floyd's last name was Colby. In
the episode where the Hollywood producer comes to make
the movie, that's what is painted on his window.
"Colby's Tonsorial Parlor" (but that one might have
had McNear) Could have sworn it was on several
previous shows as well.

Howdy, all. Here's my two cents, for what it's worth. I ain't got nuthin'
agin' Helen. She's alright, I reckon. I figger as long as Andy's happy,
that's good enuff fer me. Miss Mary wouldn't have been bad, though. Maybe
that's jest the East Texan in me that falls for that purty accent of hers!

I have been studing on this Helen thing too, and you
may be right about the "mother figure", although Miss
Ellie and Peggy both gave Andy what for too, I think
he liked strong women, but I have been thinking it was
because Helen was kinda red headed and with Opie being
a red head, this makes us assume that his Ma was also,
maybe Andy had a real soft spot for red headed women.
As for Charlene, no offence but I do not believe she
was educated enough for Andy (don't no body get mad,
cause I love Charlene, she sings like an angel).

Here's a trivia question for all of you trained noticers out there. Who
said, "Holy jumpin' catfish!" and in what episode was it in? I can only
remember this being said the one time I'm thinking of.
Goober: Andy, it sure was nice of you to go back and get Lydia's hair
ribbon. Andy: Goober, will you tell her to quit hanging her head out
the window like a DOG!? Loves Andy in

Subject: Forgivable unrealistic scenes

A few days ago, some were discussing things that happened on the show that
were a stretch of the imagination...such as Hurry-man Tucker falling asleep
still perfectly holding the apple peeling etc.
I watched one of my favorites recently, The class reunion, and this occurred
to me. We know that Andy and Barney had a small class..only 35 invitations
were sent out...and 8 or 9 of those were still in town. Also it couldn't
have been more than 20 years since they graduated. Why couldn't they
remember peoples names??? Jack Sweet...Nate Bracey...Ralph Haynes...(did
Edna Thoge ever make it?) Ramona Wiley forgets Barney??. "It has been a
long time Mr. Fife. What do you know about it!"
I've been out of high school over 20 years, and could probably name 80 to 85
of my class of 100. Couldn't you if you were from a small town? Of
course the answer is, that the scene would not have been quite so funny.

The topic of episode names is a good one. There are several I would have
changed, but thinking about the one the writer mentioned reminds me of one I
would rename. Man's Best Friend...I always call it "Goober's talkin' Dog"
I think the titles at that time were more like literary titles...like a
short story. I don't think they ever thought they would be so scrutinized.

"Harry and I have a boy AND a girl"
 "I don't want to wreck a marriage"
"The tears on my pillow bespeak the pain that is in my heart"

I believe Andy played a few notes on that nice man's organ to test it out
before having the church buy it. Now if I remember right, he played the
organ in that movie "Angel in my Pocket" (one of my all-time favorites
and it featured Jerry VanDyke and Howard Sprague too) at some girly-show
place just trying it out too and some parishioners happened to see him
and jumped to the worst conclusion. It was hilarious! Anyway, that's
the only other instrument I recall him playing so I'm looking forward to
Paul revealing the answer.

Hiddy all!

Yep! Moonshining is still going on! About four years ago I moved into a
house where someone had left us a nice full Mason jar full of PGA. And
about six years ago at a sorority sister's wedding reception (in her
parent's barn and barnyard- complete with hay wagon iced down with beer) on
towards the shank of the evening, a Mason jar or two started to circulate.
It's easy to see how Barney always got so easily gassed!

CONGRATULATIONS! TO YOU, ROSE! BOY! What excitement! What an honor! What
a gal! Lucky you!!!!

I sure do hate that MY local station has put Andy to the side for awhile,
but even when they were still running him, they never ran him in green for
St. Patrick's Day! What a neat treat! Sure wish I could have seen that!

Tommy Merricks, I want you to know that you and yours are in my thoughts and
prayers at this difficult time in your life. Stay strong, hold your head
up, and don't let it "break your spirit". I'm sure your Pa wouldn't want it
that way any more than Gomer's would.

Welcome sweet springtime. Have a Mayberry Day everyone! Now go out and ACT
like somebody!

Hiddy all!

I was watching the "Mayberry Minuet Man" last night and got to thinking
about all of the episodes in which Andy tells a story. If I were a teacher,
I would show these episode's to my classes, because Andy sure could get a
kid to listen! There's 'Paul Revere's Ride', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The
Headless Horseman'. Anyone else remember any others?

About all this talk about a name being either Scottish or Irish. I am
Scott-Irish, and my last name is Lynch, Irish. So, we can be Scottish and
Irish at the same time!

