Andy's wife died. Can't remember the name of the episode, but in the first
year, there is a photo of her on Opie's desk in his bedroom. Aunt Bee
mentions how much Opie looks like his "dear beloved mother before she died".

I saw my local station tonight rerun the episode in which Barney and Andy are
asked (by an arrogant state detective) to stay out of a local manhunt. First
Barney pretends to be a fellow inmate ("I've been called everything from
'Chopper' to 'Mad Dog'...one thing I've never been called is 'Tattletale'!"),
and inadvertently lets the guy out...then he and Andy catch up with him and
his girlfriend at a trailer park. That's where Barney highjacks the car
pulling their trailer, driving it right up to the courthouse door.

Anyone else remember this? I don't think I ever saw Barney in a braver
moment. Usually Andy brings everything together and gives Barney all the
credit to help him save face, or Barney catches someone almost by accident,
or thinking he's got him for a lesser offense like parking next to a fire
hydrant. I don't remember Barney ever doing something this brave on his own
and actually saving the day, at least before this one (1961-62
episode)...anyone else?

I just enjoyed last years Reunion pictures! (Thankyou Tenderjaw/TJ) One of
the pictures was of Jean Carson(Hello Doll) It got me thinking about the
episode where Floyd and Bernie were held hostage at the cabin by the 3
escapees. I just remembred they kept calling Barney "AL".."Youd better dance
with me AL or Ill give it to you with this HEATER." What is the name of the
other fun blonde who kept calling Don Knotts "Bernie" and "AL?"

Thank you ,
Bobby Fleet

<<That brings me to another point. How good would TAGS have been on the radio?>
>

I think it would have been perfect, with its pace and its character driven
humor...not to mention Andy's comedy having been honed on the standup circuit
and in comedy albums, and Don Knotts and Howard McNear having spent time
working in old radio shows too. Heck, it might have been even better on
radio!

We mentioned "The Great Gildersleeve" heavily influencing TAGS, but with the
writers at the time being old enough to remember old time radio quite well,
there were probably a few other shows that had an impact as well. I can't
help but think "Fibber McGee and Molly," "Vic 'n' Sade," "Lum 'n' Abner"
(especially...there was even a Gomer counterpart named Cedric!) and a
shortlived show called "Point Sublime" (which co-starred Mel Blanc and Cliff
Arquette), all had some sort of influence over our beloved Mayberry...

I finally got to watch the tape of Billy Crystal's baseball movie about Roger
Maris and Mickey Mantle, 61*.
I smiled when Mickey, Roger and another Yankee were watching tv from their
rented apartment in Queens, NY. And what do you think they were watching
(and smiling gleefully), TAGS. Roger and the other Yankee had wide,
pleasant grins watching the show.

OK, so I'm a few days too slow in posting here.

Anyhow, Just wanted to send a note that the local
paper (The Virginia Pilot) here in Norfolk, VA. ran a
a great article on our own deputy David Browning
earlier this week.

Anyhow, I'm not sure if David is a list member or not,
but I'd like to send the article to him, but I don't
have a home address. If somebody has one, I'd
appreciate it, if you could email me off line with it.

Thanks.

I was watching a Twilight Zone episode today and the little boy playing
marbles in it
is none other than Ronnie Howard. He has a small speaking part and reminds
you very much
of the way he was in the first Andy Griffith episode when Aunt Bee comes to
stay with them.
The episode was "Walking Distance" from Oct 30 1959.
I hadn't heard anyone ever bring up this particular tags connection before.

I remember seeing the actress in another famous film. She co-starred with
Steve Mcqueen in the original b&w film " The Blob". She was Steve's girl
friend and the big sister to the little boy who wants to fight the monster.
This is the only film I have seen her in but there has to be more. Maybe
another member has other things that she was in
