OK folks, time to get out the buckets!

Part c: Who appeared on TAGS playing himself?

- - --Paul

This is a complete guess, but didn't Jack Smith, the game show MC when Aunt Bee
won all of the prizes, play himself?

>>>
Does it count that Danny Thomas played himself in the pilot?
>>>

I'm afraid not. That was not a TAGS episode, and anyway, Danny Thomas did
not play Danny Thomas in that episode, he played Danny Williams.

Danny DID play himself once (sort of) on The Dick Van Dyke Show once. It
was the hilarious "It May Look Like a Walnut" episode.

>>>
I am not sure I know exactly what you are looking for, but could it be that
Frank Myers who is a production manager or something of the like a name that
is used on the show.
>>>

Frank Myers the character was named after Production Manager Frank Myers,
but that doesn't count because I specified that it was a cast member, not a
crew member.

>>>
Paul, as to someone portraying themself, are you speaking of Andy's father
Carl when he appeared in that one episode coming out of the menswear store?
>>>

Nope, that doesn't count either. Carl Griffith did appear in that episode
(The Farmer Takes a Wife), but he didn't play Carl Griffith, he was just an
unnamed extra. The character I have in mind is actually referred to by his
real name (that is, his name is spoken aloud by someone).

Seems like everyone is enjoying this "same name game." Part IV is coming
soon, but first I'll wait until someone posts the correct answer to part c.

Presuming you're not counting the pilot as part of TAGS officially, game show
host Jack Smith played himself, as the host of a fictional game show, on
episode #165, "Aunt Bee on TV."

Forgot to mention that Jessie White played on both the Thomas Show and TAGS
and of course the great Mr. Sid Melton, "Uncle Charlie Halper" on Thomas and
Pat Michaels on TAGS. Mr White was Jessie Leeds on Thomas and Fred Boone
on the TAGS show. See what happens when you get your minds on "Think Phase"
for just a little while.

I don't think Danny Thomas played himself in the pilot. On "The Danny Thomas
Show", he played "Danny Williams".

I was watching Three's Company on Nick at Nite last night and saw Sue
Ann Langdon(Mary Simpson from Epsiode 59 Threes a Crowd) playing one of
the girls Aunts. Well, it wasn't long before Ol' Barn, as Mr Furley,
put the moves on her. I always thought Barney had a thing for her and
that's why he would not leave her and Andy alone. Now we know that
Barney wasn't just fond of her pizza.

Game show host Jack Smith played himself, as a game show host when Aunt Bee was
on the show (it was in one of the later, colored episodes).

I had to ask my wife, but she came through for me!

There was an article in the Mount Airy News about rerouting truck traffic
through town. No mention of speeding, but they definitely set up a true
Mayberry checkpoint chickie for "El Trucko's."

http://www.mtairynews.com/cgi-local/top?section=top&story=trucksrerouted

"Truckers who normally rumble their way down Pine Street through Mount Airy
got a surprise Monday as officers set out to let them know they are going
the wrong way...Officers from the Mount Airy Police Department stood in the
middle of what used to be N.C. 89 near the Sara Lee plant stopping trucks
Monday, telling them they can no longer use that route through town."

I certainly hope the truckdrivers don't go gearing down their trucks to keep
people from sleeping at night.
