Did any of you happen to see Aunt Bee on the first episode that was on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" on TV Land Monday, June 18? She sounded and looked the same as always. The date for the show was 1955. The title was "Revenge". Gary M. The other day I was pulled to the TV from another room by the voice of our beloved Floyd. Lo and behold, it was The Flintstones. The voice was a doctor. I wasn't able to stick around for the credits. Does anyone know (and I know someone does!!) if Howard McNear was ever a voice on The Flintstones? Was surprised to see the welcome, but it was very nice. Thanks for the Info on Opie Taylor's in Bloomington. I just hope that Aunt Bee's kerosene cucumbers don't come with the sandwiches and fries. I'll try to make my way there sometime this summer. Thanks again! Who needs stress relievers and such?? There is something incredibly peaceful about Mayberry. If everyone could just stop and pattern their lives around those in Mayberry, the world would be a MUCH better place. We live in a small town called Briar,TX. It is about 25 miles outside of Ft.Worth. Unfortunately, towns like ours are rapidly being swallowed up by ever-growing metropolitan areas. All I can say is keep Mayberry and it's townsfolk in your hearts and minds, you'll be better off! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 08:19:33 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Phone Messages I hate to make you folks jealous, but speaking of phone messages, I have a doozy of a TAGS message on my machine. I got in touch with David Browning a few years back and asked him if he would do a message in Barney's voice. He said he would be glad to do so. I sent him a blank tape, and within a couple of weeks, he sent me 7 or 8 messages, all custom made for my family and phone number. I now have some folks like doctor's offices and dentist's offices who will call, then back 2 or 3 times to let others hear! It is awesome!! I was wondering if this was one of the last episodes that howard mcnear did. The reason I asked is that he seemed very bad off. I could hardly understand what he was saying. Does anyone know if it was his last? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 11:04:38 -0500 From: Paul Mulik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: TAGS trading cards >>>The first is, howmany cards are in the set? I have noticed a couple of duplicates in what I have and qould like to know if it is a complete set for sure. The second is, do they have any kind of value? There are 3 sets of TAGS trading cards. There are 110 cards per series, for a grand total of 330 cards. The first series (cards #1 - 110) are getting hard to find; a sealed set is worth maybe $30 - $40. Series 2 and 3 are much more common, and are worth maybe $8 - 10 at best. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 13:11:35 EDT From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: wbmutbb-digest V3 #170 Dear Distingusied friends of Mayberry: In viewing last nights episode(which I waited 10 years to hopefully catch on TV)"The Ball Game", I realizied that it wasnt the episode where Howard McNear does his unforgettable performance of "Power Man " to Andy. Its the episode where Andy is asked to judge a beauty contest! Andy starts puffing out his chest about being selected beauty contest surveyor and Floyd puts him in his place. (AIT)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Pickups and Splashes from Floor and Pool First of all, I had to get my two cents worth in on answering machine messages. (that's all, a piddling two cents...I should be ashamed, poor Horatio) I also have used the Desktop program that is available on the TAGSRWC website. There is a .wav file that plays the opening song (The fishing hole being whistled). When I go on vacation, I put a message on my work Voicemail with that theme song music playing in the background saying something in my voice like "I'm not here this week, I'm on vacation...yup taking a little time off to go fish, or just loaf or other things I enjoy. You just leave your message here and it'll be waiting for me when I get back. Don't try to track me down...no phones or beepers where I'm going...have a good week now, ya hear....(music fades out) Last Sunday I sat out all day at a softball tournament. I know that I burn easy so I left my shirt on, and tried to sit so my arms were shaded by my body most of the time. Had a hat on (didn't want to get my face burned at some "grim" lady lawyer's pool ya know) , and just a little leg showing between by shorts and socks. but you know what I got. HOT KNEES! Sun burned right there on both knees...and Aunt Bee didn't even just press my pants. But I sure know how Andy felt now...Ouch... Hot knees. >>Welcome to all the new neighbors, and especially to Chad from Indy. I'm Kathy from Bloomington. Wanted to let you know that if you don't make it to the Mayberry Cafe in Danville, at least you could make it down to Bloomington to eat at Opie Taylors! :-) SMOKEY Bloomington, IN<<< Hey Chad and Smokey...you can also come north a few minutes to Noblesville to Aunt Bee's restaurant and see the big 400 pound chicken, but