Hey Aunt Bee...and anyone else interested in Andy's bio. Did you know you
can purchase a copy of it on video from A&E? I have been meaning to purchase
the one on Don Knotts. I bought a copy of Andy's bio at a video & music
store call Media Play (they are also at www. mediaplay.com).

I enjoyed watching A&E's biography on Andy and learning more about the man we
hold so near and dear to our hearts. Now...if I'd only get on the stick and
purchase Don's bio. I know, I know.... "Just call the man!"!!!

Anyone wanna pickle before the next inventory?

Here's a question for all you TAGS experts......While
watching the episode in which Sam Jones runs for town
council, Emmett was talking to a man getting ready to
go fishing. The actor was a dead ringer for Howard
Hessman of WKRP fame....however, the credits listed
the part of Harry as played by Don Sturdy. Could the
credits have been incorrect, or were my old eyes and
ears playing tricks on me?....Also, the Griffith Bio
on A&E I keep reading about....Is this the same one
they've shown before?

I've been reading the digest on everyone seeing Hope Summers in different
things other than TAGS. She was also in the film "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken"
with TAGS own Don Knotts. I'm sure everyone knew that, but noone has bothered
to mention it, so that's my two cents worth on that. She was up in a window
when Barney walked by and she was screaming.

I sure do enjoy the digest everyday. I love checking my e-mail anyway and I
know that if nobody sends me anything, the digest will be there for me to
enjoy. Thanks so much Allan for all the hard work you put in to this digest,
etc.

Andy and the Truck--

It must have been Andy's truck, he was washing it in one scene when Barney
came over. And by the way, was Andy and Barney cousins?
I remember in the same scene Barney telling Andy that everyone was kidding
him about being the deputy, and Andy told him not to fret. He was the most
qualified for the job, and Barney said, "I want to thank you, cousin Andy."

Dear Tags Friends. I was wondering about something, since there are so many
things out there for the Andy Griffith, and Barney lovers, I would like to
know if there are any premade tapes for our answering machines with sayings
from the Andy Griffith shows, if so I would like to hear about them and where
i could get them. if there is no such thing, Somebody needs to invent them, i
think they would be a great hit. Does anyone agree with me out there? I will
be waiting to hear from all you tag friends. "Well I'll see ya" " Tell

In the beginning of 'Crime Free Mayberry', Andy is singing to Otis.
What song is this and are those all the words? I'd like to sing this
one to my kids, but Andy only sings it for about 25 seconds and it just
HAS to be longer than that.
And what about 'The Wreck of the Ole 97'? Anyone know anything about
this one?

Thanks for the help, and remember: Relax, slow down, take it easy.

Subject: Andy and Barney

Well, I ain't had nothing but time to set under the old thanking bucket,
and I have thanked and thanked and now that we are in the colored shows
it's easy to pick on our beloved Andy, but what I tried to do was to find a
time when Andy was less than perfect in a B/W episode--now that is hard to
do. Especially in his relationship with his pal Barney. Those two have a
relationship that is forged deeper than mere friendship; it's much deeper
than many brothers have for each other. No matter what happens, you KNOW
these two men will always be there one for the other. It seems Andy is
always coming to Barn's rescue, trying to mend his delicate ego or giving
him the credit when it properly belongs to Andy. But I am a determined girl,
and finally I did find one pitiful example of when Andy used his wits
(and--lets face it--Andy knew
he was smarter than Barn) to take advantage of his friend.
Do you know when it was? Bet you do.
It happened when Andy had gotten Miss Ellie all mad at him and she had
broken off their date for the town picnic to go with "the first unattached
eligible man that comes through that (pharmacy) door." Alas,
our poor Barney, who just wandered in for some foot powder, was that man,
and he became her "rebound" date.
Aunt Bee put Andy up to the idea of talking Barney out of the date, and Andy
went along with it by telling Barney it was liable to be a big crime day
(knowing that was nonsense) but that was the very story to get Barney
excited enough to call off his date with Ellie and let Andy take her. It
worked, of course. So was Andy mean?
Well, kinda of. And so was Aunt Bee. In fact, I wonder if Andy would have
even thought of doing this if Aunt Bee had not given him the idea.
But, of course, he did not have to act on it.
However, the good that Andy did toward this man far outweighed any bad. He
truly loved Barney. He watched out for him the way any older brother
would protect his younger one. Andy fully recognized Barney's weaknesses,
but he allowed no one else to use those weaknesses against
his friend. That's why their bond with each other is so special. Deep down
Barney was as aware of his short-comings as any other person even
Andy was, and Andy's acceptance of him as a friend would never be based on
what Barney could do for Andy--but simply because they enjoyed each other's
company. Andy gave Barney the best he had, and Barney--in his own way--did
the same. Their gifts were different; Andy was always reasoned and
calm--Barney was filled with emotion and with the enthusiasm of a child. On
the surface they were as different as two people could be and you wondered
why they ever became friends in the first place.
If it seemed sometimes as if Andy gave more than Barney, I don't believe
Andy seemed to mind. Maybe early on Andy realized the inequity of their
gifts and took on the role of the big brother, The Protector, for Barney
right from the start. "To whom much is given, much is required."
At least, that's the way I see it. And maybe that's the way Andy saw it
too. However their relationship came about, we are all the richer for
it. It is, without doubt, the best written male/male relationship ever
written for television (a kinda close second is the odd-couple).

I have a question about Ronald Bailey. In this episode, was Ron's dad
supposed to be a mobster or a big wig politician? He talks about his
dad sending one of his men down to straighten Andy out. With that kind
of talk, it could go either way. I guess he wasn't around for Dr.
Breen's sermon.

This is where we keep our most incorrigible prisoners.
