Hi,
Just watched the A.G. show where Opie and his friend find a baby that
was left on the court-house step. Was really shocked to see that the
husband of the woman who left the baby was played by Jack Nicholson. Was
this his start in movies or what? he was "on" a whole two minutes or so
and only had about two or three lines to speak. Also, another question
that's been bugging me for a long time, whatever happened to Andy's
wife? Did they ever say in the show? Thanks, and ya'll come back now,
y'hear ?

Hello:
The governor of Ark. visited Jonesboro today and took a tour through our state
police headquarters.
While watching the news about his visit, the first thing that popped into my
head was that I hoped that no one ticketed the governor's car for a parking
violation. Now that would have been funny!

Hey Folks,

Just saw the various posts on TV Land's Mayberry R.F.D. Marathon, and in
the words of Barney.. "This is BIG!". I'm glad they've given such
advanced notice, now we can all gear up our VCRs for the big event!

Subject: dinner before Pigeon Forge show on Monday

I would like to extend a hearty eatin' welcome to anyone attending the
"Evening with Don Knotts" show this Monday, June 25 in Pigeon Forge,
Tennessee. The "Mayberry" chapter of Knoxville, Tennessee will be
meeting at the O'Charley's Restaurant in Pigeon Forge at 5:00 pm on
Monday before the show. It is located just a block or two from the
Country Tonite Theater where the show is on the same side of the street.
The restaurant doesn't take reservations, but if you want to join us,
just ask Juanita for the "Mayberry chapter" and she'll point you our way.

We sure look forward to meeting some other folks from the digest there.

More power to ya,

Dennis ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Dear Tags friends:
I was just thinking about some of my favorite TAGS quotes..

Frisco Darling to Aunt Bee when offered more food.."Ohh , no thank ya maaam!
Ive
reached my High Water mark."
And I LOVED that episode where Aunt Bee gets "gassed" by drinking too much of
the Colonels Elixir. Especially where the Colonel sent smoke signals to Opie
with his cigar.
What a fantastic TV Show!!!

Sincerely,

Maybe we've been fooled all these years and have missed the obvious: Thelma
was her first name and Lou was her last name ;-).

Hey Folks,

I just wanted to let y'all know that I'll be out of touch begining this evening
and through most of the next week. There are several Mayberry events going on
with the BIG one coming up in Nashville on Thursday - Saturday of next week.

I'll be in Brent, AL tomorrow for their "Mule Day" celerbration. Then its up to
Pigeon Forge, TN for the Evening with Don Knotts with Betty Lynn, and Howard
Morris at Country Tonite Theater on the 25th.

Then I'm gonna try and check in on Tuesday night and Wednesday then "I'm
heading to Nashville!!" for the June 28-July 1, 2001: Mayberry Reunion Weekend
at Opryland!!

I hope to see a lot of you there but I wanted to let y'all know why you might
not hear from me if you email me or anything while I'm gone.

There are still tickets left to these events and if you can make it to the
shows in Nashville or Pigeon Forge, I encourage you to do so!! The information
is on the "Event Calendar" at the TAGSRWC website.

Thanks to Dixon for that thorough response concerning "The Great
Gildersleeve".I do believe that a lot of those old shows were hilarious.

That brings me to another point. How good would TAGS have been on the radio?I
guess the many silent scenes that have recently been discussed might lose a
little (heh heh),but I figure it would have been just about as
funny, anyway.Just imagine how intriguing it would be be to try to put a face
with Gomer's voice. It would be fascinating to see if the writers could have
created the same warmth in the Andy & Barney friendship without benefit of the
physical comedy,too.

They probably teach this in some TV sitcom writing school somewhere in a
class titled "How to write a funny scene only using 2 words."

Barney (whispering): Nate Bracey.
Andy: Nate Bracey, Nate Bracey, Nate Bracey.
Nate: Nate Bracey!

Folks, never forget the caliber of writers TAGS had.

I've got a theory on thelma lou's last name. Maybe her last name is Lou.
Maybe her first name is
just plain ole' Thelma. I've known people called by their first and last
name.

Motor City Greetings!

I am new to this digest so I am not sure if this question has been asked
before. Does anyone know what the actresses Aneta Corsaut (Helen Crump) and
Josie Lloyd (Lydia Crosswaithe) did before and after TAGS? Has anyone seen
either on other television shows and/or movies?

Subject: Mayberry teachers

>>>As a teacher, I cannot help but think about the educational system of
good
old Mayberry. Do you realize that Opie had Miss Crump for a teach for all
the years he went to school except for the first grade?
>>>

Actually, Miss Crump didn't become Opie's teacher until the middle of his
third grade year (the episode was "Andy Discovers America;" she replaced
Miss Warner). He had Miss Johnson in first grade ("Alcohol and Old Lace")
and Miss Cox in second grade ("The Bookie Barber.") For them that don't
know, the title "Andy Discovers America" was more-or-less borrowed from one
of Andy's early comedy routines about Christoper Columbus (aka "Crazy
Chrissie.")

>>> Of course, the Mayberry Town Band was so goooooooooood, that perhaps the
high school band was afraid they would not be as good.
>>>

It's true that we never see the high school band, but we do hear musicians
in "The Senior Play." They were presumably high school students, and they
sounded VERY professional, much better than any high school band I've ever
heard (and they even have a HARPSICHORD!) Those of you who assumed that the
dancers were using recorded music are mistaken. How do I know? When the
principal yells at them to "STOP IT!" the instruments don't all stop
precisely at the same time.
