Wow...We've had a big slow down in folks posting...That's a good thing
because that means folks are spending time with family and enjoying the
outdoors. Maybe even following a web footed, red crested lake loon out of
the woods.

I just wanted to let everybody know that you're not missing issues of the
Digest. They're just further apart than usual. Things will get back to
normal as the summer gets hotter and folks stay inside.

I've not heard of anyone other than General Foods (Post, Sanka, Gaines dog
food, Cool Whip) advertising on "The Andy Griffith Show" during its prime
time run, and they didn't make cigarettes. (Not back then anyway; now
they're part of Philip Morris.) I did see an eyebrow-raising surprise,
though, in the network copy of the first "Mayberry R.F.D.": the middle
commercial was the memorable "You've Come a Long Way, Baby" spot for Virginia
Slims.

What really tickled me was that they were alone when Barney was talking to
Aunt Bee like that. Only Barney would use code even when he was alone!

And he stocks up on cigars when he thinks
he's about to become a member of the Esquire Club ... but he isn't seen
actually smoking one. Generally, it's only the villains who smoke.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't forget the time when he finds the suitcase full of money.  He goes in
to
Floyd's dressed in the ol' salt & pepper looking for some action and has a
cigar in his hands saying how he was going to smoke so many (I can't remember
the number) a day.  Now whether or not it was lit is another question.
Don't know if someone already mentioned this, but I do recall Andy smoking in
the "Prisoner of Love" episode. The lady prisoner had him a little worked up,
so he went home to cool off for a while. After Aunt Bee smelled what was the
prisoner's perfume on Andy's collar, he got up and went outside and took a
smoke before heading back to the courthouse!
I remember the episode when they got the lady prisoner. Andy went home--he
smoked a cigarette on the front porch.
I wish he'd throw something at me, I haven't had lunch yet!
Bruce Willis' mother's name is Marlene.  If you want
pictures of Marlene Willis (Lucy Matthews) the
actress, check MGM's database online, or just type in
her name at www.altavista.com , one of the better
search engines out there.
As far as Andy on other shows, does TVLand ever rerun
the show he did in the early 70's, where he was a
school administrator?  I think it only lasted 1
season, and got horrible ratings.  I always loved the
movie "Winter Kill", where he starred with Sheree
North. va va voom!
Hi Y'all!
I think that Andy "burned one" while Cousin Virgil was working on the jail
cell.  I might be wrong.
Hi 'yall...
 My husband taught his Sunday school class the 1st TAGS Bible study
package. He's teaching the 2nd one now. He wants the 3rd one, but hasn't
had any luck finding it. We attempted to place an order for it at our
local Christian bookstore- but the lady just called me & said that it
was discontinued by the publisher before it was released. What's up with
that? Has anyone seen it for sale anywhere??? I would be much obliged to
any help.
Subject: Gomer & Floyd, Andy's smoking
Haven't posted in a while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been faithfully
reading (and enjoying) the Digest.  Just had a couple of questions/comments.
I recently watched the episode where Barney mistakenly thinks that Andy and
Helen are engaged and I was wondering:  Is this the only episode in which
Gomer and Floyd appear together.  I understand Gomer was brought in to sort
of add another comic figure to the show after Howard McNair had his stroke
and had to leave for a time and Gomer left for the Marines shortly after he
returned.  Too bad they didn't do more episodes together.  I bet their
chemistry would have been wonderful and hilarious.
The other comment I wanted to post concerned Andy's smoking.  I myself have
never been much of a smoker (picture Barney's attempt at smoking in
"Citizen's Arrest") but I think that Andy's occasional drag on a cigarette
gives his character something of a human touch.  What I mean is Andy is
almost "larger than life" at times, but when he is nervous (the Luke
Comstock episode), frustrated (Gomer, Houseguest), or after a particularly
stressful event (delivering Sam's baby), he often takes a thoughtful puff or
two on a cigarette.  For some reason, these scenes often struck me as
particularly poignant.
Well, gotta go now, I think I left the gas and the radio on. GET IN THE CAR!
If that radio shorts the whole house will blow.
Hey Georgia, I love that episode!
In the scene where Aunt Bee and Barney are talking in code, it get even
funnier when, after speaking in code for a few lines, they just use Andy and
Helen's names outright. That always cracks me up!!
Thanks for the memory!
After my last post about the model car decals, I got several requests for
where to get them.  I have found one place online that sells a set of
Mayberry decals, that comes with a bubble light for the top of the patrol
car...
Hope this helps!