don't come hungry, the restaurant is closed. Actually Chad, I highly recommend you get over to Danville to the Mayberry Cafe. It's GooooD. Jim Nabors stops by there about every year he is in town for the Indy 500. I don't know if any of you saw ole Jim on TV singin' before the Indy 500, but he had on a white ballcap. If it would-a had a little grease on it, he woulda really looked like good ole Gomer. Gooollly! Isn't in strange that you can walk right in to the Mayberry dump and look around for stuff (ala the Lucky Letter and Opie's Newspaper). Has anyone ever gone to a real dump to try to find something??? Fishin around in dumpsters don't count. It was clean and safe enough for even Aunt Bee to be out there prowlin' around....well clean if you don't count Barney's girly magazine with those articles by famous authors. I didn't know they were shown on the TAGSRWC web site but that sure helped. I now have more questions... 1) there are only 220 cards shown on the web site but I have 330 minus a few here and there I'm missing...(WHY is there only 220 on the site?) 2) Speaking of the few I'm missing...where can I get my hand on the ones I'm missing? They are card #'s 129, 135, 137, 145, 151-165, 308, and 309. Not to bad to only be missing 21 cards out of 330 and they were given to me. Again, I thank you wonderful Mayberrians in advance and if anybody knows anything or has any info post to the digest or e-mail me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jacob in Jackson, TN "Nip it! I love it when I read the Digest and I learn things I never knew. And I would love it even more if some of the things I could learn would be (l) The true identity of that master character actor in the zenith of his career, our own beloved man of a standard facial expression that worked for him in all occasions, Mr. Schwamp. I still want to believe he may be the real Johnny Coons. Please, Lord, let it be. (2)The identity of my Mystery Lady. She never talked, nor was she in the choir, but she prettied up the crowd and streets scenes quite often and was never listed in any credits that I could detect anyway, probably because, like I said, she never talked. If you have a "Mayberry Memories" book--and if you don't, you need to pitch yourself a perfect fit until somebody buys one for you-- look on page 27 for a faint picture of my lady. Andy called her "Nellie" and complimented her for her pretty dress as she was coming out of her cell (the episode was the one when Barney arrested the town). You find Tom Jacobs in the white hat, see two guys in brown/gray hats, and Nellie is right behind them. She appeared in the Newton Monroe episode also. She and her "husband" were trying to buy some Chinese bowls when Barney and Andy broke off the sale. I just love that Newton Monroe episode, don't you? It seems to be one of those shows we don't talk about as much as others here, but when I watch it I really get a kick out of it. Barney spending two dollars on Thel's birthday gift after the fur came out in "bunches, bunches!" on her first gift. He's all heart, our Barn. But the kicker is he bought the second gift from, of all people, Newton! Oh, I got off my main subject, but that's what this show will do to you. And that's why you can't have a down day and be an Andy fan. No matter what's prayin' on your mind, just draw a memory of that beloved show. Just a line--any line from that show. Remeber how long our favorite "one liners" ran? We were quoting almost entire episodes! Take a laugh from Barney or Floyd, or look at things from Mr. Darling's socially incorrect but basically heart-right thinking, and you just feel a whole lot better. You know you're not alone in the world. There are other decent, but flawed people out there, just like us, doing the best they can, failing often, but laughing at themselves and loving each other, most of the time anyway, and getting up to try again. Almost all of the people on this show could express their needs without feeling like the others would withdraw their love or kindness from them just for doing so. And, on the other side of the coin, haven't we all wanted to throw a rock with a message attached? I know I have. So, that's all for now. If you can help with my Mystery Lady, I'd appreciate it. And if you haven't got a "Mayberry Memories" book, just pitch a fit about it, but do it in a sweet way--you know, the Mayberry way so nobody will be too mad at you. Laura Lee Hobbs, dime store clerk & gold truck watcher extraordinaire and occasional rock thrower--but I do it in a sweet way and my messages are never dirty (appox.--but close, I think!) "Between here and Denver is seven million dollars, and you and me and Gomer and Laura Lee Hobbs are gonna be here to receive it." ------------------------------ End of wbmutbb-digest V3 #171 ***************************** ************************************************** ~ Visit our sponsor ~ Weaver's Department Store ~ http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/weavers/ ************************************************** You must send your comments to the Digest from the address you used to join WBMUTBB or your message will not be posted.
