Don't know if its been mentioned here or not, but I heard that TV Land will
be showing Episode #1 of Mayberry R.F.D. on May 16 at 8 p.m. Central
Time...it is apparently a theme night with wedding episodes.

Also, to anyone who gets Turner South Network, or anyone else who has
Mayberry R.F.D. episodes on tape, I would love to get copies of those
programs...I've got about half on tape, but, being a "yankee", I'm out of
luck...If you would be interested in trading tapes or taping some of the
episodes off Turner South, please send me an e-mail directly. Thanks.

Paul,

I believe the answer to the TAGS character but different actor same last
name question would be Denver Pyle and Gomer Pyle.

Well Paul the obvious one is Gomer Pyle named after Denver Pyle.
Then there is Clara Edwards named after Sam Edwards (Lester Scobey)
or is it Sarah Johnson named after Jason Johnson?
Then of course there is Jean Carson who had a shack named after her.
And Paul..How about Warren Ferguson?
Was his name morphed from Warren Parker (Mr. Meldrum)and Frank
Ferguson(Charlie Foley)?
For a moment here, I feel like Paul Mulik, Mayberry trivia master...but I'm
not. I have a secret tool and it ain't oregano.
As Allan suggested a while back, I went to our main webpage and accessed the
character database.
I pasted it into an excel spreadsheet and sorted by actor. Very neat list!
GO ahead, ask me another one.

speaking of references, Mr. Newsome...could you be so kind as to point me
again to the Digest archives? I did not save your message with the link,
and I can't find it on the web...but I remember the password Floyd
Lawson..

did Cavil Coolidge say that?

Wahoo! I want my four free haircuts, shave, trim, Witch Hazel, Eau De
Cologne, the works, if it smells....I want it. And a manicure to boot!

Harriet :}

......

That was easy! It's Denver Pyle/Gomer Pyle. I had read somewhere, where
the writers used his last name on purpose for that character. Am I right?

Carol Ann Perkins

>>>

I knew this one would be pretty easy. Gomer Pyle was indeed named for
Denver Pyle, and since Goober Pyle was more or less named after Gomer,
Goober is correct as well. Gomer's first name was chosen as a tribute to
Gomer Cool, a writer.

OK folks, time to get out the buckets!

A few episodes later in "The Fun Girls" Barney claims to have repaired the

My guess at the same name game is Denver Pyle - Gomer Pyle.
I don't know if it is true, but I heard that Gomer's last name was inspired by
the actor Denver Pyle's last name.

This is my first time to write in, but I think I have an answer to Paul's
trivia question about actor and character names being the same. Dub Taylor
played the preacher who married Charlene and Dud Wash, and of course,
there's Andy Taylor. Right? Love that show!!

Re Paul's question of which TAGS character has the same name as a TAGS
actor...I assume that he is referring to Gamer Pyle (and Goober, too), named
after actor Denver Pyle who played Briscoe Darling.

BTW...saw Denver Pyle and Gamer Pyle together yesterday on Gamer Pyle USMC.
Denver played a tomato farmer...a character that seemed to me to be somewhat
of a cross between Briscoe Darling and Jesse Duke.

Can't believe I sent a message earlier today about Denver Pyle and Gomer
Pyle, and misspelled Gomer as "Gamer"...so much for spellcheck! Maybe Gamer
was Gomer's other cousin. BTW, I think there's a Mayberry RFD that
mention's Goober's sister Gladys...the Pyles sure had something for "G"
names.

Hi Neighbors,
I was watching the "cow thief" episode today where old Luke Jensen was
putting shoes
on the cows and leading them out of the barnyards. As Andy, Barney, Mayor
Stoner,
and the investigator were examining the footprints, Andy asked a very logical
question:
"Where are the prints made by the cow?" They didn't seem to be concerned at
all, but
this would have been enough evidence to convince me on Andy's theory.
lotsa luck to you and yours,

Hello TAGS lovers!

I am responding to two questions from yesterday's digest. The first response
is concerning the episode, "A Date for Gomer." The first broadcast was on
November 25, 1963. I hope that helps you out Dixon! I can't remember seeing
that issue of TV guide, for I am only 29! ; )

And for Jacob in Jackson...I saw the same episode that day, "Aunt Bee the
Crusador," and I was astounded to see that lamp on Andy's desk as well! I
think I know what's happening here, at least in my part of Mayberry. I know
that I have been so accustomed to seeing the edited or cut versions of TAGS
on the Superstation, etc., and then when TVLand starting airing the program
they were showing what I believe to be uncut versions of the episodes. I
have noticed many new and beautiful things from the uncut episodes on TVLand
that I never "noticed" before, however they were never there before to be
"noticed!" That's my hypotheses! See you guys at the fishn' hole!

Hey folks,

A reminder about the archives of the WBMUTBB Digest. You can find them at:

The Archives go back to December of 2000 and I'm considering putting ALL the
archives online there but so far the Archives haven't had much use so I don't
really know if it's worth the effort? I'll wait and see how much what we
already have is used then make the decision. Enjoy 'em!!

Sam,

I had the same reaction when I saw the Far Side cartoon you mentioned. In
fact, I even said something about it to somebody at work. Perhaps Paul or Jim
knows if Gary Larson is an honorary TAGSRWC member and/or is a big fan.

well, it depends on your definition of a "major" character, but the first
set that comes to mind is Goober, George Lindsey (spelling?) and ol Jim
Lindsey.

Chico

PS...Seems like I remember an actor with the last name of Hollister, too.
Then again, it could have just been the euphoric state I'm always in after
watching TAGS.
