Speaking of new suits...... In addition to Jeff Pruitt, Rafe Hollister and
Opie got new suits. Of course Barney had the "old salt & pepper" - no
telling how old that particular set of threads was --- and Andy's suit pants
had "hot knees". Anyway, I'm getting to the meat of my comment here ---- I
bought a new suit for my hubby yesterday - 50% off and some new black socks
that seem pourous but maybe his leg hairs won't poke through. When he tried
on the suit, I told him he looked good enough to get buried but I think he's
just going to wear it to work, church, and the Chamber of Commerce dance. He
can also wear it on a trip to Chinatown if we decide to get really wild one
evening.

Hello Mayberry friends!
I dont post here often, but I love reading the Digest! Some of you know me
from the prayer list. I just wanted to share that I used to be one of
those TAGS fans who does not care for the color episodes. By chance,
though, I saw the spaghetti episode (sorry, dont know all the names) and
enjoyed it very much. So, I have been watching a few more of the color eps
that have been on TV Land lately, and you know what? They're goood! True,
they dont hav e the same "feel" as the B&W, but neither do some other shows
I enjoy! Mayberry in color is WAY YONDER better than a lot of other things
my kids could be watching! I know some of you dont care for the color
episodes, and I guess thats okay, but if any of you are like me and have
never seen most of them, give them a chance. They're nice, real nice!
More power to ya!

I am sure these scenes have been brought up but mine are put into different
categories..serious and funny.

#1 serious...Andy on Trial..when Barney gives his speech. "Andy's more than
just a Sheriff, he's a friend and the people in this town aint' got a better
friend than Andy Taylor"...."when you're a lawman and you're dealing with
people, you do a lot better if you go, not so much by the book, but by the
heart...I don't know maybe that's hard for some of you to
understand"...classic, puts a lump in my throat as I type it.

#1 funny...Governor vists Barney..."the Governor's comein' here,... to shake
my hand". Andy, "yes". Barney, "bless his heart".....I love it and have
since I was a little kid.

And I have asked this before, but right before Barney says "bless his
heart", Andy is telling Barney the Governor is coming and Barney
says.."sure, Mike"...does anyone know what this means, even if you lie aobut
it ;). I of course say it to everyone and everybody says "whose Mike".....I
love it.

Subject: Who paid for the food???

Never mind ol' Jeff Pruitt's suits. Who paid for all those breakfasts
and lunches that Aunt Bee supplied to prisoners, guests, and Barney??
And what about all those cakes she and the church ladies were making in
the kitchen before Aunt Bee became Otis' warden in the jail annex? One
of my favorite things to do when I watch the show is look behind the
action at the prices on the store windows. Wow. Those were the days!!!
I bet they could eat for a week for $20 and still have company. I
wonder if Andy could deduct his whole food bill since he fed the
prisoners -- out of a kitchen that the Health Department would have
approved anyway.

OTIS: Say, that food smells pretty good. I could never get anything
like that at home.

ANDY: Sure you could. I bet your wife'd fix you a nice big breakfast
if you'd go up to her in the morning and give her a great big kiss.

OTIS: Please, Andy. Not while I'm eating.

Thanks to all - Snappy Lunch

It took a long while but I too enjoy the color episodes as much as the classics.
I even have a color show in my top ten: The Wedding (aka Howard's Swinging
Singles Party.) I love the scene when Emmett crashes the party and ends up being
the hit of the evening with his dance routine. That episode has a lot of great
lines in it:
"Go man, go!," "Anyone want a swiss cheese sandwich?," "And still they come,"
"Howard and I couldn't get no girls," "It's been a real bash Howard."

I remember in the mid-80's, WGN tried broadcasting the color shows in B/W to
improve their ratings.

It's
our good friend Andy Griffith! Happy Birthday, old friend!

Hey, did anyone happen to notice the little-known fact, that Andy and Marilyn
Monroe were born the *same* day? Maybe Marilyn would still be with us if she
adhered to Reverend Breen's message, "What's your hurry?"

The TAGSRWC website mentions a Motorola Mo-Trac being the most likely radio
in the squad car, but an Alabama State Trooper told me a particular model
from General Electric could be another candidate. It looks nothing like the
Mo-Trac, instead it looks like one of those pre-digital police scanners.

BTW, Paul, what year is your car?

I hope everyone checked out Nope's website. All I can say is "he's a nut!".
I know he means well, but he's still a grade-A nut!!!

Seriously, the website is very funny and defiantly different. Keep up the
good work. Obviously you have a big imagination. Know what his imagination
is? BIG!

Hope no one takes you out back anytime soon, because I would hate for you to
get behind on the website. And besides, anyone thinking you should take him
out back, let me warn you. He'd kill you.

>>>Just noticed a few nights ago in the "big Jeff Pruit" episode how they
bought Jeff a suit. It seemed the sherrif's office was always quick to buy
new suits. Who paid for them?
>>>

The government gives released convict a new suit of clothes so they can
start life fresh. You've seen it in the jailhouse picture shows. Actually,
Andy probably pays for the new duds himself. He also buys a suit for Ernest
T. in "My Fair Ernest T. Bass."

>>>And what about hiring all those extra deputies? Did the tax payers
object?

The deputies probably had to pay for their own uniforms (in both "Barney's
Physical" and "Ernest T. Bass Joins the Army," Barney says that he paid for
his himself.) As far any wages paid to the temps, the good citizens of
Mayberry were probably only too happy to pay an extra penny or two in taxes
for the peace of mind that came with an extra man on the force once in a
while.

I vaguely remember the line where Andy was bemoaning
the fact that Mayberry didn't have a
psychiatrist/psychologist, because Barney would have
been a real case study.

I stumbled across a website that analyzed the effect
Barney had on Andy and the good citizens of Mayberry.
It's very analytical, but I think this guy has too
much time on his hands!
