I'm probably the last person on the 'board to discover this, but here
goes...While in a Cracker Barrell waiting for our name to be called, I was
looking over the tapes of old radio programs, and on a collection of
"Gunsmoke" episodes was a publicity photograph showing the players. Now, I
knew William "the Fatman" Conrad was Matt Dillion, and that Howard McNear
played Doc, but I never knew Parley Baer played Chester, the deputy. Neat!

Which leads to a question: Other than TAGS and TAGS-related programs (RFD,
Gomer Pyle, etc., and let's eliminate Matlock, too.) what are other
programs (radio and TV) in which actors from TAGS appeared together?

Hey Gang!

I just received volume 11 of the Columbia House TAGS videos. It's titled
"Ellie Mae Walker." I guess they had her mixed up with Ellie Mae Clampett,
Miss Walker never used her middle name on the show.

To respond to "Andy in the movies", a good place to check out is Suncoast -
a video store usually found in every mall. There, they have a huge book
that records just about every movie, and I'm sure you could find out from
them all the movies Andy starred in. Don't forget the classic "A Face in
the Crowd" and the beloved "No Time For Sergeants".

Lots of luck to you and yours!

The Internet Movie Database is the best source. Go to www.imdb.com and search
for Andy Griffith.

I was listening to a new CD t'other night by a group called Nickel Creek.
One of the songs on the CD is entitled "Sweet Afton". If memory serves me
correctly, I believe the Mayor's daughter (aka Lydia Crosswaithe) sang a few
lines from that song during one episode as part of some official
celebration. On the CD, Robert Burns is credited with the lyrics but the
melody is credited to Chris Thile, one of the members of Nickel Creek. I
don't remember much of a melody coming out of the Mayor's daughter's mouth
but Mr. Thile sure has put the words to a nice tune. The lyrics are as
follows:

Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise;
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.

Thou stock-dove whose echo resounds thro' the glen,
Ye wild whistling blackbirds in yon thorny den,
Thou green-crested lapwing, thy screaming forebear,
I charge you disturb not my slumbering fair.

How lofty, sweet Afton, thy neighboring hills,
Far mark'd with the courses of clear winding hills,
There daily I wander as noon rises high
My flocks and my Mary's sweet cot in the my eye.

How pleasant thy bank and green valleys below,
Where wild in the woodlands the primroses blow;
There oft as mild Ev'ning weeps over the lea
The sweet scented birk shades my Mary and me.

They crystal stream, Afton, how lovely it glides,
And winds by the cot where my Mary resides,
How wanton thy waters here snowy feet lave,
As gathering sweet flow'rets she stems thy clear wave.

Flow gently, sweet Afton, among they green braes,
Flow gently, sweet river, the theme of my lays,
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream,
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb mot her dream.

I'll have to admit there are a few words that I don't quite understand
(braes, cot=cottage?, lave, lea, rills) but it is a very nice song. Maybe
someone can shed a little light on the meaning/interpretation of these
words.

Hi everyone ..

I was cleaning out some old files the other day, and came across some
correspondence from the early days of WBMUTBB? Just so all you new folks can
see how far we've come ... I thought I'd reproduce a few quotes here ...

Now remember .. we didn't have a fancy daily edition digest in the olden days
.. it was a public bbs, and we had to stay ON TOPIC, or the censors would
remove our postings!

Posted on 10/8/92 at 7:33 pm by user KDVS78A
SUBJECT: Andy Griffith Show

Hey Folks,

It looks like things are goin' pretty good around her on the board, a little
slow maybe but isn't that what Mayberry's all about? Takin' things slow and
easy; just enjoyin' the things around us ...

Posted 7/28/94 at 1:26 am

"Here's today's trivia: What does Barney say E.S.P. stands for? I'll give
y'all til Monday on this one cause I'm going to be gone this weekend."

And then .. I found a listing of some memorable one liners!

Some examples ...

"Do you mind tellin' me why you're walkin' at an angle like a dog?"

"I wasn't going to squander it, Paw! Paw? What's squander?"

"You ought to go on the radio and be an all night disc jockey ... at least
then I could turn you off!"

My file had a couple of newspaper clippings too .. an appearance by our good
friend David Browning in Tuscaloosa, in October 1993. The headline reads
"This is BIG!"

and another clipping from the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Gazette, dated July 25, 1992
.. showing Jack Fellenzer with his squad car replica at the Popcorn City
Cruise ...

And there were pictures! Some with familiar names .. Bravetti, Newsome ...
and some brought back memories ... Landon, Shuflin, Haygood ...

And the census of our online Mayberry totalled 112, counting G. Haygood about
4 times, since he used to make up names when his primary ID got suspended for
posting OFF TOPIC!

Have a great week, everyone .. I'll be sittin' on the porch, humming an old
hymn, and trying to peel an apple without breaking the peel.

I got a nice surprise in the mail this afternoon - the latest Columbia House
video featuring Ellie Mae Walker. Episodes include:

Ellie Comes to Town
Irresistible Andy
The New Doctor
Ellie Saves A Female

I haven't watched it yet, but I'm sure it will be every bit as good as the
first ten tapes. Thank you Columbia House - only 215 more to go!

Actually, she did. Andy read her name of her degree from Bernard University.
He said "Ellie Mae Walker, PhG? PhG..Pharmacy Gal?" Or it was something
very close to that.

I believe I'm right....could be wrong though.
