Well he plays the Euphonium or a baritone. Of course he plays the guitar. He
playes the piano and organ. But, didn't andy play the banjoday" a or
something like that. Barney plays the bongo drums, cymbals, and of course the
harmonica.
Thanks,

< That is so cool! I didn't realize a single one of those cars still
existed. Did they at least say whether it was the '60 or '61? I wonder
where the other seven are/went?>
I think it has been said here on the digest that the ford dealer just loaned
the cars to the
studio for filming and at the end of the year the car was returned to the
dealer who repainted it and sold it as a used car.
It's a wonder that any of cars used on the show survived at all.

Subject: baritone horn
just thought i would mention, since there's been some conversation about
whether or not andy played a baritone horn, that maggie peterson-mancuso's
husband ,gus mancuso,is a baritone horn player and very good one at that. a
new cd by gus was recently released which featured his original recordings
from the late 1950's and also had him teaming with jazz greats such as vince
gauraldi (who made the music for the charlie brown cartoons). the cd is
called "gus mancuso and some friends" and was released in january of this
year. i had to find a store that could order it but it only took me 2 days
to get it. it is a treasure for anyone who likes jazz and anyone who likes
to collect items with mayberry ties. although he is "charlene darling's"
husband the cd doesn't include "never hit your grandma with a great big
stick" tim hutcherson

I watched one of my all time favorite movies - "On Golden Pond" -
for at least the 10th time Saturday night and for the first time
I realized that a TAGS alumnus plays a somewhat significant role
in the movie. I don't know his real name but Ed Sawyer (Stranger
in Town) plays Charlie the mailman. He looks quite a bit older
but the main reason I recognized him was because of his ears -
they're not symmetrical...

Well guess I am breaking my self imposed rule of "rarely writting" but
the question of "Andy's Horn" seems to be of interest up and down
Mayberry land. http://www.dwerden.com/nareuph.asp This site offers
a quite detail explanation of the difference between a Baritone,
Euphonium or ??. The site provides pictures of the instrument in
question and we can all make our comparisons as we recall what Andy
handled. Bob Stallard

I, too, just received the final "Collectors Edition" of The Bullet, a gift
from my pal and fellow wbmutbb chapter member, Steve Kraske. Much respect
to Jim Clark and his "Lady Mayberry" for all their years of dedication to
this wonderful publication. I especially liked the dash of color in the
photos. Didn't Opie look nice in his Sunday suit, err, tuxedo on the back
cover! ;-)

Right! You win the grand prize: four free haircuts. Stop by Floyd's any
time, only don't go the day before the band festival, because Floyd will be
all booked up that day.

Subject: Same Name Game - part A
Here is this week's trivia challenge.
Many TAGS actors have the same first name as their character. For example,
Andy Griffith/Taylor, Elinor Donahue/Walker, and Rodney Dillard/Darling.
All of the questions in this game concern actors (male or female) who appear
in at least one TAGS episode. This quiz has four parts, which I will
present one at a time.
Part A: Which TAGS character has the same LAST name (but not the same first
name) as the actor who played him/her?
If this sounds confusing, pretend for a moment that an actor named Joe
Barnes played a character named Ed Barnes, or an actress named Maria
Martinez played a character named Liza Martinez (these aren't the answers, I
just made those names up). Get the idea?

Ditto! In all our Mayberry humbleness, we salute you Jim! My Bullet issues
go back to 1985 when I was listening to a Lewis Grizzard story on the radio.
He talked about Jim Clark's newsletter. Well, if Grizzard thought it worthy
of mentioning then I just HAD to have a subscription too! When Grizzard
passed on to join his beloved dog Catfish on the other side of the pearly
gates, it made me cry, but I still had my Bullet! When I received my final
issue Saturday the tears on my pillow bespoke the pain in my heart cause
that's where I would curl up to read but at least we now have the eBullet!
May it live on and wave like the breeze over Myer's Lake on a warm summer
evening! Thanks again Jim! You're a prince. My, aren't we lucky to be living
amongst such a fine group of princes?!

Subject: Sunday Night Special
We had a real treat Sunday evening, thanks to the gang from Myberry.
My step-daughter Amy and I enjoyed two Andy episodes Sunday night/Monday
morning on Nick at Nite. "Barney Fife Realtor" and the show where he
tried to get a soused Otis off a cow and on the wagon. Both kept us up an
hour later than we planned and we shared several laughs. Classic comedy,
great Barney episodes. Having them on at midnight is a real treat.
It's a good time for the show, as you prepare for bed and the week ahead.
It's nice to leave the weekend with a smile.
In an aside, Frank Cady was in the second episode. He played Luke, the
drunk in the Mt. Pilot cell with Otis. To my delight, in an ending I have
never seen before, he appears at the Mayberry Courthouse with a gang of
ne'er do wells looking for three hots and a cot from the kindly lawmen.
Funny and great.
I talked with Mr. Cady about a decade ago when he moved to to a golf
community called Charbonneau near Wilsonvile, Ore., where I was working.
I wanted to write a news feature on him, but although he shared a lot of
stories with me and was friendly, he said he was retired and didn't seek
the publicity. Nice man.

"Mountain Wedding"? You know the one where he had to
just let his thumb hang free...I wonder if thats like
a five string banjo...Hmmmmmmm