OK. Here's another one that I always think of while I'm watching, but
forget to write in about. Barney is always telling Andy that he belongs in
the funny papers, but the end is usually different. One time it's the
'Kat's and Jammer Kids', another time he tells Andy to put on a dress. I
don't have many of these comitted to memory so I thought my fellow
Mayberrian's could have fun helping me out on this one. Again, anyone else
remember any others?

'The only other vehicle I noticed, besides the squaad car and the farmers'
truck was a station wagon (seen at the very beginning of the episode), but
it
was so far away that it was hard to see.' Janet, I am not sure if it is the
same station wagon that you are refering to, but I have seen one that is in
several episodes, so now I always look for it. There is also an old truck
that I see in a lot of episodes.

Welcome sweet springtime. Have a Mayberry Day everyone! Now go out and ACT
like somebody!

Hey Mike, Glad you asked!
Here are some of my own titles:
Bargain Day : "Call the Man"
Andy Saves Gomer: "The Lifesaver Man"
A Black Day for Mayberry: "The Gold Truck Comes to Town"
A Date for Gomer: "Gomer and Mary Grace"
A Girl For Goober: "Goober Gets a Girl"
The Sermon for Today: "What's Your Hurry?"
Goober Makes History: "Goober Grows a Beard"
I have others, but these are all I can remember for now.
As you can see, I have thought about this a lot! Thanks for the great
question!

Opie: Pa, them dogs are out there. They are out there in that open field.
(Thunder)
I'm worried about 'em Pa.
Andy: Well, you needn't be.
Barney: Opie, you don't have to worry about 'em. What could happen?
Opie: Well, that lightning, what about that?
Barney: Oh, a dog can't get struck by lightning. You know why? Because he's
too close to the ground. See, lightning strikes tall things. Now if they
were giraffes out there, then we'd be in trouble. You sure don't have to
worry about dogs. (Thunder)
Opie: I'm worried about 'em, Pa.
Andy: Ah..
Barney: What were dogs a million years ago, wild animals, right? Wolves,
coyotes, they know how to hunt and fish and look for shelter. You take them
two big Airedales. Why they looked as healthy as horses to me. And the
little spotted one, he was in fine shape.
Opie: But the little one I first came in with, he was a trembler, wasn't he?
Barney: Him? why, the big ones will take care of him. The big ones take care
of their own. (Thunder) And you know dogs have a way of keepin' dry. Ya know
that, They're insulated, you see, they've got this fur...it keeps them cool
in the summer and warm and dry in the winter. They're really set up better
than human beings as far as that goes. (Thunder and lightning) And as far as
the little one goes, why the big ones, they'll take care of him...the little
trembly one...(Thunder) and they're short, you see, close to the ground,
that way they can't get struck by lightning. Now if they wuz giraffes,
they'd have been hit by now, uh..., but dogs are short and they take care of
their own. Giraffes don't. No, giraffes don't at all. Boy, giraffes are
selfish, just run around looking out for number one, getting hit by
lightning, but dogs....(Thunder) You just gonna sit there or you coming with
me??
Andy: What?
Barney: To get them dogs, are you coming with me?

Subject: stumpers

Hi folks,

Here are the answers to my recent trivia questions. Answers are at the
bottom (if you're still trying to puzzle them out on your own, don't scroll
down just yet).

Question A: Which two regular characters (outside of the Darling family)
are seen in overalls?

Question 2: What is the name of the pinball machine in the Tip-Top Cafe?

Question c: What is unusual about the squad car in "Aunt Bee the Warden?"

Question IV: Name every musical instrument that Andy is seen playing on The
Show.

A: Mayor Pike, which two or three people got right, and Goober, who wears
overalls in "The Senior Play" and possible one or two other color episodes.

2: This was a REAL stumper. The answer is United's "Tropics" from 1953. I
would never been able to figure this one out, had I not spotted the same
machine in an episode of Gomer Pyle - USMC (the one where Carter tries to
make Gomer hate him, by making him his "house mouse.")

c: There are TWO different Mayberry squad cars in this episode. The
opening shot shows the 1961 model zooming down a country road, then when
Andy pulls up to the courthouse, it's suddenly the 1962 model. Apparently,
when Andy stopped of at Doc Zack's to have his injured hand treated, he also
stopped off at the Ford dealership to pick up his new squad car.

Side note: Does it strike anyone else as odd that the Mayberry Sheriff's
Department is able to afford a brand new patrol car every year? In other
episodes, such as "Crime-Free Mayberry" and "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs," it seems
they barely have enough funds to meet basic expenses.

IV: This question is only a couple days old, so I'll hold off on the answer
for a little while.
