Hey friends,
Just a note to let all of you know that Larry McPeak, part of the VW Boys,
went through successfull liver transplant surgery over the weekend. He is
doing fine and his family hopes he will be home by the weekend to complete
his recovery. I hope your thoughts will be with him as he is truly one of
the finest that Mayberry has to offer.

TAGS fans,
Watched "A Date for Gomer" last night. When Andy, Barney and the
ladies leave the dance to go back to Thelma Lou's house, Barney gets in the
back seat with Thel and Helen rides with Andy. But when they pull up at
Thel's house, the ladies are in the back seat and Barney is up front with
Andy. Is my copy missing a scene that would explain this?
Thanks to Jim Clark and company for all the great and hard work
they've done on the printed Bullet!

Jim,
I have all of the issues of the Bullet and have been proud to have collected
it for so many years. Thanks for the many GREAT issues that you put
together over the years. I could not help but feel some sadness as I opened
the last issue after receiving it in the mail last night. What a terrific
issue it is though! I know that you consider it a labor of love, but your
insight and wit have truly made it a fantastic piece. Thanks for your
passion to make all of us "Mayberryites" feel a little closer to Mayberry
3-4 times a year! I will miss getting it in the mail.

There are lots of

I swear, Jeff, I think I'm gonna cry. snif snif You couldn't me more
right, though. Jim has truely been the leader in the promotion of TAGS in
the world today. I salute Jim also, and hope that every member here will
have the opportunity to meet Jim some day. You will remember him as the
nicest man in the world. He's nice.....REAL nice. LOL

Subject: Who left Mayberry??
Thanks for all the feedback on my question about who left Mayberry. Jacob
in Jackson came up with two I hadn't thought of...Harriet the Chicken Thief
and Anita Carpenter also had good ideas.
Remember that I said they couldn't just disappear. It had to be mentioned
that they left, or returned. Here is our list so far.
Gomer Pyle--Went to the Marines
Barney Fife--By virtue of the fact that he returns for visits, after having
left.
Jim Lindsay--The guitarist--similar reason to Barney.
Tom Silby--returns after supposedly being dead.
Using the "returned so they must have left" argument would also include;
Ramona Wiley-Becktoris, Nate Bracey, Ralph Haynes, Sharon DeSpain --return
for the class reunion
as mentioned earlier some left and came back...including Howard and Otis
Thanks...the Untrained Voice.

Samantha and anyone else who likes Don Knotts, here is his address. I
really think that he doesn't sign but doesn't hurt to ask. However don't
feel that he is uncaring if he doesn't as this is due to his failing
eyesgiht.

Subject: Larry McPeak
Hello folks,
Here is the latest update on Larry McPeak. I spoke with Tim White today who
has been in Charlottesville with Larry. Larry is doing GREAT!! As a matter of
fact he is doing so well he is puzzling the doctors. He was told after
surgery he would not remember anything for a couple of days. He was awake and
joking with the nurses 1 hour after surgery. He was told he would be in
intensive care for 3-4 days. He was out in a day and a half. He was supposed
to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks. He will probably be out by this
Saturday. His surgery was on Friday the 13th. He has been up and walking
around since Sunday the 15th.
Larry says he was born on a Friday the 13th. Now he feels he has been reborn
again on Friday the 13th. It will always be a lucky day for him. At the risk
of sounding sacrilegious, Easter was extra special for a lot of us this year.
If you would like to send Larry a card, please send it to the following
address. I have been told that all his mail will be forwarded to his home in
the event he does get out as early as they think.

I know he would love to hear from everyone. He sends his sincere thanks to
you for your support, both through your prayers and donations. Please
continue to keep Larry in your thoughts and prayers as he still has a life
long battle in front of him. He will be taking VERY expensive drugs every day
for the rest of his life.
As the info comes in I will pass it along.
Thanks,
Gary

To follow up on Gary Wedomeyer's recent post about Larry McPeak, I got a
note from Tim White of the VW Boys and thought many of you would enjoy the
good news and could send Larry a card or note.
Great news! Larry McPeak has received his liver transplant. He got the call
last Thursday morning to come to the University of Virginia Medical Center.
They had him a liver. The transplant was done on Friday, April 13, 2001 and
was a complete success ! Larry is doing great ! He wants to say another big
"Thank You" to everyone in the "Mayberry Family" for all the support and
prayers.
We are looking forward to having him back as a regular VW Boy real soon !
His new gospel album is coming along very nicely and should be released by
June of this year. Thought you might like to update folks in Mayberry !
Thanks !

I saw Ed Sawyer (Stranger in Town) on Newhart this morning. The voice
sounded familiar and I had to think for a minute before it came to me,
but there he was, a bit older with white hair but still smiling so
nicely!
