The kind of horn Andy played had me scratching my head too. The Mayberry 101
book says it's a Sousaphone, but the Sousaphone is the large tube that wraps
around the body and is made strictly for marching bands. There are several
types of tubas, and they are designed to be held. But the one Andy plays is a
B-flat tuba, I believe. If anyone can support or dismiss this, I'd love to
know myself. It's just a compelshun!

In most episodes of TAGS Andy drives the squad car to and from work.
Whose car did he get into in Andy's English Valet

Aunt Bee said something about Miss Edwards leaving her car in the drive and
later in the show Andy mentioned her by first name, but it escapes me at the
moment, when Barney asked if he wanted him to pick him up in the morning. It
wasn't Clara, though.

Why couldn't they
remember peoples names??? Jack Sweet...Nate Bracey...Ralph Haynes...(did
Edna Thoge ever make it?) Ramona Wiley forgets Barney??. "It has been a
long time Mr. Fife. What do you know about it!"
I've been out of high school over 20 years, and could probably name 80 to 85
of my class of 100. Couldn't you if you were from a small town? Of
course the answer is, that the scene would not have been quite so funny.
Don:
In defense of Andy and Barney, and of course it did make a funny episode,
but I remember no more that 2 or 3 of my class. Then I have moved away and
many other things which I'm sure reprioritize, however I agree with you that
in a small town you might think they would remember. I must admit though I
would be hard pressed to do that myself. That has to be one of my all time
favorite episodes, glad you brought it up.

When I was in 8th grade American History class in Pine Bluff Arkansas, our
teacher used Andy's albums (33-1/3 rpm for you youngsters) to help
"sweeten"
the class lessons. We had SUCH fun listening to Andy's stories!!!! By the
way,
he also used old Bob Newhart "history stories" , also. Did any of you out
there
have a wonderful history teacher that used Andy's albums and stories to
teach
and enhance history? I would like to know. hey from the
"slightly-budded-greened-out-treed"
Ozarks

I was a little past the 8th grade at that time but do remember in the south
Andy Griffith records. Bob Newheart as you mentioned was popular at about
the same time.

While we're on the subject, has anyone ever heard of Frick and Frack,
outside of TAGS? Barney once says to Andy, "You're almost as funny as
Floyd. Why don't you two team up? Call yourselves Frick and Frack."
Perhaps this is a reference to a real or imaginary vaudeville act (like Mr.
Bones and Mr. Jones).
******************************************
Paul:
I remeber the Frick and Frack episode. Do you recall "Why don't you get a
job on one of them excursion boats?" and "Why don't you go buy a rubbber
nose and join the circus?"

When Don Knotts pronounced words wrong, did they write that for his
character or did he say that in real life and it was written into the
script? Linda"Skippy" Ruch
********************************************
Linda:
I'm sure that was written into the script unless someone else knows
differently. Such as "You know what's wrong, it's apathy (pronounced like
Apathie), Andy, you mean apathy, Barney that's right pal, apathie. What a
hoot that one was.

Well, he did tell a ghost story about the guy's arm that fell off at the
camping trip where Gomer and Barney used their pioneer moxie. Not only
could
Andy get kids to listen - but Otis craved for him to tell a bed-time story
so
he could go to sleep. On this occasion, Andy - complete in boxer shorts -
told about Jack & the Beanstalk. Barney could also tell some tales. One of
my favorites is about the prune pitting beasto-maristo - you know, that
Winslow girl -ugliest girl he'd ever seen.
Linda - a Goober in mascara

Mayberry Minuet Man? I guess you're talking about Homer in "The Senior
Play."
Goober: Did you ever see a Minuet, Andy?
Andy: Not lately.
Paul
***********************************************In Regard to the beasto
mariesto,"that cheese sandwitch stuck right in my throat, good deal though
half interest in the prune pitting business"
I recall as a child my Mother and Daddy also telling stories like
that(Andy/Barney) My brother was always a ghost teller spoiler, doing
something in the middle of it to sacre us out of our wits. Myabe this is a
southern thing. Does anyone else remember doing this as children?

Yep! Moonshining is still going on! About four years ago I moved into a
house where someone had left us a nice full Mason jar full of PGA. And
about six years ago at a sorority sister's wedding reception (in her
parent's barn and barnyard- complete with hay wagon iced down with beer) on
towards the shank of the evening, a Mason jar or two started to circulate.
It's easy to see how Barney always got so easily gassed!

Yep:
That stuff is plum nasty. In Gainsville Georgia in the very early 60.-'s,
there were some deaths from it to soddering the wires together and creating
lead poisoning, "That ciders gone hard".(Mrs. Mendlebight)

Frick and Frack were ice skaters in the 20's and 30's - I read about them in
an old magazine my grandma had. They did crazy stunts etc and even made some
movies. Just thought you might like to know...

In the uncut version of TAGS for this episode, Aunt Bee tells Andy that
one of her friends (I'm not sure of the name), has left her car parked in
the Taylor driveway. She further tells Andy before she leaves that Andy
is welcome to use the car.

>>>Hhhhmmmm... regarding the different instruments that Andy plays on the
show, I know I'm not as educated as many of you, but as I recall he plays
(well, the guitar of course on many episodes), the tuba on "The Mayberry
Band", he plunks a few notes on the piano on "Barneys Physical" and I think
he plays a horn (I want to say French Horn, but I'm not sure) on "The Sermon
for Today". ...are there more??
>>>

We're getting close here. There's the guitar in numerous episodes, the tuba
in "The Mayberry Band" and "Sermon for Today" (sorry, no French horn in any
episode), the organ in "Church Organ" (as mentioned yesterday) and the piano
in "Barney's Physical." There's one other episode in which he plays the
piano, and there's still one more instrument that no one has gotten yet.
