In "Bargain Day," Opie frantically reports that the TV is
malfunctioning. "Paw, Paw, the television's going crazy! The picture's
crooked and fallin' down the stairs!" (We don't SEE anyone watching TV in
this episode, but it must have been on).

I use that one all the time! That is a fav of my Grandma's too, but she
didn't get it from TAGS. Man, do people think I am nuts when I say that,
even nuttier when I explain it. Couple that with "NOBODY MOVE" from 'A
Christmas Story' and I am all set for a brownout, power surge etc.

Watching "Aunt Bee Learns to Drive," I wondered: what make, model, and year
car does Aunt Bee buy from Goober? It's pretty cool looking. And how about
that funky transmission--my hubby says they used to call it "three on the
tree."

Hello TAGS fans!
Could there be anything funnier than when we were first introduced to Goober
on the show? Remember? He and Gomer were at the dance with Helen and Thelma
Lou while Andy and "Bernie" were with those two wild women with masculine
voices. Well, as youll recall,; Goober does the worlds worst imitations of
Edward G. Robinson and and Cary Grant.( Jooody Jooody Joody) ("Ahl rite you
guys...lets go you guys..lets move it you guys"...)

Dont you think that Mayor Stoner was weak compared to Mayor Pike?

Dear TAGS friends:
As you recall; Hal Smith(Otis) drank many a "hangover elixir" on the show.
The concoction was Orange or Tomato Juice, A raw egg, hot sauce, and other
ingredients, but what was truly in the glass? He didnt DRINK that poison did
he or did the producers switch the glass to straight juice?

I can remember quite a few times the tv was on, but you're right, they
spent a lot more time on the front porch with friends than on the couch
with the tv guide! Some I recall are...

*That travel show that gave Howard the travel bug
*When Aunt Bee had her own cooking show
*When Howard was some kinda romantic poet reader
*When they watched to see the lady who replaced Aunt Bee in the
furnture polish commercial
*And didn't Andy catch Aunt Bee watching one of them doctor shows in the
middle of the day?

Misspoovey is old enough to remember when most adults felt it was
shameful to watch tv during the day. Like you were neglecting more
important things. Even back about 6 years ago before my granny-in-law
passed on, if you would walk in on her watching the tube, she would
quickly turn it off and say she was "jest checkin' the tubes." Bless her
heart!

But color or
black and white, the whole point to the show is the relationship between

Barney and Andy. Once that's lost the appeal diminishes. Tom in
Montana

I hate negative comments about the Color eps. It rolls around
far too often for my test. Tom am not referring to your comments there.
What got me was "the whole" piont of the
show. I believe a more true point of the show was Andy trying
to raise opie with values. Mayberry its Mayberrians and its visitors
were the backdrop as well as a part of that. Mayberry
was always the centerpiece. Barney was a late developement
to the series idea. Barney is a great part of mayberry, not the
only part of mayberry. Alot of what is Mayberry can be found
throughout the "color and B&W" complete series.

Subject: More Silent Scenes

Ok, here are some more.

This one i'm not sure counts, because Andy's listening to a
radio...but it's SOO funny. At the begining of "Convicts at Large" when
Andy's listening to the man talking about the convicts and Maude's aleisis <
- --(can't spell that AT all) and when he gets to "Ralph Henderson" Andy's
expression cracks me up so much the way he just looks down at the radio.

Also...in the episode where Barney get's BLUE.....I LOVE the scene
where Niel and Andy are walking towards the door so that he can take Andy
hostage, and right when they open it, Barney moves in SO quick, and the music
is like "Bum bum bah bum!"

Last but not least...(this one's SO funny to me) , in the episode
where Gomer joins the Marines. In the scene when Gomer says to Carter,
"That's my friend Andy Taylor over there.....SAY HEY TO THE SARGE ANDY!"
Then it cuts to just a far away shot of Andy like, partially waving but
trying to be avoided at the same time. It's so funny.

Well...I'm gonna put some more up when i think of some more. Hey, GREAT
disscusion topic whoever started it. (sorry can't remember your email)

Lots of luck to you and yours!

For Georgia in Mississippi and Bob Smith (Carolyn).
This is about the slit shoes. If the shoes are too tight you would split
them open to let a
toe out. This usually happened on the little toe side of the shoe. My
grand-mother told
me about this when I was younger. A lot of people would do this during
the
   Depression.

   This is for Kelly.
Now about the recruiter. Be on the WBMUTBB (digest/archives) web site
and click on my name (view other messages by this author) and look for Sat.
May 12, you will see
where I had put the info about this character and other people he played
on the show.
   He name is ALLEN MELVIN.

   I hope both answers help.

   Margaret

For some reason the name "Rhoda Apfel" popped into my head this morning.
Didn't Andy mention her once upon a time: maybe in the episode where Barney
keeps reading the newspaper to Andy ("Guess who's getting married?"). At
any rate, it struck me as funny that, since "Apfel" means "apple" in German,
and "Rhoda" is quite like "road" ... maybe the writers were indulging in a
tiny bit of scatology. On many a rural walk in my childhood I heard my dad
caution me to walk around, rather than through, a "road apple."

TAGS fans,

The letter from "Tom Silby" about the psychologist disecting Barney
and other TV characters, and how we often do that with shows, finding
hidden meanings in what was meant to be entertainment reminds me of a quote
from my favorite writer, C.S. Lewis, "I often wish I had been smart enough
to put in my writings some of the things people have found there."

Does anyone know the reason(s) why TAGS began showing episodes in color?
Was it just coincidence that the colored episodes did not begin until after
Don Knotts left the show? Certainly, "color" was available prior to 1965.
As an example, you can see a very young Ron Howard in the movie version of
The Music Man which was made in about 1963.

I really like all of the Andy Griffith shows and I am one who prefers
the color episodes. I know that goes against the grain but I have
enjoyed some of the shows lately on TV Land. Aunt Bea getting her
driver's license, the high school reunion, and the making of "Sheriff
Without A Gun." I do enjoy the B/Ws as well. I am not saying anything
against them. In fact I really like Andy Griffith in whatever he did.
We watch Matlock during the afternoon and Andy Taylor at night.
Um. . .does Andy subscribe to this site? Does he really know what an
impact he has made on many of us? Just wondering?
Keep up the wonderful website!
