I am not an TAGS expert and rarely write in (I do read tho). Andy does not
play a Tuba in the Mayberry Band. His instrument of choice is the "Ever
Popular" Baritone. The Baritone sounds like a smoooooth Trombone when played
properly. Many Trumpet players doubled on Baritone to provide a more brassy
sound during Marching Season. I don't want to sound like a " Know-It-All"
but you ain't talking to a dummy you know.

<<The Mayberry prop that they have is an original Mayberry Squad Car that Gene
Autry purchased in 1962.>>

That is so cool! I didn't realize a single one of those cars still existed.
Did they at least say whether it was the '60 or '61? I wonder where the other
seven are/went?

In response to Mr. Grittons question about folks who left Mayberry...I was
watching a episode the other day with the gentleman who had a drinking
problem (not Otis) who left town but returned in this episode to find out his
wife had said he died in an accident and had a grand funeral for him in which
everyone in town showed up it. His name was Tom Silby. A couple of others
who left town were Opie's Hobo Friend (at the urging of Sheriff Andy),
Malcolm Merriweather, and Jim Lindsey. 'Til next time.

I *believe* that Andy plays Barney's "Andre' Kostalanitz Marchers"
cymbals in the epilogue. (If you can't lick 'em, join 'em.)

Ah, I believe we got her if she don't jump. I think Andy clanged
Barney's cymbls together.

You're not Nate Bracey?

Page High School? . . . 1978? . . . let me think . . . was your nickname
"Tweekie"?

Yeah, Richard, I am one and the same. How are you doing?

And thanks to all you guys offering suggestions on how to get a toy squad
car. I found a good deal on one at eBay just this morning.

the toy squad cars are put out by "johnny lightning" and there is indeed 10
different cards but the same car. kay-bee toy stores carried them for a
while and i lucked up and found in one kay-bee where they had 2 packs which
had a tags squad car and blues brothers car for $4.99 for the 2 pack. i
asked them if i could put 2 tags cars together instead of having to buy the
blues brothers car and the clerk was nice enough to let me do it(they could
be slid in and out of the package easily)! this way i got almost the whole
set of 10 different cards at a price of about $2.50 per car! i keep
checking kay-bee to see if they get anymore in but lately haven't been able
to find any tags cars. one of our chapter members did find some a few
months back in the single car packs and got them for us. tim hutcherson -

Subject: a forgotten scene

Hello Friends!
Yesterday on our local station, the "TAGS" episode was the one where Opie
competes for a job to be the delivery boy at a grocery store. I was doing
other things while it was on (shame on me) and I missed some of it, but the
thing I saw that has stuck with me for 2 days now was that final scene. Andy
comes home to talk to Opie after hearing that Opie, after getting the job,
gets fired. Andy, of course, is mad and Opie begins to explain. He tells Andy
that the other boy needed the job to help pay bills because his father was
sick. And Opie is nearly crying the whole time he is telling the story. At
the end of that scene, Andy puts his arm around Opie and calls him a man. I
had not see this one in a long time so I had forgotten about that part. Let
me tell you, I just sat there and cried. Talk about touching episodes...if
any of you have not seen this one in a while, watch it again when you can. It
is a real winner!!
I would love to know there are young people out there today who can be that
touched and moved to action by the problems of one of their peers. It is also
noteable that Andy fixes his parental blunders so well. It is a wonderful
thing when someone can admit they are wrong, while at the same time making
the person wronged feel special. I love that!

So far we've got Andy playing guitar, tuba, piano, and organ. There's still
one left that nobody has gotten yet. Hint: it's in the percussion family.

Could it be that he clanged Barney's cymbals once? One other "instrument"
that he use quite often was his larnyx. He had a lovely singing voice.

Subject: Larry McPeak

As many of you know, Larry McPeak, a very talented singer/songwriter and
member of the musical group, the VW Boys, was diagnosed around 16 months ago
with a fatal liver disease. This was the same disease that Jim Nabors had.
His only hope was a liver transplant.
I am so happy to announce that yesterday, Larry received his transplant
in Martinsville, VA and is doing GREAT!! He is awake and alert but still in
intensive care. He will remain there for around 4 days and then they will get
him up and about.
So many people in the Digest have supported Larry with their thoughts,
prayers and generous donations. We all thank you from the bottom of our
hearts. Please keep Larry in your prayers as he starts this leg of what we
know will be a full recovery.
I will try to post an address where any that want to can send him a get
well card in the next few days.
    Ain't GOD Good!!!
